The Vain Reason to Quit Smoking!

Do you dream of quitting smoking but have yet to find that one last reason to tip you over the edge into giving up? You know it’s bad on your health, it’s bad on your bank balance, heck you know in this day and age it’s not even a good look, but have you thought about the damage it’s doing to your actual looks?

Yes as we age we wrinkle, the skin becomes softer, we sag, but in a smoker this process happens faster.  Smoking is a destroyer of collagen and elastin, which leads to sagging  - and the longer you smoke the saggier your skin gets, and not only on your face…your boobies can start to head south too!

It’s not only sagging you have to worry about, smoking creates deeper wrinkles, especially around the lips and eyes. Research has also shown that people who smoke are perceived as looking older than those who don’t.

Does your skin look grey or uneven in skin tone? You know what to blame. The carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke is quite the bolshie chemical and likes to crowd out any oxygen that’s trying to get into your skin. Meanwhile nicotine with its blood flow reducing ways leaves sky dry and discoloured.

Other studies have also found that smoker’s skin doesn’t heal as well as non-smokers, which means scars are likely to stick around longer and look nastier too.

But is it all doom and gloom? Of course not. Our bodies are amazing things, and the earlier you quit smoking the more time you’ll be giving your body to repair any damage done.  The moment you stop your skin will start to enjoy more oxygen and nutrients, creating a healthier looking complexion. You can also boost the repair by using skin creams containing vitamins like C and E, and retinol products can help too.

So tell us, have you quit smoking and noticed a difference in your looks? Are you thinking of quitting? Are your looks important enough to you to make you stop? Get chatting!

I've been smoke free for some time know, admittedly I do vape though. I had noticed the impacts on my skin and health in general while smoking and long term now and it's not great! I hope to be vape free by 2021 too!

I gave up late 2008 early 2009. My favourite was Port Royal 30 or 50gms, yellow paper and yellow zig zags.

I quit cold turkey and will not smoke again. I am still a pro at rolling them; it's a talent! I like the smell of a just opened fresh packet. Lol! Some times people who smoke smell like old crusty cigarette butts in an ash tray with rain water in it. (I don't mean to upset anyone. Just sharing my option x)

I gave up nearly 2 years ago this Christmas but mainly because the habit was getting too expensive. My skin however is looking much better so I agree,it definitely does age you.

I hate smoking with a passion! It stinks so bad. I'm glad hardly anyone I know smokes.

I smoked for years and stopped 10 years ago. I wish I'd never started and I'm so happy I stopped.
