No3 Underbalm Review
1 members found this review useful
Raise your arms for underbalm!

I perspire a lot, even in Winter - which frustrates me massively. I have tried the clinical protection ranges and everything, nothing is the holy grail for me. So while purchasing this through the beauty vault (thanks BR!) I didnt have super high expectations but I had been wanting to try a natural deodorant for ages.

It comes in a glass jar with very cute packaging, most people wouldn't associate it with a deodorant, which I like. The fragrance is THE BEST. Im a lover for all things lemongrass and with the added notes of lime it was a winning scent for me.

The product itself is very firm in the jar so I have been using my finger in circular motions I warm it up before apply to my underarms where it melts more. Weirdly enough I find applying this to my underarms quite nice. I've since watched the video and see using an ice block stick to loosen it up first can help the application process. I could see people with long fingernails having an issue using this product. I don't mind if any gets caught up under mine as I knowing its a natural product doesn't cause me concerns. Im not sure how men would feel applying this to hairy armpits as I feel it could be a little messy as it wouldn't be melting directly on the skin as it has the hair to get through. Wonder if I can convince husband to try it...

If I've shaved prior to applying or using this for a long period of time I do get a little rashy but nothing intense. I presume its the sodium bicarbonate in the product. I've since seen they they make a 'low carb' option for those with sensitive skin - awesome!

This product keeps me smelling fresh, even when I change in the evening I can still smell the fresh scent. It doesn't stop wetness but given my sweaty nature it still does a pretty impressive job.

Like a few others I would love to see this deodorant paste put into a stick form, just to make applying it more convenient, especially for travel.

For a natural NZ made product it isn't over priced (now $18.99) considering you get approx. 100 applications per jar!

This is the second product I've tried of No3s and I've been super impressed with both. Will happily re-purchase Underbalm again.

Tips: Watch the short video on their website to help with application, and to also check out No3's other products.

Incredible - replaced Trilogy Rosehip

Before this product, I had been using Trilogy's Rosehip oil and had gone through 3 of them.

My skin is combo/oily, and is prone to breakouts. It is quite scarred so I was hoping that rosehip would help with the pigmentation.

However, I felt that rosehip was a bit pricey, so when I saw this on special at Countdown decided to pick it up.

I like the packaging. I enjoy the pipette applicator which allows me to dispense the exact number of drops. I like the scent much more than rosehip.

I've found it to be moisturising enough for me, but not heavy or greasy - which rosehip actually tended to be on my skin. It made my skin feel hydrated and fresh. I would use 4 drops at night and 2 drops during the day. It absorbed much easier than rosehip and feels super lightweight.

It didn't break me out at all, in fact, because it was so moisturising and hydrating, it actually seemed to improve my skin's pigmentation.

So if you have skin like mine, then I think this would be a good product for you. It might not work so well for super dry skin.

NYX Professional Makeup Butter Glosses Review

Buttery and Beautiful!

These Nyx butter glosses have been on my wishlist for a while and after looking at swatches online I decided to try cream brulee and Tiramisu. Cream brulee is a beautiful nude shade with a hint of pink while Tiramisu is also a nude shade with a hint of brown in it. I love how they are named after desserts but also smell like them too.

Each butter gloss is 8mls in size and comes in a rather funky coloured plastic tube which matches their shade. The applicator tip is made of sponge which I find great for applying the gloss. The formula is surprisingly non-sticky and very buttery. They really melt onto your lips and I find them super moistursing.

They can look quite sheer on but are easy to layer up to give a medium coverage. I find them so versatile and are prefect for everyday wear. I sometime wear them over a lipstick to give my lips extra shine.

I am prone to really dry, cracked lips and I love how they keep my lips well hydrated with a bit of colour and shine. I typically need to reapply every few hours as they do wear off quickly with food and drink.

I really can’t believe it took me this long to discover these amazing lip glosses, such great value with a huge range of shades.

Phoenix Custom Blend Foundation Review
0 members found this review useful
Customised to fit your skin.

I had my make up done at a Phoenix cosmetic store for a wedding when I learnt of the customised foundation. I was surprised how well the shade matched my skin (very fair skinned gal).

The foundation comes in a frosted glass jar with a black lid, unfortunately no pump dispenser makes this product a bit messy to apply and not overly hygienic. Your shade is matched and made on the spot and you have the choice of either a matte or dewy finish depending on your personal preference. I brought this in matte.

The foundation itself dries very quickly so you need to be fast at blending it into your face; I have used several methods and found a foundation brush works the best with this foundation.

It provides a medium coverage and covers most of my imperfections to give a flawless finish however after continual wear I discovered this was far too drying on my skin so I discontinued use. I recommend trying in store first to see if it’s right for your skin type.

Tips: Look out for their online specials.

Pure Fiji Coconut Sugar Scrub Review
5 members found this review useful
Coconut Sugar Rub

I haven't used many body exfoliants let alone a sugar scrub but I was very excited when my sister bought me the 457ml tub from Fiji. I use this 2-3 times a week because I love how it leaves my body moisturised and smooth ready for the actual moisturiser which you could get away with not doing!

It comes in a huge plastic tub with the signature Pure Fiji gold and floral packaging. For such simple packaging it's quite a luxury product with a price tag to match. My sister paid $FJD39.95 which at the time was $NZD30.00 so it's definitely pricey here in NZ for a whopping $NZD66.50. At the back of the tub it says you can get 15-18 treatments and I'm positive I can get more than that - you really don't need to use much.

When you open the tub you're greeted with a smooth whiff of authentic coconut oil mixed with sugary goodness. There are times where I feel like I've just finished some baking (lets just say edible baking) because of the sugar scent that comes through. The scent doesn't just linger in the tub; it also lingers on the skin.

When I received the scrub back in May it had hardened thanks to good old Auckland weather so you either break up the sugar by digging at it with a spoon or alternatively just close the lid and let the tub sit in a bowl of hot water and watch the scrub soften and turn a beautiful golden brown.

Once it's softened use the scoop it comes with (you may have to dig a little to find it but it's there) to pick up the product. Now, this can be an abrasive scrub so don't give up too easily; once you use it a couple of times you'll know what will work for you.

I apply the scrub all over my body bit by bit and the fantastic thing about this is that it has really good coverage. I can exfoliate an entire arm with just 3 pinches of the scrub. I stand back from the shower when scrubbing myself down until the sugar is fully dissolved because I don't want grains of sugar going down the drain.

You'll start to notice the water just gliding off of your skin due to the moisturising properties of the oil. It's similar to a moisturising shower creme or even Lush' Buffy bar but better and safer because you're not left with a slippery or messy shower. I don't need to moisturise after using the scrub because I've found that my body stays soft, moisturised with a gentle "oiled" fragrance right through to the next night. How amazing is that?

I would highly recommend this scrub to anyone interested in having an affordable (once you realise how many "treatments" you can get out of it) spa treatment at home. I know that Verdo Nails (Parnell, Auckland) stock Pure Fiji products and use them in their manicures (including the sugar rub) so if you don't want to commit to the price of a full tub maybe you'll treat yourself to a manicure where you can experience it while beautifying your nails.

Tips: To soften the scrub, heat up the tub in a bowl of hot water.

Apply scrub bit by bit and massage/rub into your body until sugar is dissolved. Carry on with showering and rinse off last. No need to moisturise but love moisturising with MOR Snow Gardenia or Pure Fiji Coconut Hydrating Lotion.

Illuminating both Day and Night

When I was accepted into this trial I was so excited to give this a try as my night cream had come to an ending. My skin type is dry especially during this winter period . Over a course of two weeks I got to give this cream a try. I solely used this for both day and night use in connection with a cleanser toner and day and night serums.

When this cream arrived to me it came in a beautiful shiny gold box. Inside this is a double glazed frosted jar with an inner jar holding this cream. This lid looks just like a diamond which is glitzy and glamorous . A show stopper amongst my other plan jane skin care products. When I unscrew this lid I find this thick decadent off yellow beige cream. It smells like fresh florals and musks pulling together a one of kind fragrance.

After preparing my skin with cleansers and toners I find this cream applies like a breeze. Takes several minutes to absorb. Works well with serums. Be mindful about the type of cleanser you use as this does have an impact of the absorbtion timeframe and setting result. I found natural cleansers work well with it rather than mainstream based cleansers.

When I was driving I noticed the sunlight on my face and I was illuminating with specks of gold. I looked glowy. It was just like a highlighter. I was absolutely shocked. Maybe this was the 24 Karat gold in it. As a day cream my skin felt hydrated soft and glowy. As a night cream by morning my skin is rejuvenated and clear. It looked amazingly good. I did have a breakout when I switched cleansers but my skin has been restored with some help from my masks and serums.

What really caught me about this cream is it's multi purpose use for both day and night. This cream definitely does work for both day . From the packaging through to the consistency of this cream it is pure elegance and luxurious. If I could repurchase this I would. My skin is amazingly restored in a good condition during the harshest time of year for my skin. It was a delightful experience to give this a go. Thank you BR.

Glow baby!

For the longest time this was always sold out on the New Zealand websites, I couldn't find this for months until NYX cosmetics opened their range in one of the Farmers stores. I was beyond excited to check out the new display and this was the item at the top of my list, I needed to get my hands on this! The tube was smaller than I expected but it really does pack a punch! I walked out with Gleam, which is a pinky highlight and I couldn't wait to use this.

I have had this highlight for under a year and there is still half a tube left. You need only the smallest amount and the uses of this highlight are nearly endless!

One way to use this is to mix a small amount with your liquid foundation, it gives a beautiful glow to your skin. Another way is to dab a tiny amount on your cheeks, cupids bow and down the middle of your nose, If Im wanting the ultimate glow factor then I add a light dusting of powdered highlight on top. But be warned, you only add the extra if you want to be seen by space!

My favorite way to use this is to firstly apply my BB cream all over my face. Once thats done I squeeze a small amount of liquid highlight to the back of my hand and with a sponge I lightly dab this over my cheeks and on my colar bones, It adds a glow without being too over the top.

I will be repurchasing this again, for the price it is very cheap and you can use this in many ways. It is worth every penny!

L’Oréal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation Review
2 members found this review useful
Magique Magic

My first impression on seeing the packaging was ’oh how cute’. It is a small plastic pink compact with a shiny lid. Youthful and chic. The top pops up and the cushion is inside sitting in a plastic lid. Open that lid, and the product is underneath. It has a neat little mirror inside the lid.

The product is like a damp sponge, so you dab the cushion on it to pick up the product, then dab the cushion on your face to apply the product. I have to say, it’s very simple and effective. It kind of blobs onto the skin, and didn’t spread all that well with the cushion initially, that took a bit of practice, but I have it under control after a few times of using it. It doesn’t apply very thickly, so you need to apply more than one layer to build it up, if you don't want it too sheer.

It blends easily and dries quickly and leaves an even dewy tone. I really like that it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin like some foundations do. It’s quite similar to tinted moisturiser or BB cream in that respect.

I chose vanilla, as I usually don’t use any foundations with a pink undertone and thought it might look fresh on my pale skin. It’s very light on my skin but with a small hint of pink. I had some friends’ critique it, and they noted it was a bit sheer, but thought the pink undertone was just right.

It lasts well on my skin, but I do need to use mineral powder over the top to give it a little more colour. I wore it 5 days in a row, which is epic for me, I usually only wear foundation to work when I have something special on.

It washes off easily and doesn’t stain the washcloth, which surprised me. One of the things I really don’t like about foundations usually, is that they come off all over whatever you wash them off with. Gross.

Overall it has a lot of great things going for it, for me, especially that it is light to wear, not gluggy or clogging on my skin and easy to wash off, and I will certainly continue to use it.

The only negative I can think of, would be washing the cushion!

I would recommend it to others unless they had quite uneven or heavily blemished skin, and in that case it may not have enough cover.

Update: loving it more every time I use it.

Tips: Tip: Apply to freshly washed and moisturised skin, and be sure to close the compact properly after use to stop it from drying out.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Review
1 members found this review useful
Excellent eye makeup remover

I was sent this to trial. I've been wanting to try micellar water, but I already had an eye makeup remover so was trying to use that up first.

Well, let me say I might not even bother with my other one. This product is amazing.

First off, it just looks like normal water. If you shake the bottle though, it will foam up (that's the micelle component). It has no smell and it's not sticky. For sensitive skin like mine, this is a good thing. I didn't react at all.

Initially, I used this to remove makeup and cleanse my face. This product is absolutely fantastic at removing eye makeup. You just wet your cotton pad with the water, hold it over your eye for a few seconds, and wipe. Everything came off after a couple of wipes. In terms of cleaning my face, it does, but I use a total of four cotton pads to do so.

As I don't have an unlimited supply of cotton pads, I instead use this to remove eye makeup, then as a toner after cleansing to remove any last traces.

I've also used this as a quick cleanse on days where I've worn no makeup, but the baby has been screaming. The pad is dirty. It just drives home the fact that your skin does accumulate dirt and pollution throughout the day.

On the whole, I would use this again. I'm really impressed that it is one of those rare products that completely works.

Tips: Don't swipe, glide the pad over your face. This slower action allows the micelles more time to work and cleanse better.

NIVEA Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Replenishing Pearls Review
3 members found this review useful
Well isn't this just a diamond in the rough!

As a user of high end skincare (and we're talking an anti ageing moisturiser that costs over $150 per pop) I was somewhat sceptical about the claims for this. Could it live up to it's higher priced counterpart? I was eager to find out!

This product comes in a pump bottle which I like as you're not sticking your fingers in the jar. What initially looks like a label with graphics of wee yellow pearls, actually turns out to be the product itself. You pump out your product and you can actually squish the little balls in your hand. I've been using this product for 2 weeks now and I can honestly say that it gives my higher end product a run for it's money (and more). It absorbs quickly and I can definitely see a noticeable decrease in the wrinkles around my eyes and I can honestly say...my skin has never looked better!

The only downside for me is the fragrance, i'm not sure what it smells of but it's not my cup of tea at all. Nivea has such an iconic fragrance associated with it's original cream and its body lotions that i'm intrigued as to why they feel they need to move away from this into something else in the face care products..but hey..I can live with it for the results it delivers.

So the answer to the question of will I be trading in my $150 moisturiser for this? Hell yes!

Tips: If you're on the wrong side of 35 toss out whatever moisturiser your'e currently using and grab a box of Q10 Pearls..like NOW! You won't regret it.
