Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm

I wanted to love this one, as I've loved most Trilogy products I've tried, but this one is just a little too much effort for me.

In theory there's a lot to love about this creamy balm. It smells delicious and leaves my face feeling smooth, clean and not stripped too heavily after use.

On the downside though, I'm not a big fan of having a pot that I have to dig my fingers into to get the product out. It just doesn't feel very hygienic to me, even though I was my hands before use. I have long nails and getting a sticky balm stuck under them grosses me out.

I'm also a fan of very heavy eye black makeup. Using this to remove it is just too messy and a bit too much of a hassle for me. It takes a fair bit of work and lot of smearing black inky mess all around my eyes for a mediocre result. I'm also not a fan of the way it feels on my eyelashes. Now I use a separate micellar water to take my eye makeup off first, but it seems a bit silly to me to have to take my eye makeup off before I can use a makeup remover. I felt like I needed to really scrub to make this work and occasionally I'll follow with a separate cleanser to remove the residue.

I guess in summary I like the way this makes my skin feel after I have used it, but it's hard to motivate myself to go to this much effort right before bed. Once I use this up I'll probably return to my easy old routine of eye makeup remover/micellar water followed by a cream cleanser.

Lovely luxurious makeup remover

Balm cleansers aren't my go-to makeup removers, simply because they're not the tidiest way to take off your makeup. When I do want to really treat my skin and take care of it, though, I'll use a balm cleanser like this because it's rich and nourishing. The Trilogy cleansing balm doesn't strip the skin at all and it really feels like it's moisturising and conditioning the skin while taking off your makeup.

Only slight inconvenience - you need to use a cloth. So it's lucky this product comes with one! I appreciate that thought from Trilogy, although you'll need more than one cloth if you're removing makeup daily.

Tips: Wash your cloth after each use so you're not recontaminating your face.

A Must Have!

This product I can seriously not live with out. I use this religiously every night to remove my makeup. I have been looking into purchasing a good makeup remover for a while now as I was sick of using wipes that did not completely remove my makeup and I wanted to really stick to committing myself to remove my makeup properly every night before bed.

I picked this up in the last beauty vault as I have heard so many good things about the Trilogy brand. At first I didn't know what to expect as the product reminded me of beewax. I don't typically reach for products with this consistency. I gave it a go and it was really waxy to massage into my skin. It comes with a face wash cloth which I believe is made with bamboo. It is so soft and gentle on my skin and I found that this product completely removes my makeup no matter how thick it is.

Overall I find this product wonderful and 100% effective. A little bit of product defiantly goes a long way. I recommend this product to everyone, I believe it is worth trying out.

soothing make up removing balm

I love Trilogy products, using them on my skin always feels like a real treat. I have to admit I was a bit dubious about using a balm to remove my make up as I generally use balms on my lips and body and lean towards a soap cleanser or oil...however I found this product felt really lovely on my skin. The balm melts away make up as it is massaged in the skin and it has a lovely faint smell of coconut. I used make up wipes to remove the product wet with Micellar cleansing water.I found i needed to use a couple of cleanses before the wipes came away completely clean, however my skin glowed and I felt like I'd had a nourishing mask on afterwards rather than a squeaky clean. I would recommend this product if you fancy a bit of pampering and you have a bit of time on your hands.

Tips: Massage in and wait for your make up to melt away before rinsing thoroughly.

It's a miss for me

I will start out by saying I LOVE this type of product for makeup removing/cleansing. I adore the Clinque Take The Day Off Balm & The Body Shop Sumptuous Cleansing Butter so I wanted to love this product, I mean really really wanted to. Sadly it didn’t live up to the hype and I definitely dont love it.

Like many others I found a quarter teaspoon not quite enough product. I do like the consistency and application of the product. It feels lovely to gently massage around and dissolve makeup while cleansing.

I found it really doesn’t remove my eye makeup AT ALL though! In which case I find myself having to remove my eye makeup before using this item and this just means more effort.

I don’t have sensitive eyes but find my eyes feel blurry and watery after using this also. So those would sensitive eyes probably wouldn’t enjoy this product at all for eye makeup removing. I find the skin around my eyes gets really dry/flaky using this also – quite the opposite to what I thought would happen.

The packaging is simple and elegant, not a fan of the smell and although the cloth that comes with it is a nice touch, I threw it away after a week. It stains so badly and ends up just looking manky (even when it’s clean).

Overall this is just so-so for me. I would rather use one of the earlier mentioned products that does the whole job perfectly!

Gentle, effective, luxurious

I picked this up in the Christmas Beauty Vault and was very excited to try this as it is something out of my budget, and I was not disappointed

The balm comes packaged in an elegant white and red box, with a pretty red flower on it, with a cloth included. The cloth included is on the smaller side, and would be more ideal if it was larger. The cloth is very gentle, and works great with the product, allowing my makeup to gently be wiped off with no rubbing. The cloth however is cream, and it stains incredibly badly from the makeup. It'd be better if it was another colour. I thought adding the cloth though was a nice touch. The makeup balm comes in a classy heavy plastic tube with the typical elegant Trilogy packaging. This looks and feels like a luxury product, and I feel like I'm in luxury when using it.

The balm is solid, and melts into your fingers. It's a pale yellow colour with a lovely fruity scent. I found the directions easy to follow. It feels a bit unhygienic to me scooping the balm out with my fingers, it'd be nice if this included a scooper or something, but I get by.

I found using the directed 1/4 of a teaspoon managed to remove all my makeup from my face, even stubborn eye makeup. This seems quite long lasting, as I have been using this daily for over a month yet have barely scraped the top layer of the product, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. This makes my makeup gently melt off my way, and when I wipe with the cloth, it is all gone. I used to have a lot of difficulty removing makeup and would often lose eyelashes trying to remove heavy mascara, but now it is a breeze. I used to dread makeup removal but this balm has actually made me look forward to it. This was gentle on my skin and didn't cause any break outs.

I also love that this is New Zealand made, 100 % natural and not tested on animals. I have been trying to use more 'ethical' products so that's a bonus.

Overall, I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a new more effective way to remove make up as this changed my ways!

Tips: The stains on the removal cloth are easily removed by hand washing.

I really disliked this

Usually when I write reviews, I like to give products a really good use of at least a few weeks before reviewing. This though, I could only bare to use twice. I tried to tell myself to use it a couple more times at least but I was dreading it. This product really irritated my eyes for hours afterwards and even a little the next day. I don't think it was an allergic reaction, more having to use the product right around my eyes and it got in it.

This does come nicely packaged in a thick plastic jar. It's quite small for the price I feel though. It only has 80mls and retails for almost $40. This does come with a cloth but I've misplaced it somewhere so I'm not sure how great it works with the product.

This has a very thick consistency, it's solid but squishy as well. It reminds me of a coconut oil texture and I assume it goes harder in cold weather and may melt in really hot temps (it says to store under 30° temps). It has an interesting fragrance, really natural and herby, it's not perfumed at all. The scent isn't super strong but it's not faint either.

Now this says you only need 1/4 teaspoon and it will melt off any makeup. I found this was not enough product at all. You need at least double that to do anything. Also by melting, they really mean you need to work really hard to get eye makeup off. I had to rub quite vigorously to get my mascara off and I still had to go over it again with a new lot of balm. It works OK with face makeup but I did find I was still left with a bit of foundation still on my face.

I was happy to at least give this a go and it was what I was most excited about trying from the beauty review box. I'm actually using a trilogy night cream at the moment that I'm loving so this product hasn't put me off the brand at all.

I think if you only wear very light makeup and have dry skin, then you might like this. Might Anyway!

Makeup melts away

I received this in my last brbb. Quite hapoy with this being inside as its a pricey wee gem. However it took me some time to use it. A rose tinted plastic tub that has the illusion it's a glass tub with a screw top cap lid with he Trilogy branded label this is in cased with a little organic face cloth that has a slight lint feel to it in the softest possible way. The contents looks like a clear Vaseline formula. It's solid as a rock but it melts to the touch making it easier& appealing to use. The scent is subtle which I can't give a description to it. Upon use it melts down immediately from the warmth of your fingers and easily melts the makeup as you work it into your face. This wonderful balm is non abrasive invasive & non allergenic to my combo skin type & it moves the most stubborn makeup from lipsticks to mascara shadows &foundation;. It has a silk feel&wipes; of with the wash cloth all the makeup you see the makeup melt as you work the balm into your skin,it's quite something to witness. As it has a slimey feel to it you can start to doubt it almost immediately the makeup is lifting up or melting either either. My con though is that it's a procedure yah know rub it in then wash it off with a face cloth so I've kept me face cloths for my own use because my mascara has stained the cloths. Really nothing big to complain about because my skin gets a good effralarge while removing my makeup. For me there is no real con all pros& a little goes a long way 2 months day use has seen me use 1 third of product.

Tips: Do not throw the cloth in the drier as it shrinks terribly. Also throw some bossy make up brush cleanser on it to wash off the make up post use in your vanity then the stains aren't so stubborn I learnt later on.

Make-up Be Gone? hmmmm..

When the last beauty box was announced, I was hoping this product was in it. It had been released around the same time, and the feedback I had heard made me really excited to try this product. So when I opened the BRBB and found this in there, I was over the moon.

This cleanser comes in a brown tub (very similar packaging to the rest of the trilogy range, with a brown jar and a white and red label). This product also comes with a small face cloth, a nice touch but personally, this doesn't add any value to the product for me... and I also wish the face cloth wasn't a cream colour because it got dirty once, and never looked clean again.

The lid twists off the tub to reveal a solid product, which is a yellow colour, with an organic smell to it. It is a balm in all senses of the word, and it pretty easy to scoop out to use. However... I hate putting my fingers in products. I prefer pumps although this would clearly not work for this product but I would have preferred this product to come with a spoon or spatula instead of a face cloth because once my hands go in (even though they are clean), all I can imagine is the germs in the little tub, and it’s off putting.

This balm melts quickly upon touch, and is easy to smooth over face without the mess of it running down your arms (like oil cleansers can do). I find it is pretty effective at getting off foundation, but it does struggle with eye makeup, especially liquid eyeliner and mascara. After rubbing, rubbing and rubbing some more, it does remove most of it. But it takes a long time, and a lot of product... and when I use it on my eyes, it does seem to irritate them, so it’s just not worth the hassle for me personally.

Overall, this makeup cleanser is nice at removing foundation, but doesn't do a great job at removing long-wearing eye makeup, and can cause irritation for me. I also find I have to use quite a bit of product to get the job done, and find this product leaves a greasy feeling that is heavier than other cleaning balms I have used, so I won't be repurchasing this product again

Makeup Be Stayin' on my Face!

I, like many others, received this in the September BRBB and I was stoked - Everything I've tried of Trilogy's is awesome, so I was so pleased to see this in the box. It came with a gorgeously soft facial cloth as well, and I love it!

The product is in a 80ml jar which is surprisingly heavy for the product, but as a balm I suppose it's to be expected. The lid twists off and you're greeted with a lovely pale golden yellow color and the heavenly smell of roses hits you slowly, faster if you decide to have a good sniff.

The balm is exactly that, a balm. It's thick, but it melts easily at the touch and you can easily scoop some out. However that's what I don't like about this product, I prefer my cleansers with a pump as it seems slightly more hygienic.

This rubs in smoothly to the face and you don't notice it getting rid of your makeup until its gone! However. I don't think it does a very good job, as I feel like I have to use more than the recommended amount to get my mascara off. It doesn't melt my mascara like Bossy does, which was my favorite at the time. I used a maybe half a teaspoon, most of it on my eyes, and my mascara stayed firmly put.

This also hurt my eyes, but that was the only place it hurt so I must not have taken it all off. It was a lovely product but sadly it had a poor performance and I wouldn't buy it with my own money.
