Pronunciation of Ethique

I was just wondering how the brand Ethique is pronounced. I’ve always said “Eth-eek” (like the word ethic, with an ‘ee’ sound where the i is).  A few days ago, I heard it pronounced “Eh-teek”. She literally said it like it was two separate words, “Eh Teek”.

So ... how do you pronounce it, and how should it be pronounced?

I always thought Eth-eek too until I saw Brianne being interviewed on tv. According to their website it is Eh-tique.

Speaking of mispronunciation, I've just been watching the news and wondering how I'm going to handle TVNZ saying Toe-key-o instead of Tokyo until the Olympics (aye Trudi!)

yup, ethique, used to be sorbet. Both French words, for some reason. Ethique is 'eh-teek' and it means 'ethical'.

Soozie, i WILL get amusingly rage filled if you push that button right now

Lol, Shaz. That's one I do know as I used to get called Antipodean in the U.K.

Shaz that one i knew, it's an-tip-o-dees because that's how you pronounce it when it's used in the other sense - ie when the northern hemisphere refer to Aus/NZ in English we're often called 'the Antipodes' or 'The Antipodean Islands', meaning 'those at the other end of (the earth)' or something.

There are quite a few. I've heard Plantae pronounced plant, plant-e and plant-ay. And Natio pronounced nay-toe and nay-tea-oh.

I had the same problem with Antipodes! My husband corrected me. Shame. Haha
