Is 'Moisture' the Most Important Thing In Skin Care?

You know what I think you can never go wrong with, no matter your skin type?  A moisturising skin care regime.  Why?  A few reasons.

As I'm writing this I can confidently say.  Winter is here.  And no, I'm not living my alternative life in Westeros - I'm talking the real world.  New Zealand is in Winter. And whilst there is something to be said for those rosy (albeit cold) cheeks, winter generally means our skin is going to suffer. The bracing winter air causes our skin to be more dry than usual.

And in Summer?  Well you gotta keep that moisture locked in for fresh, glowing summer skin.  You don't want to look like you've spent forty days in the desert.

And here's the thing - even if you don't think your skin is particularly dry right now, nature is against you.  You see a common factor of ageing skin is in fact, dryness.  As we age our skin thins, collagen production lessons and we lose oil glands.  All of these factors contribute to increasingly dry skin.  Add to that the fact that dead skin cells do not shed as quickly and the turnover of new skin cells decreases slightly and you can see why including moisturising ingredients in your skin care routine becomes more and more important.

Well.  Do we have a power house trial opportunity coming up.  We're looking for some of our Expert Reviewers to put THREE products by the ever-fabulous Linden Leaves to the test.  Each member of this trial team will review the:

Miraculous Facial Oil

An antioxidant-rich treatment oil to help repair and regenerate skin cells. This natural oil is enhanced with natural ingredients such as rose hip to soften and treat the skin whilst reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. High in antioxidants, this hydrating facial oil provides an instant boost to skin and delivers a radiant glow.

Essential Facial Moisturiser

A light moisturising cream rich in carotenoids and allantoin to help treat blemishes and enhance the skin’s recovery cycle. This moisturiser aims to improve skin elasticity by maintaining moisture levels and balancing skin to restore a youthful appearance.

Regenerating Night Cream

A restorative night cream enriched with powerful natural ingredients to aid overnight skin repair and slow the visible signs of ageing. With the antioxidant properties of certified organic white tea and vitamin rich goji berry, this night cream leaves skin looking hydrated and glowing. Special ingredients such as echium, meadowfoam, mulberry and sweet almond oil work to deeply nourish and firm the skin in a gentle formulation.

So - tell us, is 'moisturising' the thing you look for most when choosing skin care products?  Are you noticing Winter playing havoc on your skin, or maybe even your skin getting more dry as you age?

Yes! An "older" perspective perhaps, but good rehydration products are something to cherish and I would love to trial this group. Night creams, in particular, can be disappointing as they are sometimes gluggy and just don't do their work.

My skin is sensitive & dry, so yes, moisturising is important. Linden Leaves as a brand ticks all of my boxes. No chemicals, sustainable, ethical & I love that the range came about because of a mum's love for her babies. I also love that it's a business based in Christchurch. So far only Trilogy products have been able to deliver on moisturising & no irritation but I'd be very open to trying a NZ product.

My skin would really benefit from something like this at the moment. I have recently had surgery on the side of my face and haven't found a product yet to put on it to help with the ling term healing of the scar. This sounds like it would be very beneficial

As I'm getting older I've found my skin looking duller. Even though I still get acne and a bit oily moisture is still important for that fresh looking glow. Would love to try these products!!

I'm only 19 so I don't need anything for anti-aging yet, however my skin is so dehydrated that I'm always looking for a great moisturiser. I have dry patches as well as oily skin so I need a good moisturiser to help keep my skin as normal as possible.

Yea if my skin doesn't actually drink all this up and still be dry i'll be surprised. I've def found using an oil cleanser lessens it but my skin loves it some dry patches everyday!

Definitely! You have to moisturize whatever your skin type is!

I look for several things. I always try and get a product with antioxidant and anything else to help with the fine lines and wrinkles. My skin is naturally dry so lots of moisturiser would be good for me. I like the natural ingredients in these products.

Moisturiser is very important in my skincare routine. My skin changed during pregnancy and after had baby recently. So nowon my skin is dry to combination. So facial oil and moisturiser are must in winter.

I need to try this so much! I have just been told by my GP that I can no longer use traditional moisturizers and I need to use more natural oils! I also need to repair my poor acne scarred skin. Winter is killing my skin and I really appreciate how much moisture improves it (it's crazy!).

I love moisturisers. I am all about moisturiser. My age is a consideration, working in air conditioning daily and all the rest of things in life that effect my skin. I always look for something that will hopefully last all day, until I can apply again at night. I use serums as well as moisturisers and night cream. As I have gotten older my skin has settled down from being very oily to almost normal. I am always keen to find a range that suits me at this point in my life.

My skin has definitely changed as I've got older. I mix up my skincare a lot so dryness isn't too much of an issue. But I certainly don't have to worry about being an oil slick by lunch time anymore. These products sound lovely and it would be great to trial different products within the same range.

I definitely need the moisture! I try to get a lot of this internally with drinking plenty of water (much harder in winter!) and eating foods rich in essential fatty acids but I definitely need the extra help from the outside. My eyes usually end up the driest and I find this hard to combat, as I don't want to use a rich cream on the delicate eye skin itself, or I'll end up with moisture bead spots or irritation on this sensitive area. That's why I like an oil. When I was younger I used to open up an evening primrose capsule and use the oil directly on my skin. It was great for eczema and really dry patches. So now I like to keep a couple of different types of oils, especially rose hip and chia seed as a little gently dabbed onto my eyelids and eye area really helps the dryness without being heavy or causing irritation. I have used the Linden Leaves range before and really like it, though some products I found the smell a little overpowering as they were quite "herbal/floral" scented. I use the oils for my dry hands too, a few drops rubbed into hands and cuticles/nail bed really helps keep hands and nails lovely and moist during the cold winter months when the weather and air conditioning/heaters dry our skin out.

I think this is something that is missing from my skin care. I am trying to find a moisturiser that I am confident using. My skin gets upset so easily that I get scared to introduce anything new...but those lines are sneaking in :(

Oh dear! I got too excited after seeing the oil that I didn't see you need to trial all three products so that counts me out! :D
