Is it just me, or are we living in some magnificent makeup times? It’s like every week, maybe even every day, there’s a new or returning look or trend to try. There are no borders, there are no limitations, it’s just like the more people play the better and more beautiful the world is. One of the areas we’ve noticed people getting creative with is their lips… so we thought we’d put down on paper our five favourite lip fads!
This look is new on our radar… and we’re in love. Presenting… the Oil Slick lip! Check out these two different ways of creating a look reminiscent of an oil slick on a black tar road, or perhaps more romantically, the colour of a tui’s wing when glinting in the sunlight. Whether wet or matte, the oil slick lip is a standout look that we hope sticks around for a while…

We can’t get enough of ombre lips – they’re capable subtle and soft, bright and blinged out, dark and dangerous. They’re also easily wearable, so you could apply a neutral ombre lip look, head to work and nobody would bat an eyelid.
My inner unicorn goes giddy up whenever it sees glitter lips. Usually the pinker, the glitterier the better. But there’s something moody, and mermaid-esque about this pair that makes the usual girly girl glitter lips stand out from the crowd in a sophisticated manner.

Bedazzled lips are like glitter lips’ glitzier, ritzier, sister. Perfect for a night out on the town when you really want to make a statement. Heck, wear them during the day and let the sun bounce off your lips and pierce people’s eyes with their fabulousness! What we love is that you can take this look as little or as far as you want.
Our final fad is very much in the now, and it’s been round long enough that you can’t really call it a trend – but we’re in love with matte lips, and it has to feature. How in love? Just try getting between Queenie and her Mellow Lip Paints. It would make for an entertaining tv show… When Royals Go Rabid. But you can hardly blame us for putting this look in our top five. It’s a look that can range from bold to beautiful to bewitching… but never, ever, boring.
