MAC Veluxe Brow Pencil Review

Best brow pencil I have tried to date!

I purchased my MAC Veluxe Brow Pencil through MAC's US website and received it a couple of weeks ago, since then it has become a staple in my daily makeup routine.

I have it in the shade 'Deep Brunette', which is a great colour match for my black brows. I find that if I use anything darker than a dark brown it looks too harsh as my brows are quite thick so Deep Brunette suits me well.

The pencil is long so you get plenty of product and is double-ended, with a spooly on the end you can use to groom your brows or brush the product through them. The pencil itself I found quite 'chalky' in texture, creating an almost powdery finish as opposed to the waxy feel of some brow pencils. It was very pigmented and soft enough so that you didn't have to press hard when using it. As mentioned I have quit thick brows so I like to use a pencil to define the edges of them, and a tweezing mishap quite awhile ago means one of my eyebrows is a tad far back from the centre. This pencil makes it easy to fill in anywhere you need and define your brow without looking harsh or overdone, creating a more natural, groomed effect. I normally like to finish my brow using my MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme for a more bold look but this pencil alone can be used to create anything from a subtle enhancement to a more dramatic effect, depending on how you use it.

This is probably the best brow pencil I have used to date and I'm very impressed by it, recommend for anyone either starting out with brow products or just wanting a good pencil to add to their collection.

Tips: I found that if I hold the pencil vertically, running the tip along my brow I can use the pencil to quickly shade my entire brow as I normally would a brow powder, perfect if you're wanting a natural look or are in a rush and don't have time to go over your brow with another product.

Thanks Lutece! I really love it, it doesn't look like much but so handy!

Amazing detailed review! I didn't know Mac sold pencils like this, and now I want one!

Absolute repair for your hair!

I love L'oreal products for haircare products, they have such high quality products that i find really work to repair dry, damaged hair. I've been using this range on and off for so many years after a recommendation from a hairdresser friend - the masque is also fantastic.

To explain the condition of my hair, over 10 years has been highlighted blonde- - i swap and change abit, sometimes platinum blonde, other times light blonde and medium blonde. The consequences of this are brittle, dry and weak hair that can tend to be frizzy. I brought this whole range (shampoo, conditioner and masque) hoping that it would help repair my damaged hair. I can gladly say that it worked!

The packaging for the shampoo and conditioner is stylish with its yellow tub, with silver trim. I find most of my Loreal products look high end and look great sitting in my bathroom.

The fragrance is lovely and slightly fruity and fresh smelling. I never get tired of the smell of this!

The shampoo is a good consistency and lathers up well, my hair feels clean and fresh after using it. The conditioner is very moisturising and makes my normally tangled hair feel smooth and tangle-free.

I love this shampoo and conditioner, they really works to give much needed tlc to my battered hair. The duo works to lock in moisture and hydrate my hair, turning dry, rough hair into silky smooth locks. It really does what it says and 'absolute repair' is such a fitting name.

I would recommend this range to anyone with coloured hair that needs some tlc- such an awesome shampoo and conditioner!

Tips: The masque is also great!

Phoenix Custom Blend Foundation Review

Phoenix custom blend foundation

I really really love the idea of having a foundation custom blended to perfectly suit my skin. I have three custom blend foundations to suit different seasons/skin colours and to be honest I'm over the novelty of custom as the formula just isn't holding up. The foundations can be mixed to a dewy or matte formula from what I remember and are very thin and liquidy. They dry very quickly so you best have your buffing brush ready to go. I found that the staying power was just not up to par. I used Phoenix pressed powder on top and for the first wee while it was fine and looked good, after a couple of hours of wear it was literally sliding off my face, the smallest touch or accidental brush of my face would end up with bald patches where the foundation was gone. It didn't hold up on my t-zone either which was disappointing as I consider myself to have relatively normal/combo skin. Parking at kingsland was a complete hassle too although once inside the make up shop was so pretty and peaceful and the staff were lovely.

Tips: Have the foundation applied and wear it for a day, see how it wears on your ski before purchasing.

Thanks, I was tempted to try this out as custom matching really appeals to me but the formula does sound terrible.

The Balm Down Boy

I've been enticed by many The Balm products for some time, I'm a sucker for cute packaging and they do it so well. The pretty pink of Down Boy really drew me in and I haven't been disappointed.

The packaging - cute, functional, quirky and compact. I like my blush packaging to be sturdy so I can travel with it and this fits the bill to a tee. We all know it's what's inside that really counts though! The powder is incredibly pigmented and finely milled, a light stroke picks up just the right amount of product to create a rosy flush of colour. It's described as a baby pink but on my medium skintones it comes across as more a cool, medium pink.

For everyday wear I use a light dusting of this swept across my cheeks, but you can apply it heavier for more of an impact. I'd suggest building it up slowly to avoid overdosing on colour though!

This is a really wearable blush and I'd recommend it for fair to olive skintones.

Tips: Build the colour up to get the depth you want instead of picking up a lot of product first go.

I've ordered through Beauty.com before who are great, I only have this and Bahama Mama which was a gift though. I really want to try Mary Lou manizer but I still have a few highlighters.

Where do you pick up your 'The Balm' products from? I've been interested in picking up a few.

Lush Rose Jam shower Gel Review

MY FAVE!

I LOVE this shower gel. Anyone who knows me knows that this is my absolute favourite shower gel! I've been buying this for two years now and always have a back up bottle.

This product is scented just like Turkish Delight which is super delicious. It's sweet and a little bit spicy and the scent lasts after the shower which is great. It's a dark pink colour and is quite thick so you don't have to worry about pouring too much out of the bottle.

I've bought all 3 sizes of this before - 100ml, 250ml and 500ml. They all have the same standard packaging - the clear bottle with the black cap and black label. The shelf life of this product is roughly a year which is great because I always use it faster than that! It is a little expensive for a shower gel but it's so worth it (especially if you can get it for 50% off on Boxing Day).

This product lathers up really well and I like to use it with a shower lilly. It makes me feel nice and clean after my shower and I always smell really good! The whole bathroom smells like rosewater too which is pretty nice.

This is limited edition and is available around Christmas and during July when Lush does its Christmas in July collection. I eagerly await the times when I can buy this product, and I will be very very sad if it ever gets discontinued!

Oooh I missed some of the Christmas products so I'll look out for them in July! I really want a dashing Santa. Why? no idea, I just want one.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY??!!! I am so very excited to hear that :D

fLash Amplifying Lash Serum

Best beauty purchase I have ever made.

Naturally I have the most underwhelming lashes - short, stubby, resistant to curling. I've always been envious of long lush lashes so when I heard about lash serums my ears pricked up. Most of them are quite expensive, but I saw some rave reviews on fLash which was a much more affordable $69 ($49 with Farmers rewards voucher woo!) so off to Farmers I trotted.

Packaged in a silver and frosted green tube similar to liquid eyeliner, the product itself is a clear serum. I applied it to my clean top lashes as part of my night time routine, using the brush applicator tip to run it along my lash line. You really only need a small amount of product, dip the wand in, wipe off any excess and I found the remaining amount was enough to do both eyes. I didn't bother using this on my lower lashes but that was personal preference.

WARNING: I did find the first two weeks using this my eyes felt very red and irritated, I wanted to immediately rub it off and I thought it might be an allergic reaction. Perservere though! This reaction disapeered after a couple of weeks, and after three weeks I could see results.

I've now been using fLash for ten weeks and I'm so impressed by the results I have received. It definately delivers on naturally long and beautiful lashes, mine look thicker and with mascara they even have a curl to them which even lash perming didn't seem to achieve!

This is hands down the best beauty purchase I have ever made and I highly, highly recommend it, and will keep on purchasing it.

Tips: Applu this at night to avoid putting product on it and red eyes in the day.

Yeah happened to me too!

I have been using it for two days and my eyelids are a little red. I was worried bit sounds like I just need to persevere!

Lovely product but a bit over hyped?

This was another one of those products I just had to try after hearing about it everywhere online! I was always deterred by the hefty price tag, but, eventually caved after hearing such amazing reviews. Now I have tried it, I have to say it isn't as life changing as I thought it would be and not a must have in my books.

First of all, the packaging is absolutely stunning! This is to me what luxury beauty looks and feels like. Hourglass really hit the mark with the packaging of this product . It is sleek, feminine and quality inside and out. It has a large mirror inside which is never a bad thing and three smoothed cubes of finely milled powders.

I am impressed by the smoothness of the powders and find they really do go on the face undetectably, never cakey or powdery looking once applied.

The three powders included in the palette are:

- Dim light which is the all over setting powder, is great all over the face and especially useful for setting under eye concealer as it is finely milled so doesn't leave me with as much creasing. I do like this powder, but, In all honesty I have drugstore face powders which I find set my face just as well...maybe it's just me but I don't find this hides imperfections any more or has any special powers over other setting powders.

- Incandescent light which is a highlight shade and is my favourite of the three. This highlighter is stunning on the cheekbones (and on the lid/brow bone as a shimmery eye shadow) and leaves you with a lit from within glow. The shimmer is subtle not chunky or overdone and is exactly how I like my highlight to be.

- Radiant light is the least used powder in my palette and is a pale bronzer with a subtle shimmer. It is gorgeous too, just a product I would only use as a bronze highlight in summer on my ghostly skin.

Overall, I really like this palette, but don't think it is anything amazing (especially for the price) in comparison to other products I have tried.

Thanks for the review, I've been eyeing this up but it's price has been deterrent and after reading this while it seems like a great product it doesn't sound like good value.

@kirstyj - For highlight I love Mac lightscapade MSF and for setting powder I truly find my australis fresh and flawless works just as well. I also love the bourjois healthy mix powder and both of @Chelseaadelaide's recommendations!

I totally agree! Beautiful product but not 'life changing' as it has been described by many. Kirstyj I personally prefer Stila Kitten or The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer for a more affordable but equally as lovely option. xx

What other products do you have that you like? Would love some other recommendations :)

Happy Light, Happy Me

I purchased this off ASOS in the shade No.50 Porcelain (I got No.52 Vanilla in the Healthy Mix) as reviews noted that the shades were slightly darker than the Healthy mix.

First of all it comes in a nice glass bottle with a great pump which you can dispense the perfect amount of product with and is nice and hygienic! I find it it easy to apply with both my real techniques expert face brush and miracle complexion sponge. It blends into the skin looking super skin like and giving a flawless satin finish.

I find this to be light coverage with just one pump although can be built up to medium coverage. It is more yellow toned than the Healthy mix (which is cool toned), but despite this I find they both work in the stated shades for my cooler toned skin.

I do really like this foundation and find its coverage and feel to be more tinted moisturiser/bb cream like. As it is only light coverage I only reach for it when my skin is looking good and just needs light coverage and some added colour. I find this wears well and doesn't reek havoc with my sensitive skin. It is more affordable than other similar foundations which is awesome and if you can grab on sale from ASOS that's even better.

Great foundation if light coverage is what you are after :) Personally I think I prefer the Healthy mix for a bit more coverage and a slightly dewier finish.

Tips: ASOS has beauty sales quite regularly so keep an eye out if this is on your to buy list :)

Great review Kirsty! I've been thinking of trying some Bourjois products but it sounds like Healthy Mix is a better suit for me.

Best worn Nude

I received an EDP gift set for Christmas containing a mini version of Rihannas 'Nude' and over the last month it's become one of my most worn perfumes at work.

This is a really feminine fragrance, soft and seductive and perfect for spritzing across the naked skin. A tropical fruity cocktail envelopes the top notes, almost like citrus and fresh mango. As it warms on the skin sweet vanilla comes through with a light floral bouquet. Compared to Rihannas other scents Nude is more like a slow dance to 'Stay' than the more in-your-face Reb'l Fleur.

In terms of longevity, this is one of the more longer-lasting fragrances I own, the scent prescent on my skin hours after application and I've had comments on the scent across the day.

I'm not overly fussed on the bottle design, it's more basic and practical than particularly stylish. I think keeping it simple and the beige colour does fit well with 'Nude' though.

I would consider repurchasing this as its a lovely vanilla floral scent that's good for everyday use and it's really affordable, I've already recommended it to friends.

Too Faced Soul Mates Blusher Bronzer Ross and Rachel Review

I just love the concept and it looks so cute

When I first spotted these on Too Faced newsletter of new items, my eyes lit up and I knew I was getting me these. Originally I wanted the Big & Carrie one as it was better suited for fair skin tones but as I was limited by where I could buy it from I ended up with Ross & Rachel. Side note though, now that Sephora have opened their online doors to international cards I have just acquired the Big & Carrie one so *happy dance* that review will come once I have had time to play.

Anyway onto the product, first of all if you are a fan of Too Faced you already know that this beautiful creation is made with quality and love, from its adorable heart shape in shiny black plastic with its Too Faced logo emblazed on the top in gold font. To the scent once you open it up, huge dose of chocolate aroma coming straight at you. I was shocked when I first got it though as it is quite large, I had expected it to be smaller for some reason. Flip open the heart case, which by the way screams Polly Pocket for those of you who like me had that as a child. Inside you have a swirled pattern of bronzer and insert in the corner is a little pink blusher in the shape of a love heart. Its all very mushy really but I love it.

Like I mentioned the Ross & Rachel blushing bronzer is designed for the medium skin tone but being fair I thought it was going to be too harsh, which the bronzer actually is a little the cocoa brown of the bronzer is a warm tone but its not excessively pigmentated which means you go on light and easy to build up a good contour on your face. The little pink blush is quite sharp in contrast too, again on the warm side it is a little bit more heavy on the pigments so don't do like me on first application and splotch it on heavy handed as you will get overly blushed cheeks that aren't easily blended. But what I do love is when I grab a huge fluffy kabuki brush and swirl it into both the blush and bronzer and dust it as a blush on the cheeks and temples. Oh my its a wonderfully lifting glow that I have never seen in a bronzer before its perfect!! I can see why they were picked to be put together. As I mentioned these colours aren't the easiest to blend so the method is to go light and easy allow the colour to build up as once its on there it isn't going anywhere in a hurry. I do use a setting spray but this hasn't smudged or rubbed off at all and every time I use it, it makes me smile which all my Too Faced products do, they are just so freaking cute and smell amazing!!

Tips: Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah this sounds amazing. This is almost at the top of my wishlist x

Great review! I've been really wanting this in Ross and Rachel and it sounds just as good as I imagined.
