How often do you step out of your (lip) comfort zone?

“I tend to wear clear gloss more, but if I do wear lipstick it would be a nude colour, however, I love bold lips and wish I had the confidence to wear it at work.” - Maybelline survey respondent.

We've spoken a few times about the recent Maybelline survey that revealed 40% of Kiwi women only wear lipstick a couple of times a month.

So why are so many of us wary about taking the lipstick plunge?

"Many lipstick wearers are conscious of choosing colours that don’t suit them in fear they will stand out in a crowd"  says Maybelline New York Group Brand Manager Victoria Clark.  Other lipstick worries include lipstick feeling heavy on the lips, lipstick wearing off too easily and picking the wrong shade.

Now at Beauty Review - you are our experts.  You tell us what products work and what products fail to impress.  But every now and then we think everyone needs a little push to try something a little different.  Which is why we're looking for members that are willing to take a little challenge!

Our "Step outside your lip comfort zone" trial team will see 5 BR members each receive a Maybelline lipstick.  They will promise to wear the lipstick for a week and will send a selfie of their lipstick look.  The only catch is - they won't know what shade they've agreed to trial until they open their courier pack!

So who needs to shake things up lip wise? Tell us about your lipstick ruts and we might just help you jump out of it (looking fabulous of course!_

So come on - who's keen to get a little lippy?

I'm a wild one for sure! So keen to try out a mystery lip shade! <3

I have recently started branching out more and more in the lipstick area. It can make a real statement to your outfit without having to use a clothing or jewellery accessory. Love some of the adventurous shades out there!

I love the idea of wearing brighter colours instead of my "safe zone" nude lip. I am getting better, I used to when going to wear a bolder brighter colour I would chicken out and end up wiping it off halfway through the day and throw on my trusty nude over the top. I'm slowly getting there

I am so boring with my lipstick choices, I guess it seems scary to me to be so bold with my lipstick choice? I'm not too sure why I feel like that but generally out in public I would only wear nude or maybe a lip toned pink!

I hardly ever wear lippy I quite often will put it on and then wipe if off 5 minutes later telling myself it looks weird or too overdone. it would be great to actually be MADE to wear it defiantly need to step out of my comfort zone :)

I am in a phase where I am recreating myself at the moment, so worth a shot. Never know it just might be my new favourite colour.

I picked I'm a real wild one, but I suppose my version of 'wild' is still a lot tamer than some! I love a bold lip or a glossy nude, but have yet to venture out to some of the trends like a black, green or blue lip. Awesome trial idea though! At work I'm in scrubs and a hair net in a pretty 'natural makeup' environment, so tend to rock the nude or soft pink look at work, would be interesting to see something more out there in that sort of environment!

This sounds so fun and super risky who knows what colour you might get but a promise is a promise. Defiantly keen to try something different and step out of my comfort zone.

I would def step out of my comfort zone if I only knew what colors really suited me

I am so keen to start getting out of my nude rut and have been making a conscious effort to only allow myself bold adventurous colors, that selection of mine is very small but i'm determined to say no to nudes!

I am new to the lipstick gang, since joining BR I have been buying lipsticks when I can, when my sister comes she has plenty so I get to try all her ones to see what will suit me, but im always keen to try new things, when I wear a loud lipstick I go for sutle or natural looking eyes, but when I do smoky or dramatic I like to keep my lips nude

I'm definitely one who plays it safe... I often put on a bold colour and then chicken out just before it's time to go out and remove it. I love bold lipstick, though (although I do think that it's important to pick a colour that is flattering to your skintone, or it can go horribly wrong!). However I have been braveish in the last week or so, and have actually worn both of my two bolder colours (a hot pink and classic red) to uni, which is a huge step for me. And I survived to tell the tale!

2nd April, 2014

I usually stick to the same shades that I know suit me and change shades to go with whatever I'm wearing. I'm always up for a challenge though and would welcome something different to trial :-)

2nd April, 2014

I am far too scared to try new lip colours. I do as I am told
