The Hot New Way To Highlight!

With glowing skin being huge this year you can bet your bottom dollar that highlighting isn’t going anywhere, especially now that there’s a new technique on the block – chroming.

Created by dominic_mua, Senior Artist at MAC Cosmetics UK, chroming involves taking a lipstick and applying it to the areas of your face where you’d usually highlight, such as your upper cheekbones and brow bones. Dominic used MAC X Mariah Carey ‘All I Want’, which is a champagne shimmer shade, and as you can see the look is pretty darn gorgeous, with a whole lot of glow.

Of course when a MAC Master says something’s hot, the makeup lovers of the world listen, and people have been taking their most highlight-y lipsticks and slicking them on their skin.

How gorgeous is the chroming on beaner_keemer, and the fact the chroming application stuck around for half a day? Amazing!

minniefr rocks the look (and can we talk about that eyeshadow? So stunning!!)

This look from lucoh is divine, and shows how chroming can work on all skin tones. Love!

Perhaps what we’re loving most about this trend is that it shows us just how versatile lipstick can be. Not just for the lips – and the cheeks in a pinch, it’s got a good portion of your face covered!

So do tell… will you be digging out a lighter shimmery shade of lipstick from your collection to try this hot new trend? Will you shun chroming in favour of your current powders and creams? Or is the whole highlighting game not your bag of chips?

I don't highlight often and I don't really own any chrome or metallic lipsticks as I prefer matte.

This would depend on the lipstick too. Some of them are quite patchy and may leave skin looking oily instead of dewy

I personally would feel strange with lippy all over my face so will stick to my powders ;-)

I really like it - might have to try but will definitely need to get a nice lippy to have a go!!

I have been using lipstick on my face for years instead of blusher, it works really well.

I think it might work for some of us and thats ok. Not for me though, my amazing daughter gave me a great MAC highlighter which I am enjoying learning to use.

I can see that its giving off a natural glow. Im usually all for giving new things a try, but not this one lol

I don't see a difference between using this or your regular highlighter. I guess if you were traveling and wanted to save space or all you have is a nude shimmery lipstick and you don't have highlighter. Or you wanted to try using a cream or stick highlighter and so used this instead of your regular powder highlighter. I think this trend wouldn't suit those who have the tendency to break out with cream products. I think I will be sticking with my Hourglass and Becca highlighters.

I struggle with highlighting! However, I love the idea and would try it.

I think some lipsticks could be very clogging on the skin. I don't have any light shimmery lipsticks (or do I??...) so won't be trying this. It does look pretty though.

I like how simple it looks. I often use a red or pink lipstick as a blush when I'm out and want to freshen up my make up.

I struggle with highlighting- it seems to accentuate every floor in my skin. I can't see this working abt better for me either.

Got to love a good multi-purpose product, I am still yet to jump on the highlighting bandwagon though (along with contouring).

I love this idea, however I would like to use something NZ made and cruelty free!

I know you can use lippies as a blush or bright colours as concealer, so why not give it a go for chroming? think this is a great idea for darker skin tones as lippy can be quite thick and harder to ensure no lines are showing!
