It recently occured to me that when it comes to my face I'll spend a small fortune on products that contain active ingredients - acids/retinols etc - to keep my skin in tip top condition. And yet when it comes to my body I just buy whatever smells good and is on special at the supermarket. Well, it seems beauty companies have cottoned on to the face fabulous/body basic ways of we human beings and are now creating skin care for your body that includes active ingredients to ensure all of you, not just your face, is looking as prepped and polished and nourished as possible.
We're talking body lotions with retinol, body washes featuring acids, mists to soothe and tone dehydrated or stressed skin, serums filled with fancy ingredients that promise to smooth and hydrate, moisturisers pumped up with hyaluronic acid, fancy oils and peptides to give you your most luminous limbs ever.
And the prices, my beauties, are up there with the dollaroos you'll spend on your face. Whereas you can get a basic exfoliator or moisturiser at the supermarket for under $10 (ones that have achieved the Beauty Review Top Rated badge, no less), you can easily pay $50+ for an active ingredient-filled product. Yes, they're about five times bigger in size than a serum or moisturiser for your face but the area it's being applied to is easily ten times bigger than your face - making it one expensive all over body treatement!
My question is... do you think it's worth it to spend that kind of money on your body?
If I were a model and my limbs looking good paid the bills then I could absolutely see the investment in high quality skincare for my body. But if your limbs are just there to get you from a to b, to hold shopping bags, to wave themselves round on a dance floor every now and then, well... is it worth forking out the big bucks? Or is it just a smart way for the beauty business to cash in on people's desire to look their best, to stem the ageing process, to keep up with the influencers who get sent the products to showcase. Hashtag 'ad' anyone?
For me? I'll be sticking with spending my money on my face and keeping my body basic, but what about you?
Do you think flashing the cash on your body is worth it? Or are you a body basic gal like me?

I too tend to spend the quality on more facial skin care rather then body. I guess as my skin changes i can adjust my face creams and for problematic areas such a fine lines or acne the product is more specific. I find cheaper brands do have quality body products such as the nivea naturally good organic lotion. Its a great product and a great price
