Lush Respect your Elders Soap Review

Black-berried elder. A tree of legend, but also a great way to describe this magical blackcurrant-scented soap. Elderflower infusion, elderberries and olibanum oil create a potent spell for warding off evil (niffs that is!) Respect Your Elders will leave your skin silky soft and beautifully scented. Everything you look at can be turned into a story, so we say cancel storytime and let this become a part of your daily ritual.

No respect for this soap.... Sorry lush

I received this in a Gift pack at Christmas and it sat untouched for a couple of months before I opened it. It's not really a favourite for me in fact I want to say I really dislike it (sorry lush)

The colour and shape of the soap I like and just looking at it I had high hopes. It's a red purple colour with big white chunks through it. It's quite a soft soap so store it on a rack to prevent it from going mushy on the bottom.

The scent... Hmmm it's a very spicy floral scent and it is VERY strong, I'm all for strong scents the stronger the better but this one nope just nope. I am so disappointed as I was expecting blackcurrant and sweet and juicy. And all I can pick is the strong spicy slightly herbal scent.

I have only been brave enough to use this on my hands as I really don't think I could handle the scent all over my body. Won't be repurchasing and will probably struggle to get through the rest of the bar.

Oh so familiar

I first smelled this when I bought a friend a Lush gift for a birthday present and this was one of the items in the pack. She passed this to me to smell and I thought I must get one for myself next time too. So when it came out as a regular range item I nabbed one online. It arrived and that familiar scent was in my reach once again. It smelled so similar to a childhood toy or gift I had been given so many years ago. I wanted to instantly buy more... but I resisted (mostly because there were so many other new items released and also because I hadn't actually used the bar I had first) Thankfully as it turns out.

I eventually got the chance to open this block; there is something about having too many open blocks of Lush soap on the go that can make a shower daunting, so I usually cut my soaps into half or less so I can move onto the next one quicker. This particular soap is softer than the rest I have tried, as in almost spongy to touch... it sliced up easily and once in the shower it lathers up really quickly.

The pinker bits almost turn a pale pink-y white and the soap seems to disappear twice as fast. It claimed to leave skin feeling soft and moisturized but sadly mine was left feeling squeaky and grabby. I will use this up but I wont be going out of my way to repurchase it like I thought. It does smell lovely, like blackcurrant and elder flower (we used to have elderflower shrubs) and I do like it but this hasn't made it on to my 'Must keep buying' list.

All the nope's!!

Everyone knows by now that I love Lush but unfortunately this one just doesn't cut it for me! I got it in a xmas gift pack and loved the look of it. It is a delight for the eyeballs. It's a deep purple/plum colour with big white chunks spread throughout. It really is a beautiful soap.

Upon sight you would expect blackberries, or blackcurrant but it is a very different story smelling it up close, It smells of herbal and earthiness with a hint of floral tones. YUCK!! I expected a feminine scent, this is more manly to me. It is heavily spiced and not in a good way. I gave it the benefit of the doubt because often Lush soaps smell different dry than they do when lathered up.

I have to admit I do love the creamy flubble lather that it creates upon contact with skin and H2O. It releases the strong scent instantaneously and I do not love it! It's stronger when it's wet. All in all I think this is a soap more suited for washing hands not bodies. It left my skin super squeaky and dry, I had to moisturise all over, no thanks!

Tips: Keep it either in air tight container or in a rack to avoid scummy bottom after it's wet.

Not as special as I'd like

This lush soap is a beautiful purple colour with swirls of light pink in it. It has a light berryish smell with maybe a hint of fruitness. Compared to some other lush products, this isn't an overwhelming scent at all. You actually have to get up close to smell it, it definitely isn't something that is going to leave your bathroom smelling incredible.

I've used a heap of lush soap this year and I've found there is two main types. Some are harder soaps that last a long time but don't lather as well and others are soft and give you incredible bubbles but you use them up quick. This seems to be a mixture of both. When you first start using it, you have the darker purple harder soap. It didn't lather so great for me so I was totally loving it. As it wore down, I'm now left with a mostly pink soap which seems to be softer and lathers so much better. It isn't super soft though so it seems to be lasting ok and isn't getting all squishy.

I do use this as a hand soap so am using it several times a day. I find my hands are left feeling clean and lightly scented. It doesn't leave me feeling overly dry either. I personally won't repurchase as I prefer the soaps that are in your face scented. I paid around $10 for this block that is only about as big as a lux soap. If I'm paying that much, I really want something special otherwise I may as well be using the 99 cent soap at the supermarket. I'd suggest maybe giving this a sniff instore but I really think there are much better lush soaps out there than this one.

Purple fruits

Why Lush do you create all thing wonderful?!

I love it all! Including this deep dark purple soap, with slight pinky white swirls throughout. This is currently in my bathroom as our 'wash your hand' soap after I ran out of the godmother soap.

This soap isn't as powerful in the scent department like others from Lush but once it's in your hands and under the water lathering up and creating bubbles in your hands, It smells divine!

A fruity scent with a faint smell of flowers. This product is silky on touch and even more so when it is lathered up. Leaves my hands soft and smooth and feeling fresh and clean. What more could you want from a soap?

Fragrant Floral Bliss

During the mothers day period I got this soap in the Lush Mum box. I was so excited to use this soap as it was a new release this year. I never really used soap much but Lush soaps have totally changed my mind about soap.

Upon opening my plastic wrapper this soap is solid and rectangular in shape with a deep purple colour with white flakes marbelled through it. It reminds me of a raw amethyst stone. Before using this I thought this smelled like lavender and citrus. But when this got wet in the shower I realised that its the scent of the elderflower. It is a lovely scent and mine was very fragrant.

I noticed just using this bar alone in the shower its very hard to lather up. When I use this bar with a shower puff it lathers up perfectly. Leaves my shower smelling nice. My body feels clean and I can still smell this soap on my body three hours later. Longest time I've ever had.

One bar can last me a little over a month. Lush is priced high for a single bar but for me the quality of their soaps is superb. I highly reccomend trying Lush soaps. I've never been disapointed yet. I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy this one again.

Respect your Elders Soap

I bought this from the Lush shop as I love elderflower products and got pretty excited to see that Lush has an elderflower soap which smells pretty lovely when you purchase it. I used it in the shower and it's kind of "meh". It lathers up nicely but the fragrance in the shower is weak, weaker than ordinary soap fragrance. I'm going to keep using this as it's still soap but it's very ordinary for a Lush product. Was my skin soft and lovely afterwards? Well, it was ok, but this product isn't something to rave about unfortunately and I was hoping for something a lot less "meh".

Nice soap but not one of my Lush faves

I got this because purple is my fave colour, I love berries and it smelt pretty good! It really doesn't take much to convince me to buy sometimes. While it smells nice I don't find this scent particularly strong and once I've washed it off can't smell the scent on my skin. It doesn't lather up much and it has funny scratchy bits in it. I have happily used this soap to the end but since I have more than a few firm Lush soap faves I probably will stick to those ones in future.

Lush Respect Your Elders - Purplicious Berry Soap

If you like purple as a color, this soap is eye catching. It has this beautiful sort of marbled design featuring a dark and lighter shades of violet and purple. Based on the name the impression I got is that it would smell like something your grandma would use like a mature lavender scent. But instead it smelts like berries, blackcurrant with something to deepen the scent in the end notes, I think it's bergamot. This soap is sulfate-free so it found it's way into my bags and shower. I do like the natural ingredients list - rapeseed oil, coconut oil, glycerine, elderflower infusion, elderberries, bergamot, buchu, cypress and frankincense oil. This soap uses sodium sterate and sodium hydroxide to create a lather instead of sulfates. I do like using this soap in the shower mainly because of the scent. The cons of this soap is that there is a lot of unnatural perfume in this soap but unfortunately for that added artificial fragrance my skin isn't beautifully scented of berries or anything once the lather rinses off. Also my skin doesn't feel any moisture from using this. It doesn't feel super dried out from using this but it isn't incredibly silky soft. I'm a bit torn as whether to get this again as I do like the soap but I don't have any nice silky skin from using this. That being said I do have more sensitive skin and it doesn't get silky or moisturized from most soaps but at least my skin wasn't overly irritated from this.

Tips: Store it in a soap dish that allows the water to drain to get the most use out of this. Worth a try if you are looking for a sulfate free soap and love berry scents.

Um... What blackcurrant?

This soap is delightful to look at, not so much to use. I'm not sure how I got a piece, I think I bought it, but I don't think I'd buy it again.

The gorgeous purple color is the main reason I bought it. The second reason is because of the smells it promised me, and I was very excited. The white swirled through and it reminds me of Hades' river of souls, I'm not sure why, but it's very beautiful and I really enjoy looking at it.

The smell lets me down, it smells like regular supermarket soap with no smell, it's not very nice. However it lathers well and it does make my hands feel silky smooth and moisturized, but otherwise it's pretty disappointing.
