Worth the price tag

This facial sunscreen carries a pretty hefty price tag for only 50ml (about $32 I think) however it is TOTALLY WORTH EVERY CENT! It applies beautifully to the face and you only need a small amount.

The product comes in small white bottle with a screw top lid. I found the lid a little annoying because it requires two hands to put back on (whilst also juggling the sunscreen you've poured into your hand). I think a flip top would have been better.

The cream itself is quite a thin cream. You only need a really small amount to cover your face and neck. It glides on to the skin really well (I prefer to apply moisturiser before sunscreen so this probably helps). The cream is not at all greasy or sticky like most sunscreens. It absorbs into the skin almost immediately and you wouldn't even know it was on there.

I found it worked really well both under make up (although I did find that applying a moisturiser on top of the sunscreen made make up application easier) and on its own.

This is easily the best facial sunscreen I have tried. It's actually hard to believe it's sunscreen since it doesn't have that horrible sunscreen smell or greasiness. It's pricey, but a little goes a long way and I will definitely be buying this again.

Tips: Apply moisturiser overtop of the product before applying make up

The best facial sunscreen ever!

I have very fair and quite sensitive skin and while I can tan slightly I normally burn so I need a good protection high SPF sunscreen that is suitable for our harsh climate therefore I normally only wear sunscreens that are made in NZ. This sunscreen is made in France but offers 50 + protection against both UVA and UVB rays so I was excited to trial this product as it is hard to find a sensitive, ultra thin facial sunscreen.

The sunscreen comes in a 50ml bottle with a thin nozzle. I found the design rather frustrating as the sunscreen is super runny in consistency that sometimes after you shake the bottle and open the lid it can ooze out the top. This would be the only negative I had with this product and is not a flaw of the sunscreen itself. I applied the sunscreen to my face and neck after I had cleansed and moisturisered my face. I then applied my usual make-up. The great thing about this sunscreen is how light it feels on your skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a white sheen on your face. It's also has a pleasant scent too. I felt like I was using a make up primer rather then a sunscreen.

The verdict: This sunscreen gave great sun protection for over the 2hours timeframe stated on the bottle. ( I wouldn't recommend leaving it longer however as this was something I didn't plan to do). I have used it about half a dozen times before writing this review and so far I haven't been sunburn, had any skin irritation or breakouts. I haven't tried it while exercising or during water activities yet so I can't comment about its effectiveness there.

While it is rather pricey at $31.99 for 50mls I highly recommend this suncreen for sensitive skin types or anyone wanting a high level of protection that feels lovely and light on your skin.

Tips: Shake well before use and be careful as the sunscreen can run out the top of the lid very quickly.

For the Sun-Intolerant!

Time to rethink how I feel about facial sunscreen, and this makes it easy to start using this in my daily routine. I like the way this is marketed, the catch-phrase for the "Sun Intolerant", made me smile, as that is definatley what I am, so I dived on in and started using this every day. The package is small, and rectangular, the cap screws off to a nozzle type applicator, not much bigger than a pack on mints, much better than a hole in a lid on a tube! I would call this a light non greasy lotion rather than the heavy sloppy thick cream that I had perceived all sunscreen to be. Application was easy, it comes out of the nozzle without much force, and seeing as this is so light in texture it melts into the skin, once left to dry, there was no excessive oiliness, and no irritation, this is so light I do not see this clogging my pores at all, yay! There is a slight chemically smell to this, but its not offensive or off putting, and it diminishes as the fluid dries, there is also no white residue left behind on the skin, so fantastic to use in the morning pre-makeup. Early days yet on how effective this can be, but being SPF +, and UVA and UVB resistant, I am looking forward to not getting a burnt nose this summer, good for the whole family to use, I have no worries in making sure we are all protected from the sun!

Tips: Make sure you shake the container, and remove the lid carefully, the lotion is so light and runny it will automatically dispense if you don't!

A real surprise!!

Now i'll start off by saying the bottle is just SOOOOOO cute. On the surface it looks tiny but it's a 50ml bottle, but don't be deceived ladies it appears that good things come in small packages.

The first time you use it the product comes out quite quickly as it's very liquid so that is a bit of a watch out. It does warn you to shake well but this didn't really impact the speed the product came out of the bottle, but that said, once I got used to it it was fine.

This product is specifically designed for sensitive and sun intolerant skin so it's non perfumed. And the good thing is that the smell of it is really inoffensive.

The product claims to be ultra light and a BIG tick for that it literally sinks into your skin and disappears which is a big tick. It's non greasy and you can easily wear it under your make up.

This is a purse sized pack, it's not designed for full body coverage so don't expect to be lathering your body in it from head to toe. But it's so perfect to keep in your handbag to top up during the day for face and hands or to give to the kids. I love it and it will come in so handy. I'm off overseas in a few weeks and this will be coming with me for sure.

Tips: I loved it and it's made me want to check out more products from this brand.

Sunscreen convert - also, is this magical?

As much as I've tried to get into wearing a dedicated sunscreen on my face I've never managed it. The scent, the thick texture, the way it feels like it's clogging my pores... I've just not been able to get passed it even though I've wanted to include a sunscreen in my regime. I'd read so many good things about the La Roche-Posay sunscreen so I was so grateful to be selected for this trial. (Thank you Beauty Review.)

First of all the packaging is... interesting. It's very compact, rectangular with a little nozzle. Perhaps not the prettiest packaging, but I do like that it will fit easily into my handbag or beach bag without taking up too much room.

You give the bottle a shake before applying and off you go. The lotion is very thin and runny and a little goes a long way. It has a scent that's not all that nice to be honest, BUT it disappears on the skin - couldn't smell a thing! The sunscreen applies easily and soaks in quickly and then the magic happens. My skin feels smoother after applying this on top of my usual serum/moisturiser, and it looks - blurred almost. Like I really good primer. Afterwards I applied foundation and it went on beautifully without any patching or breaking up (which has happened on occasions when I've tried facial sunscreen), it also didn't make my skin oily by the end of the day (as has happened before). Instead my skin looked amazing and most important of all - it didn't burn even when I went outside for a few hours in the middle of the day.

This product has easily inserted itself into my routine and I now wouldn't be without it. It may not be the most affordable but it is certainly the best I've tried. Love it!

Tips: Get a second bottle for your car/handbag so you're never caught short.

An excellent product for the harsh NZ sun

Wow what can I say but wow!!

Easy to use, no smell, and doesn’t leave that sunscreen feeling.

Having always used the Mecca save face spf30 facial sunscreen it was nice to give this a go and have something I swear by as a comparison and I can say it did not fail.

It’s super runny so be aware when you use you don’t need to squeeze the bottle and you only need a small amount as it smooths on to your face really well. Make sure to give it a good shake before you use or it seperates though.

I trialled this both with makeup and without and lucky it sinks into your skin well so works amazing under makeup and does not effect how your makeup goes on.

While it’s a small bottle for $34 it goes a long way so price wise id say it’s very reasonable. Bottle is very boring looking not really a beauty looking product but nothing that would make me turn away.

I think this product is amazing and will work well for my skin over summer saving it from any damage.

Tips: Shake well!! Very well!!

La Roche-Posay® Anthelios XL Ultra Light SPF50+

I *thought* I shook the bottle really well, might be just me.

It says "New Ultra-light texture. Nude-skin effect fluid. Non-greasy, invisible finish."

I found the texture to be similar to runny PVA and even smells a bit like it. (It claims to be fragrance-free so it might just naturally smell like that?)

On first application it does feel slightly greasy - to be honest all sunscreens feel greasy to me. But after being outside for a bit that sort of disappears. Probably needs time to work itself into the skin. The slight shine from application will disappear too and it does feel light.

Tips: Shake it vigorously - like, *really* well!

Wow!!

I was lucky enough to be selected to trial this and Wow!! hardly covers my reaction. I work outdoors so sunscreen is a necessity. One of my biggest gripes though is when it gets hot that most sunscreens end up running in my eyes which this one didn't. The 50ml bottle looks like a shrunk-down pump bottle but actually has a nozzle. The fluid is white, mainly scent free and quite runny but is very easy to apply and absorbs into my dry skin quickly. Even when outside in direct sun I never got burnt so I believe the 50SPF label on the bottle as I have been burnt with lesser sunscreens in similar conditions before. The price tag (about $35 for the 50mls) might seem a bit high but it really is worth every penny.

Tips: Only squeeze lightly as the fluid is quite runny and comes out rather fast.

Don't take this one (Ultra) Lightly!

As Kiwis, we grow up very used to the idea that the sun is a powerful and dangerous presence, peeking through that nasty hole in the Ozone layer. However, it's not until this year that I've really taken SPF products seriously. The past few months have been a whirlwind tour of searching for that elusive Holy Grail formula. One that doesn't sting, smell, or sit awkwardly under make up.

I jumped at the chance to trial this product as it always features on skincare gurus suggested sunscreen lists and I have to say, I have not been disappointed. The formula is very light, and being a chemical sunscreen, doesn't leave a white cast. I was interested in the claim that it's suitable for sensitive skin types as I sometimes get that awful stingy feeling after applying some sunscreens. LRP has us sensitively-skinned folks covered with this one as I was able to take it right onto the eyelids without reacting!

I like the packaging as it's not bulky and the opening is small enough that you can control the flow. Some have said that the formula is uncontrollably runny, but I haven't found that to be the case.

In terms of price point, this one is very reasonable. I recently purchased another of the known fail-safe sunscreens from beauty reviewers (EltaMD) and paid at least ten dollars more for it.

The 50+ UVA/B protection seems to deliver. I was recently in the sun and my chest (where I had applied a different suncream) turned up red and my face was the same colour as when I left the house that morning!

Overall, I would purchase this product in the future and would have no qualms about recommending it to others. I just wish I'd started taking sun protection seriously years ago!

Tips: Give it time to sink in once you've applied but you'll have no issues layering this one under make up!
