Makeup Be Stayin' on my Face!

I, like many others, received this in the September BRBB and I was stoked - Everything I've tried of Trilogy's is awesome, so I was so pleased to see this in the box. It came with a gorgeously soft facial cloth as well, and I love it!

The product is in a 80ml jar which is surprisingly heavy for the product, but as a balm I suppose it's to be expected. The lid twists off and you're greeted with a lovely pale golden yellow color and the heavenly smell of roses hits you slowly, faster if you decide to have a good sniff.

The balm is exactly that, a balm. It's thick, but it melts easily at the touch and you can easily scoop some out. However that's what I don't like about this product, I prefer my cleansers with a pump as it seems slightly more hygienic.

This rubs in smoothly to the face and you don't notice it getting rid of your makeup until its gone! However. I don't think it does a very good job, as I feel like I have to use more than the recommended amount to get my mascara off. It doesn't melt my mascara like Bossy does, which was my favorite at the time. I used a maybe half a teaspoon, most of it on my eyes, and my mascara stayed firmly put.

This also hurt my eyes, but that was the only place it hurt so I must not have taken it all off. It was a lovely product but sadly it had a poor performance and I wouldn't buy it with my own money.

Didn't Really Work For Me

I like the idea of being to remove my makeup quickly and completely - so I was super excited when I got to try this in one of the beauty boxes - it sounded right up my alley...unfortunately it wasn't really for me.

The concept was great...apply to face, work it around, then remove it with water and the supplied cloth. While it seemed to remove most of my foundation, I found it super difficult to remove my eye make up, especially my mascara. I found that I was still having to use make up remover wipes to remove whatever make up was left on my face.

The facecloth was slightly redundant as well. While it did help to remove some of the product, being that it was white, after one use it was dirty - and I mean dirty (especially with the removal of the make up I use on a daily basis).

While this wasn't for me, it may work better for someone who doesn't wear as much make up, because for me and my full daily made up face, it didn't really remove enough product for me to justify using it!

Be Gone, Balm

I can't comment on the packaging as I'd asked my local Farmers store for a sample of this product (by taking in my own sample pot) as I didn't want to commit to the fairly large tub without knowing how my skin was going to react or how well it was going to work. The balm is a pale yellow colour with a firm, almost coconut oil consistency that softens and "melts" with body heat from your fingers and skin.

I really did want to love this product as there is so much hype around it but, unfortunately, Trilogy Be Gone Cleansing Balm just didn't do it for me. The balm needs to be applied to dry skin and I had to massage quite firmly to spread and smear the balm and my make-up all over my face in order for the balm to "melt" my make-up off before wiping it off with a warm cloth. The balm also left me with a greyish-black panda-eye effect around my eyes, especially if I'd used a long-lasting gel eyeliner pencil and this didn't come off when wiping the balm off with the warm cloth. I had to use micellar water to remove it.

I don't like the way the balm felt on my eyes and eyelashes and it left me with blurry vision after use. It also didn't really leave my skin feeling clean, it felt like there was still some kind of 'dirty', oily make-up residue on my skin and I felt the need to cleanse with a foaming cleanser afterwards.

The packaging says to use a quarter of a teaspoon of balm but that amount just wasn't enough to remove a full face of make-up. I ended up using between half a teaspoon and a full teaspoon, depending on whether I was wearing long-lasting eyeliner or not.

I'm really glad that I didn't spend my money on a full sized tub, only to be horribly disappointed. I won't be recommending or purchasing this product. I'd rather use Lipidol's Cleansing Oil, it's more affordable, much easier to use and it emulsifies with water, so it simply rinses away. No oily residue and no wash cloth needed.

Tips: Take your own sample tub (these can be bough from Dollar Stores) and ask for a sample before you buy a full sized tub.
