I don't get it...

With the latest craze being strobing I thought I would bring out my MAC Strobe cream. I picked this up on my latest MAC order (which was about 6 months ago) as I love that there are a few MAC products that come in travel size so you can test it before purchasing a full size. I also think with a highlighting product like this you don't need to use much so it should last for ages even in the 30ml size. With most of my MAC products I order directly from MAC in the US and get shipped to me through YouShop.

The packaging is quite nice, as you would expect for the price. It is a pearlescent white squeezy tube with the black writing on it. The lid is black at the bottom and secures quite tightly.

I've tried writing this review for a very long time but I still can't really come up with an opinion. You'd think that that would mean I was on the fence about whether it was particularly good or bad. But the real problem is I just can't see what this product does. I can't really tell the difference between using this or not once I have my foundation on. Even before I put my foundation on I was looking at my skin thinking... it looks the same as usual! The claims for this product are similar to that of Clarins Flash Balm and at least that makes my skin feel nice and is a great base for makeup, this just does nothing (on me at least). It doesn't moisturise well, or leave my skin glowing, nor prime.

Obviously I won't be repurchasing this. I can't tell what it does so I certainly won't pay money for that!

Interesting because this has so much hype behind it. I definitely am not going to buy it.

Strobe Cream

Quite a thick formula which can feel a bit yuck on your face. Sparkly and smooth which provides a perfect base to keep foundation on for a long time.

Tips: Need quite a bit in order to smooth it all over your face for full coverage

Not an essential

I recently purchased a travel sized strobe cream and am fairly happy with it. I think it does give my face a very subtle glow but possibly not much difference in appearance from just using a moisturiser. I don't think I will be rushing out to replace this once I have finished the product.

Tips: Purchase the travel size first to try it out before spending too much $ on this product.

Strobe Cream

I finally purchased this at duty free since I hesitated on splurging on this cult product. I'm glad I did though because I really like it.

It did take me a while to learn how to apply and use this on my face but after a few trials, I have found a way that works well. I apply this after my primer and under a cc cream and foundation. I find that it really gives me a nice glow without looking like a disco ball. It really brightens the face and gives me a dewy look.

The formula is quite think though and I only use a tiny bit. I don't like the packaging/bottle though. It's hard to squeeze the product out at times.

Overall, I think this is a great product. I'm not sure if I'll spend the $$ on it when I run out of my current one though. Maybe at a discounted price again but not for the NZ price at counter. It is pricey.

Fresh glow

After hearing how great this product is, I finally splurged out and bought it. I am not disappointed! It makes my skin look fresh and glowy :) I use it after my primer and before my foundation or I mix a little bit into my foundation for an extra glow. If I want my highlighter to really stand out I put some strobe cream on where I put my highlighter. I think it's a great product for summer as it makes my makeup dewy. Sometimes when I'm not wearing makeup but don't want to look like I am totally sick I put a bit on just to look a bit fresher. The bottle it comes in isn't so great. It's not squeezy so I'm not sure how hard it's going to be to get it out once it is coming to an end. It doesn't stand out like wow but o can't complain about the product inside. I will probably re purchase this once it ends

What is with this cream??

I brought this thinking it would be fabulous to wear underneath my foundation, thinking it might brighten my dull skin from underneath..

I brought the 50ml bottle and at $70 I was hoping I was going to love it, but for the life of me I cannot work this cream out.

The White plastic bottle has a black screw top lid but the silly part is it can't sit on its lid because it's dome shaped so it has to sit inside something else so the cream runs to the bottom, then the plastic is quite hard making it hard to squeeze the cream out and when you do you get way too much. Yep the packaging is a huge let down

The actual cream looks white but as you spread it over your skin it has a pink sheen. I have dry skin so this does absorb into my skin pretty quickly it doesn't leave much residue and once it's fully applied I can't really notice too much difference to my skin. In certain light I can see very small shimmer specks. I apply foundation and notice absolutely zero difference to my skin. I gave up on this until I did some reading about mixing it in with your foundation. Having dry skin I like dewy foundations so adding this just left my foundation looking like I had sat in a sauna all day. It looked like it had melted and was very streaky.

I also had a quick play adding it like a highlighter but you have to be very light handed and precise 2 things I am not!

Overall I would almost say I hate this cream yes I know hate is a strong word, but I can't see what the hype is and I really don't understand the product, let alone the price tag it comes with, would greatly appreciate any tips.

How do you use this?!

I'm kind of confused about how you're supposed to use this product!

It's too lightweight to be a moisturizer and doesn't have any SPF but it's quite moisturizing for a primer and make me a bit greasy?

I've mixed a bit with a heavier coverage foundation to help sheer it out and add some glow and it works quite well like that but I can't help but think I'm missing the point.

I am going to use it again because I really like the fresh smell and it does feel nice on the skin. Think I just need to research how to use it a bit more to understand the hype!

Not an essential but good for a dewy effect

MAC's Strobe Cream has so much hype about it but I had always dismissed it as something that would not be suitable for my oily skin. Then when my skin began to dry up and look flat and dull, I decided to try out a travel size of the product to see if I liked it before taking the plunge.

Strobe cream pretty much just looks like a moisturiser, one that smells nice but pretty unspectactular given the fanfare, I was expecting something with a more noticeable sheen.

This goes on like a silky moisturiser, leaving the skin feeling and looking soft and dewy. It took me a bit of playing around to find out how to use this for me, unlike most products it's really vague about when you apply it, from the description it sounds more like a skincare product but I only use this when wearing full makeup.

I apply a small amount of this using my fingers after primer, leaving it to sink in a little bit before applying foundation on top of it. I find this helps bring a bit more life into my makeup, I normally wear full-coverage foundation and by applying Strobe Cream first my makeup has more dimension.

Tips: When wearing this I use a sheer instead of heavy powder as anything heavy just mattifies the effect.

I agree, it's very vague about when to use it. I've had to look online to figure that out!

It's a Meh take or leave, probably leave

I have a 30ml size of this. It's in a tube. It sits on the lid which I like. I also like the packaging logo and colour of the tube.

The cream comes out sort of silvery. I put it under my foundation where I wanna really glow. Or if my skin is looking dull I will use all over. I do make sure my skin is moisturised well first. For me it adds a real glow. Especially in selfies!

The texture is smooth and not to thick so it glides on well. This would drive me nuts in summer as having the extra layer on in the heat. I prefer my Becca shimmering skin perfector

I'll use again just because it's sitting there. I won't buy it. I won't recommend it as I have other highlight products that are waaaaaay better and better priced

MAC Strobe Cream

I am not a fan. I brought it off the MAC website in a travel size of 30ML just to try it out and im so glad i didn't spend all my money on a big version. I brought it because there was just so much hype about it being amazing so i thought why not give it a go right? I put it under my foundation like a primer, i looked like one of the vampires out of the twilight movie... so much shine.. I then went on to put my foundation and powder over it but even then i spouse it was just a little to much dewiness for me, it made me look quite oily through the day. So after giving that a go, i went on to see what it would be like under foundation where you would put your highlight and that looked okay, didn't make me go oily but the product just doesn't stand up to the hype i thought it would. Don't get me wrong it has very pretty and simple packaging which sits nice on any makeup stand! In the end i sold it and the lady i sold it to loves it. I wont be buying again. Don't buy into the hype!

I almost bought the travel size too but glad I didn't! I much prefer a matte finish to the skin.
