Lush Lord of Misrule Shower Gel Review

Mischievously herbal

A feast for the senses! Get down and earthy with this mischievous, herbal blend of patchouli, peppercorn and black pepper with an intriguing fair trade vanilla sweetness. As you rub this addictive lather all over the body, organic wheatgerm oil provides a nourishing dose of vitamin E to ensure your skin is in fine (and fragrant) party form. You won't be the fool after washing with this.

Not my cuppa tea and vegemite toast!

I got this baby in the mad xmas rush. I actually bought it for half price of the 500g so $17 ish. I didn't want to pay full price nor get a full size one but for $17 ish bux how could I let that pass me by. I liked the description it gave at the time of having a scent of vanilla sweetness mixed with black pepper. I was interested and excited to see what this combination would bring.

The green colour gave my bathroom a pop of colour other than purple and pink so it was a welcome change especially for my husband who is the most rugged man ever. It had an almost shimmery look to it and was very thick and creamy. All these things I love from the Lush shower gel range.

It comes in the same bottle as all the Lush shower gels. Simple, no frills but effective design keeping with their clean green image. When I took my first huff and filled my nostrils with its scent I was taken back and not in the best way. I couldn't smell the vanilla sweetness it spoke of and what I can only describe it as was spicy earthiness in a bottle. I knew it would have some sort of kick to it because of the black pepper but it was very overpowering. It was a man's fragrance not a women's. It wasn't aimed at a gender but still you would expect it to be unisex. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it in the shower because quite often the smell you smell in the bottle takes on a whole new life on your skin.

I lathered up the gel which gave me bubble galore....love that! I still couldn't fall in love with it and I could almost say I hated it. My husband thought it was magical so I bought him another to feed his love of it. I ended up disliking the scent that much that I sold the new one. I couldn't stand the smell in my bathroom after a shower urgh, See what makes me raise my eyebrow a tad is I LOVE the bath bomb but the shower gel is a whole other story. Definitely for a male rather than a female unless you like spicy manly smells.

Tips: Get the smaller bottle if it is available next time around because if you don't like it, it's a waste of your money.

Love the bomb version but the gel?

When Lord of Misrule was released as a bath bomb, I tried one, fell in love and kept a stash of them as reserves to keep me going a while whilst they were off the shelves due to it being a limited edition seasonal release. This year saw the release of the Lord of Misrule shower gel so I grabbed the bottle without a second thought.

Packaging as with all Lush items are plain and universal to the brand in its clear plastic bottle, with black plastic cap and black label wrapped around its middle. Being understated is chic though and looks great in the shower, less messy and fussy which I love. Although the lid was a little resistant to pop open which might be due to false nails but it is pretty easy to just unscrew and take the lid off to operate so no big deal breaker there.

Inside sits the gloppy green that reminds me of those old early 90's kids shows, where it was all about the gunge, this colour matches my memory of those poor people getting dunked. Showing my age there so will quickly move on.... Quite a thick formula but it trickles out in a steady stream from the bottle, I pop into a shower lily/pouffe and create a foaming mess that easily gets my entire body cleansed in a snap. There is a fine shimmer effect that glistens silver through the gel that leaves a soft gleam on the skin, not too visible on my pale skin but I felt it there, which might be the piece of the formula that had me itching.

With the same wonderful scents as the bath bomb it is a sensory overload which is welcomed as I shower in the morning, this helps to awaken you. With spices, a deep musk and a herbal smells wafting around you it is a scent I would purchase if Lush ever evolved it into a perfume (which they sometimes do!)

However as I noted before, I got itching and after eliminating other factors it was down to this gel, which is odd as I don't have particularly sensitive skin but I got a little bit of red rash over parts of my skin and after every use I would complain of not feeling clean and be constantly scratching myself. Never had this problem with the bath bomb so will have to go back to those if they bring them back this year.

Hulk Hogan

I love the lord of misrule bath bomb and stocked up on them in the mid-winter limited edition release so when I heard there was a shower gel coming out in time for Halloween I was hoping I was in for that same mysterious scent in gel form. Also me being one of those annoying hoarders that expect some kind of zombie apocalypse I stocked up on bottles of the stuff. (Thank goodness I do love it)

The clear plastic bottles with the trademark black “lush” label are one of my favourite bottle types, clear is great as you always know how much you have and they are so easy to grab and squeeze in the shower. Now it could be me but I have been finding the flip top lids kind of hard to “flip” open now and have sliced my thumb in the process so now use a towel for a bit of grip to open them.

The colour of the shower gel is a bright deep green colour like spring grass leaping from the fields. It also has the added bonus of lustre too, leaving a slight shimmer on your skin when you pat dry your skin.

The consistency of the shower gel is very thin, almost like runny cream so you do have to be a wee bit careful when you squeeze it out as to not squeeze too hard or you will end up with a mess like I did the first time I used it!! I squeezed slightly too hard and ended up with a heap splattered on the bottom of the shower and blimey it is hard to wash away. The scent is just like the bath bomb except stronger, it’s herbally, peppery, musky almost masculine kind of scent but I love it for something a bit different and the man can use it (unlike snow fairy)

The scent lingers for hours! But it is quite strongly scented so beware if you don’t like the stronger ones. I have every finger crossed that this makes a comeback this year

Tips: be very careful pouring it out

Its a Green Machine!

So again I heard of Lushes Lord of Misrule on the forum. This is where most of my purchases get enabled from. If you haven't been on the forum I encourage you to do so. So many recommendations come from there. The idea of getting a boxing day haul from there was genius and I certainly will be doing that again.

The Lord comes in Lushes Black and white labelled containers. Nothing fancy but they do their job nicely. Sturdy bottle I haven't had any breakages so far. Flip top lid easy to open and shut. I got a 250 ml bottle. The lord scent is described a being warm roasted vanilla with a michevious twist of spice that awakens your senses. This gel is a bright emerald green. Boy is it bright. Formulation of this gel is quite runny. Beware it splatters easily.

I try to use a small amount but it flows quite fast. I think I used way more than I should. Once foamed up its spreads evenly and theres no need to add more because this scent hit you instantly. Its like lathering spicy frankincense. It has a level of smokiness to it too.

The quality of Lushes body washes are undeniably good. Some may not be my favourite scents but I have enjoyed the quality of fragrance between each one. This one is my sons favourite . This scent stays on him to the next day. I have never had a shower gel do that for my kids. I feel like they safe are for my whole family to use being vegan. I have no doubt in my mind that I will purchase again for my whole family. Now to find a shower gel for my partner.
