Where do you find your beauty tutorials?

Beauty inspiration is everywhere.  Whether you're bored with your hair, fancy changing your makeup or have a special occasion coming up, you only have to look around to be inspired.

TV shows, movies, posters, store windows, magazines, album covers, music videos, newspapers, the catwalk, clothing catalogues.  Movie stars, singers, newsreaders, the stranger walking down the street.  Wherever you look style (to be fair, good and bad) is everywhere.

Now once you've seen a look you like, how do you go about recreating it?  Do you sit in front of the mirror for a few hours and play around or do you look for guidance?

The internet is a wonderful tool - you can find how-tos on how to achieve anything, and beauty is no different.  If you want to know how to create finger waves you only have to pay a visit to Auntie Google to find countless articles and videos showing you how.

But what medium do you prefer?  I've always been a reader, I process information more efficiently if I'm reading it than if I'm being told or shown.  I learned to knit from an instructional guide printed in 1939.  So my first stop when I'm trying to learn a new beauty technique is one of my favourite blogs.  If they prove fruitless I widen my search, all the while ignoring the YouTube results that Google favours to the top of the list.  Heck I've been known to trawl online databases of magazines from the 20s to find out how to achieve the look I want.

And yet in the last 6 months I've found myself becoming more aware of Vlogs - and the popularity they hold.  From professional makeup artists to ladies that are just really good at makeup, there is more than likely a video on YouTube for any look you could ever want to create.

So where do you look for guidance and how-to advice regarding beauty?  Are you a blog reader (or even more old school, maybe you still buy magazines?) or do you prefer the vlog?  Why do you like what you like?

i mostly like watching videos, and occasionally read blogs

I like a good mix of blogs and vlogs! I think my technique is pretty good, however vlogs are good for learning new things

you tube is my go to and then if I just can't get it I will look for written instructions (usually still with picture guidance because I am mega visual)

I love videos for how to do things with products and blogs for interesting thoughts on new things. I then go to BR once I am thinking about getting something to see what others think.

I usually prefer magazines but have been finding BR video clips very helpful so have recently started watching videos from other sources - very enlightening :)

Videos are good but I prefer the written word.

Step by step instructions are great, I will look into you tube clips for some things, but the hardest part is knowing what to search for!

I've been watching vlogs for years (2008 when I first started properly using the net). I learn best by watching something being done, I'm useless at following an instruction sheet!

Youtube and Br :)

15th December, 2014

Youtube tutorials are my besties although watching the couple of How To's by BR are far easier to follow and don't use american branded products which I can't get here to achieve the same look.

15th December, 2014

I hunt down my tutorials on youtube mainly. It's good to see exactly how it is done in succession rather then photographs or written instructions!

15th December, 2014

I like watching vids :) hoping they show me how to so I can given it go go step by step. I just recently clicked the "how to" button on BR....Helpful! :)
