What a choice!

I love palette selections like these you've got so many colours to blend and play with and i think they are such great value for money so i was delighted to be able to review this palette. Its a good sturdy size but not too big to fit in your makeup bag. I find each colour is a nice powdery consistency and like most eyeshadows the more you add on the deeper the colour. I don't like the small brush/applicator that comes with but I'm never a fan of those so i use my own eyeshadow brush. So much fun had with playing and blending colours and i find the staying power quite good and it comes off well with micellar water. This is a goody and most likely a staple in my life.

Tips: Your own eyeshadow brush is most likely a better option.

Maybelline The Burgundy Bar

This is a really pretty palette, with some stunning shades and super versatile colour palette! The range of colours is really nice and means you're able to create a range of looks with this one palette, however I found that there was a bit of a performance difference between shades - the metallics are *stunning* and perform really well, whereas the matte shades are a little dry and patchy, and not as smooth and creamy as I might like them to be (and as the metallic shades are!). Overall a really nice palette, that I would absolutely purchase and recommend to a friend!

Tips: Try using a cream eyeshadow base or eye primer with the matte shades to deal to some of the dryness/patcheyness!

Raises the Drugstore Bar

The Maybelline Burgundy Bar as per its name, is an eyeshadow palette with 12 shadows in tones ranging from burgundy, a delicious plum, earthy browns through to golds. Two shades are matte, the rest are metallic. The shades all look very intense inside the palette, but when applied to the eyelids are much lighter, therefore require building up to get full impact. However, they work well if you prefer a softer more subtle look. I used the neutral matte as a base colour and the brown/burgundy matte to darken the crease. The metallics work well to highlight and lighten the eye area. The shadows are smooth to apply, even using the stock standard palette brush and there is little fallout. The palette could be perceived as limiting due to only two matte shades, but in fact, I think it is a good palette that would suit all eye colours and skin tones, and works well for both daytime or evening looks. The palette is a nice compact size which is perfect for carrying in a makeup purse, or when travelling. My only real complaint, which is superficial, is that it’s not a pretty case, and while I can see why Maybelline chose the burgundy colour for the case, I think it cheapens the look of the palette and doesn’t enhance the pretty shades within. Overall all though, I would consider this palette value for money!

Tips: A very good palette for a ‘drugstore’ brand. Build up the shadows if you prefer a more intense look.

Great shades, terrible packaging.

Having previously used the Maybelline nudes palette I was keen to trial this out. Sadly there have been no improvements in packaging which let's this product down. It's plastic, flimsy and cheap looking. The best thing about the packaging is the see thru window which showcases the beautiful shades, of which there are twelve in total. Two are matte and the rest are shimmery. It has a good range of shades but are of the warmer variety so I think I would be more inclined to reach for this palette in Autumn/Winter.

There are some easy to understand instructions on the back which I didn't follow because I like to do my own thing but would be great for make up novices. It comes with the traditional sponge end brush and another end which is completely useless. It's fairly average, nothing compares to urban decay naked palette brushes but it is usable if you don't have another brush.

For me the real winner is how beautiful and buttery the shades are, they are very blendable and compliment each other nicely. There was minimal product fallout but I believe the key to this was wiping off excess product and using a descent eyelid primer beforehand.

Great palette, let down slightly by the packaging but for the price I could look past this.

Tips: Look past the packaging for a great palette.

Maybelline The Burgundy Bar

The eye shadows has 10 shimmery shadows and as well as two matte shades which help to make the palette very versatile. I found that I could do a whole eye look with just this palette alone. The palette is actually much more neutral-toned than I expected and there is a good guide on the back of the palette which breaks down the shadows into quads, trios and duos to create a number of different looks.

The formula of the shadows in this palette are soft and buttery and blend really easily. They swatched really well on the back of my hand and they had really good pigmentation, with the matte dark brown being an exception as it was a little chalky. I found that the colours lost some intensity once I applied it onto the eyelids using a eyeshadow brush and the shimmery metallic sheen was not as apparent. However, the colour payout and metallic sheen improved when I tried using my finger to pat on the eyeshadow.

There was also a little fall out during application and the shadows did fade by the end of the day regardless of whether I used primer or not. Regardless, I feel that the colours in this palette are really beautiful and the pigmentation and application was good.

The palette did also comes with a double-ended eyeshadow brush, which was the only thing I didn't like. The bristles of the brush end were frayed and the other end was a sponge applicator tip which wasn't very useful.

Tips: Spray your brush with MAC’s Fix Plus before you pick up some eyeshadow, this helped to solve the fall out issue, and helped with colour payout when applying the shadows on the eyelids using a brush.

So pigmented!

Lovely palette, would recommend to new makeup users! Very user friendly as it is easy to blend. I would use this in conjunction with other palettes and this palette is very glitter heavy.

Tips: A little goes a long way!

Not burgundy, but not bad!

I've used the Nudes and Blushed Nudes palettes from Maybelline before, and liked them, so was pleased to get this to trial.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of negatives, which I'll present first up:

- palette arrived broken. Two of the 12 shadow blocks had entirely escaped their pans, and one was snapped in half. Given that the package was bubble wrapped, this points towards a manufacturing flaw with the palette itself as one probable reason. - title is misleading. Of the 12 shades, ONE is any form of colour that could be called burgundy. It's more a copper/gold/brown shimmer palette with a couple of statement shades in burgundy, brick red and darker brown.

All that said, the colours are gorgeous. They have a good amount of pigment without being too much, and the shimmer is great - again, just enough for a shimmer effect without looking like a disco ball. There's a time and place for disco ball eyes, but not 'every day in a professional workplace', so this palette is a great every day one.

The pans are big but very shallow, which may have been a reason for them to not hold the shadows in transit. There are some really similar shades in the 12; personally I feel this could be kept to 6-8 shades without compromising anything.

I've been using 3-4 shades per day, and using darker ones as liner, accent and crease, with softer shades on the lid and the shimmerier ones on a damp brush as a pop of xmas sparkle. Every day I have tried a different combo but they've all come out looking similar. The shadows blend out well and wear beautifully - I do always add an 'insurance layer' of setting spray, but at the end of the day they are still intact and looking good.

The packaging is terrible imo - cheap looking, and the burgundy coloured plastic just highlights the lack of burgundy shades. The accompanying brush is the usual waste of time as a freebie - a sponge applicator that picks up too much product but is hard to use for application, and a brush that's too soft and lacking in shape or purpose.

All that said, I wondered when I received this palette if I'd use it much after trial, and can safely say that it's so easy to use to get a really nice look for a work, shopping etc day that I'll keep using it - with my own brushes - but that I can't take it away for fear that it will break.

Tips: Don't bother with the included brush, use your own.

I tried it, scowled at it and chucked it aside lol. Yeah was sad about the palette. Either a poor design or a courier fail...

Totally agree about the brush, I didn’t even try using it! I’m sorry your palette arrived broken! :(

Lovely colours

The first thing I’ll say about this palette is that it’s so so so pretty! The colours are so nice and actually quite pigmented. So wearable for everyday but then also there are pop of colours that you can use for a night out or event. The shimmery shades are gorgeous but there is a little bit of fallout. Most of the colours are super blendable and don’t go on patchy. Overall I would definitely recommend, the palette is quite small so you can use it as a travel one and it wouldn’t take up much room

Pretty palette

I keep it pretty simple with eye makeup generally, so was really excited to receive this Burgundy Bar palette to review.

All the shades are beautiful warm shades - all with a little shimmer. They apply nicely. Not too dark, and not to light, and daytime wear they tend to not wear off too much. They blend really nicely together. The brush - is a dual brush with the sponge on one end, and a brush on the other. Neither were particularly good for applying the eyeshadows for me - and I tended to use my own brushes. The included brushes is handy if it's a palette you're going to keep in the handbag though

On the back of the palette are suggestions for application, using 2, 3 or 4 of the colours. For me, with little experience in elaborate eyeshadow looks, these guides were really helpful. I tended to use the duo suggestions for the daytime, and the trio and quad suggestions for a night out etc. That said - I'm wearing a quad combo today, and with the Colossal mascara to finish the look I'm feeling really glam.

My only negative on this palette is that the eyeshadows themselves are very dry and there was some fall when applying the eyeshadows, but it was relatively minimal. Mostly noticeable when using the darker colours of course. Because the eye shadows are quite powdery, the neat-freak in me found the messiness that the palette gets to a little distracting. One eye-shadow was broken on delivery, so I wonder if it isn't a great travel palette if the powders are a little more fragile - but I may have just been unlucky there.

It's a great palette for those that love nude colours but want the option to glam their look up a little.

Tips: The guides on the back are fabulous if you're wanting to try a few different looks, but don't know where to start!

Burgundy

Thank you BR for allowing me to review this product.

I really like this maybelline burgundy palette so much! It's perfect for every day and night time wear. The eye shadows are quite pigmented and blend nicely. The brush that comes with the palette is pretty average, i just ended up using my own brushes as that's what i prefer. Id say the only down side to this palette is that it needs more matte shades. This is so affordable. Overall id buy this for a gift and for my self if i needed to again!

Tips: Use your own eye shadow brush
