divine alternative to straight up rosehip

I got this wee bottle of gloriousness in last years Beautiful Christmas advent calendar, and it's still going strong (probably because I have other oils as well to be fair) - I know Mum adored it as well and has gotten through hers!

The Antipodes Avocado & Rosehip Divine Face Oil comes in the brand-typical brown glass packaging, with a green and cream label. It looks like what it is - natural, quality, and not cheap (although not super expensive, but it's up there). I have a 10ml bottle of this oil, which is dispensed through a 'dropper' housed in the screw cap.

This smells gorgeous. It's a little softer and nuttier than straight rosehip, with a lovely silky feel to the oil. my fave way to use this is on scars and scratches, where it softens skin and aids in healing. I'm pretty sure Mum used hers on her face - oil doesn't love my face though so I tend not to cover my face in it.

If you're looking for an alternative to straight rosehip oil from a quality Kiwi company then you'll love this!

Tips: you can get this smaller size bottle in a pack with a vanilla day cream in Farmers and Life Pharmacy (among others maybe?) right now for around $25 - that's a good buy!

Truly divine!

The smell!! First of all when I chose skincare/body care products I am a huge sucker for a gorgeous smell. This oil smells like jasmine which I think is beautiful and quite uplifting. It applies really nicely, it's not greasy even though its an oil but a little does go a long way so don't over do it or it will feel oily on your skin rather than just hydrating. Depending on how thirsty your skin in it soaks in fairly quickly (Not instantly but in a good space of time). The best part is waking up with soft, smooth and hydrated skin! I personally used this as part of my night time skin care routine and absolutely loved it. One of those items that will be permanently on my repurchase list.

Tips: A little goes a long way :)

Antipodes

A good NZ brand this bottle comes in a tincture form with a born bottle nicely labelled with a tincture dropper. The golden serum sits inside the bottle giving you a good impression of liquid goodness.

Upon opening there is a distinct scent only what I have smelt with this brand & it's serum, to me it's an organic scent that similar to wheatgerm oil if ever you've smelt wheat germ oil then that's what this smells like to me. It disperses as good as it could from the dropper, the serums colour is nice transparent but gold tinged liquid which goes onto the skin yellowish gold but eventually smooths out to be clear leaving a hydrated appearance with a sheen like a highlight to the skin it takes its time to settle into the skin.

I want to say how great this product however this item didn't work well for me & I was sad to have discovered during my use that it was a no go for me. Firstly the distinct scent I was not a fan of then secondly my skin didn't absorb this product up instead it sat on my skins surface slick & oily & third & final thing was it broke me out. Not oce but every time after use I would awake in the am with a new breakout. Either this item had an ingredirect that my skin 1 needed or 2 reacted to because eof it's richness. Sorry Antipodes I want to love you but I can't. My skin type is combo to oily I'm also 39 years old which I should sit under the aure skin category however I have slight signs of aging but nothing too bad as said to me by a dermatologist & beautician phewww. Just for indication as to why my review is how it is.

Antipodes Avocado & Rosehip Divine Face Oil

I really wanted this to work. I loved the sound of this brand and heard many wonderful things about it. I purchased the mini day and night packs and used it for a month. I applied three drops of the oil ( very convenient packaging - dropper ) religiously. My skin felt soft and supple but very oily. So much so that I have had to stop using it for a few days for the breakouts to stop. I will certainly be using this sparingly , like a once a week treatment and not as a daily routine.

Antipodes

I have tried rosehip oil before but never an avocado oil before. I found this oil a lot thicker than my usual rosehip oils and and an unusual green colour. The oil does take a lot longer to absorb into the skin but it does leave the skin feeling very refreshed and smooth and has quite a neutral smell to it.

Tips: This oil would be best suited for night time as it is quite thick and does take a long time to absorb into the skin.

Great treatment

I received a 10ml sample bottle in the 2015 Beautiful Christmas Advent Calendar. I like to use this as a night treatment once or twice a week because I already have a facial oil that I use every night.

I put 6 drops into the palm of my hand, rub them together to warm up the product and massage it all over my face in circular motions. There’s some residue left behind because I do use more than necessary so my face can soak it up overnight (note: my face isn’t dripping in it nor does it stain my pillows).

The consistency is lighter than the Living Nature Radiance Night Oil but heavier than Kiehl’s Midnight Concentrate. It has a similar fragrance to the Living Nature oil where it’s quite natural but not as potent. Despite using it for months I can’t say that it’s worked wonders for me because I use Kiehl’s most nights however I love the way it leaves my skin feeling smooth and supple after the treatment.

I plan on repurchasing this gem but purely to use once or twice a week as I feel that for someone with oily skin like myself, I need to stick to lighter facial oils when wearing it to bed every night.

Antipodes Divine Face Oil

I tried this oil as part of a mini pack for $20, so thought it would be a good way to give it a go. I'd been skeptical about oils, thinking (wrongly) that they would make my skin oily. I applied this oil initially at night time and applied night cream over the top. I was super wowed by just how much the oil impacted the absorption of the night cream. It was like my skin drank it up. I can honestly say that I noticed differences within a couple of days, especially around the dry areas around my eyes. I've repurchased the mini pack twice now and now am finishing off the full sized one. It's a game changer!

Tips: Apply the oil onto slightly damp skin and then massage it in. It's a rich oil so feels so decadent to apply. Then leave it for a minute before applying either a day or night cream over the top. Enjoy!

Not Divine

I've used oils on my body before but never really my face, so when I got a minature of this free I was quite excited to try it.

Turns out, I don't like oil on my face much. On my body the oil seems to absorb in well and I feel like my skin is nourished and moisturised. But on my face it doesn't seem to absorp in that well. So I did try the Antipodes Avocado & Rosehip Divine Face Oil on my hands and on my legs just to confirm that it was my skin not the oil. And overall it did absorb into my hands in particular way better than it did on my face, but I still found it didn't absorb as well as some other oils I've tried.

In terms of the oil itself. It is a greenish oil in a dark bottle with a dropper. It smells like a blend of rosehip and avocado oil unsurprisingly and you only need a tiny bit to go a long way.

In terms of its claim that "superior collagen-boosting action of avocado oil helps reduce the appearance of lines, age spots and scars." I've tried it on the lines I'm starting to get on my face and the scars on my legs everyday but have yet to see any signs of improvement.

Gorgeous as a night oil

I had the 10ml bottle of this, which must have lasted me about 3 months-ish. I always love the Antipodes packaging, its so gorgeous and screams nature. I have been into rosehip oils for a wee while, so I was excited to try the rosehip & avocado oil, best of both worlds! It feels lovely and silky and a small amount goes a loooong way - about 4 drops would do my face, neck and decolletage.

It is a little bit too oily for me to wear in the morning, it just doesn't absorb quickly enough for me to wear it under makeup as I'm getting ready for the day. But it is a-ma-zing when I apply it at night. It's no big deal if I go to bed with a shiny face, and by the time I wake up my skin feels gorgeously soft and nourished.

I have also used this at night underneath a nourishing mask - works wonders to just infuse even more goodness into the skin!

A bit on the oily side for me

I love using facial oils. I find them so good for my skin just to boost any effects of my moisturiser. I haven't had particularly good luck with face products from Antipodes in the past as they are often too rich for my skin and cause me to break out but I still thought I would give this one a go.

I have this in the 10ml small tester size. It is in a dark glass bottle with a black stopper. I suppose the dark bottle is so that light doesn't get in to damage the natural products inside. I think Antipodes really had the packaging of their products well organised and I always think they look very classy and nice.

The first thing that struck me when using this product is how green it is! Initially I wasn't a fan but to be honest as you smooth this on your skin you can't tell it has any colour to it at all. It is an oil in consistency and is see through. It has a natural smell to it but I can't really distinguish anything in particular. I find as I rub this in it feels somewhat dry rather than particularly slippery or greasy on the skin. I like this as I don't want to feel like I'm rubbing cooking oil on my face. On me this sinks in really fast, but seems to leave a tacky feeling which is still there in the morning. I have been using this at night and don't think it would be particularly good for morning application as it doesn't leave a good canvas for anything else to sit nicely on top. This makes my skin look lovely and plump and moisturised. I don't think this has done anything fantastic to my skin long term but it definitely ticks all the boxes for moisturisation. Plus it didn't break me out at all which has to be great.

I still have a lot of serums and oils to be used up at this point but this one certainly is great so if you can get your hands on it I would definitely recommend it.
