In Love With This Product

I have reviewed quite a few face washes in my time and to be honest this has been the best one I have used in quite a long time! First off, I'm an oily individual - my face creates quite a bit of oil and by the end of the day the amount of oil that appears on the surface of my face - you could use it to do some cooking. It's pretty gross. I have noticed that since using this face wash (and the moisturiser that goes along with it) my face is not creating much oil at all. My make up by the end of the day has stayed on as well...definitely an added bonus.

In terms of the face wash itself, a little goes a long way. I am using the tiniest bit of product and it foams up quite a bit. It's a little bit drying but to be honest I feel that this is beneficial as it helps control the natural oils on your skin. There is a slight scent, hard to describe. It's not overpowering, it sort of has a "clean" smell to it. Not chemically, just an average facial cleaner smell I guess. Because you don't need much I can see this is going to last a rather long time. In the past couple of weeks I haven't even used a quarter of it - and I've been using it two times a day.

Will I use it again? Heck yeah! It ticks all the boxes to be a standout facial cleanser that has definitely made its way into my beauty routine. I will be using it again for sure!!!!

Tips: Don't need much product at all to clean your face

La Roche Posay Effaclar Foaming Gel Reviews

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar Micro-Peeling Gel Cleanser is made of thermal spring water which La Roche Posay claim will rehydrate and provide calm your skin. I found it easy to use from the squeeze tube and I little was enough to wash my face and neck with a foamy lather. It cleaned my face easily and no greasiness was experienced and made my face feel effectively cleaned.

The product had a subtle fragrance but as I am using it in the shower it did not make a difference. I found that my face was left refreshed and ready to apply my moisturiser. However, it just so happened that I had a bit of break out over my face during the same time I started using the product. I can’t say that it was due to the use of the product or that it was coincidental (rarely get breakouts).

The product was really easy to use and has a flip cap that seals easily, I have taken the product with me on travelling and had no spillage. The easy to use squeeze tube was ideal for a facewash. The product itself is watery and light and spreads easily. It fits in easily with my lifestyle and thought it was a great addition to the rest of my La Roche products. A little bit does a go a long way and using it every morning and night I expect the product to last for a few months.

The product is targeted for people with oily, blemish or/and acne-prone skin. The foaming body and facial wash are specially formulated for persistent and stubborn imperfections. Currently, it is far and in between that I have breakouts, but still find that this was a great product. Retails for between $28 and $35 for 200ml. It is quite expensive for a face wash. However, I could feel the removal of dead skin cell and have unclogged my pores and it left my skin soft, clean and refreshed.

Tips: I would recommend the product for someone with acne or problems with blackheads

A great cleanser for oily skin!

This gel cleanser left my skin feeling soft and fresh, very clean. I even tested it by using a soft white cotton pad on my skin afterwards, and no make up residue was left behind!

I'm slowly getting on to the soap-free train, so was impressed how clean my skin was without soap. I have oily skin and have been using the same cleanser for some time, but starting to feeling that my skin isn't getting thoroughly cleaned. Often when I use a toner afterwards, I find traces of make-up on the cotton pad and have been looking for a better product. Really enjoyed discovering they gel cleanser, leaves my skin feel fresh and clean!

It comes in a medium size squeeze bottle that stands upright in the shower. The bottle retains it's shape so it's easy to squeeze, and has a narrow opening. You can definitely control the amount of product, in fact, the opening might be a bit small as I had to give it a good squeeze to get a small amount of product. Good size bottle and very good value as it's a high quality product and does a great job at cleaning without drying out the skin.

I didn't notice that the gel foamed up like a foaming hand soap, but it does lather up with water. Not sure I find that 'foaming' but I liked that the gel didn't feel sticky!

It was definitely a nice cleanser to use after a long day and wanting to remove my make up and clean my skin!

The only downside is the smell... it's very medicinal and earthy. I appreciate it's not scented, but I got used it to after 2 days and loving how my skin looks using it.

Definitely recommend as a daily cleanser and great for oily skin. It's hard to find cleansers that don't leave your skin feeling dried out, and this gel leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean!

Great gel cleanser

I was really excited about this product because it’s a great brand and I haven’t used a gel cleanser in a while. I always used to use gel cleansers and loved them but have been trying a lot of different kinds recently so it was interesting to go back to gel.

I like the packaging of this product but one comment I would make is that the hole in the tube is super small so only a small amount comes out. I guess that’s a good thing because you don’t use too much but just a preference for me would be for the product to come out easier.

I really liked the feel of this product. It isn’t sticky and still feels substantial on your skin - like it’s actually serving a purpose. My skin felt super clean and also brighter, which is a massive plus for me with super dull skin this time of year.

I will definitely continue using this product, but I probably won’t buy it again in the future because I think I’ve been converted to oil cleansers instead. Overall, though, great product and I didn’t experience any break outs while using it.

Gentle for sensitive skin

I received the 50ml travel/sample size version of this as a gift from a friend, and was curious to try this cleanser as I have never tried any products from this brand. The packaging is very simple and minimalistic; the foaming gel comes in a semi-transparent blue tube with white writing; it's nothing fancy. Most of the writing on the packaging isn't in English on my tube and is in French so there were no directions to follow and it was hard to tell what the product promoises to do or if I was using it correctly. The gel is clear in colour and it has a very clinical sort of smell to it; it does remind be a bit of hospitals lol! I think perhaps the idea is to not add excessive fragrance to a face product which I understand but I'm not really a fan of the scent. The gel is very nice and cooling on the skin, so it makes for a good summer cleanser. A little of this goes a long way, only a small amount of the gel is needed as it truly does foam up really well. I am impressed by this as I only have a mini version of the product; yet it has been lasting me for a while as I only need to use a tiny amount each time. The cleanser is very gentle, and I have sensitive skin so I enjoyed how gentle it was, and found it didn't irritate my skin or give me any breakouts. It does say it's for oily skin and I have dry skin these days, so I cannot comment if it helps deal with oily skin. It is not super drying though, as this did not exacerbate my dry skin so I do think anyone could use this regardless of skin type. I have found this cleanser to work well, and I have noticed less acne breakouts since using this, so I think it is doing an excellent job as a cleanser. It isn't the most amazing cleanser I have tried, or the most affordable, but it does the job well and keeps acne at bay. I would recommend this to those with sensitive skin who want a gentle cleanser, and who suffer from mild acne. I would happily use this again, particularly if it was on sale. Overall though, this is a good cleanser, and while it's not mind-blowing or my favourite, it's a reliable product.

Soft skin after treatment

I found the Effaclar gel excellent. The 200 ml will go a long way as you only need small amount (5 cent piece squirt) in one use. My skin definitely feels softer, less oily and as a result I have had less acne after using this product. Acne does dry out quicker which is great. The smell is fresh and subtle, so not too offensive while using. The alcohol-free, colourant-free is a plus too. I did find a little tingling of my skin after use and as I have combination skin, I did get dry patches on my face, particularly on and around my nose and cheeks.

Tips: Take the time to massage the gel well so it foams around paricularly oily places - the T-zone (around the nose, fore head, chin.

It really works!

I have an oily face but it can can be sensitive to harsh chemicals. This product worked so well. The squeeze bottle is easy to use. There is no strong perfume smell and it washes off all my makeup. The best part is that my skin stayed that way, there was no over drying or oil build up a couple of hours later. It has cleared up most of the adult acne too!

Tips: Use morning and night.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Foaming Gel

One of the first things I noticed was the strong scent which seemed quite artificial. I didn’t really mind it, but I think it might be a deal breaker for a lot of people. I also noticed that it tastes gross… then I wondered do I accidentally eat all of my cleansers in the shower and this one just tastes especially bad?

I like the nice packaging (sucker for packaging), and I did like that it lathers quite well (doesn’t foam excessively), and is easy to wash off. Plus it definitely gets all my make up off in the evenings when I use it in the shower, so it made my face feel super clean. My face didn’t feel dry after using it, but only after I’d used quite a bit of moisturiser. I was a bit worried that because it foams it might be slightly drying, so I preferred just using it once a day. ‘Gentle’ isn’t really a word I’d immediately associate with it, but it didn’t seem to strip my skin or make it flake or peel though, so my concerns were probably unfounded.

I didn’t really see a difference in terms of how much acne I had or the texture or brightness of my skin overall, so that was a bit disappointing as I had high expectations.

It is a decent cleanser and doesn’t really do anything ‘wrong’, but I think I was just expecting more from this product after all of its claims. For the price, there are plenty of other products that work as well if not better. I think I’ll bring this product back out in Summer when my skin’s a little less prone to naturally drying out.

Tips: Start by using once a day, then increase it to twice a day if you feel it's working well for you.

A good all-rounder

I've really enjoyed trialling the Effaclar Foaming Gel cleanser.

I like the packaging (blue tube, not white as pictured) which is simple and no frills, but not in a cheap way - it's clean, elegant, very functional, easy to use, and feels very sturdy. It has a mild scent, fairly floral with chemical undertones. I'm not a fan of any scent in facial products so it's a mark against it for me, but it's subtle enough that I can stand it.

I really love the consistency - a little product goes a long way and it lathers up to a lovely rich foam. Applying the product feels great - the dense foam feels smooth and buttery being massaged into the skin.

It leaves skin feeling very clean and soft, although I find it quite drying. Although my skin is oily, if I dry it out too much it will overcompensate by producing even more oil, so I definitely need to pair this cleanser with a rich moisturiser to balance it.

All in all, I'm happy with it - it's lovely to use and is a very effective cleanser.

Tips: Leaves skin feeling a little stripped and dry, so be sure to pair it with a rich moisturiser.

La Roche Posey Cleanser

I'm always a bit skeptical when something claims to eliminate excess sebum, simply because in my experience it's never really worked. Though I must say this product was pleasantly surprising - I found that my skin remained relatively matte throughout the day, especially on my nose.

Gel cleansers are my go to typically, as I find anything else is not as effective on me. Foaming cleansers dry my skin out and aren't great for makeup removal, likewise cream cleansers are great for makeup removal on me and they tend to make my skin oilier. So the concept of a cleanser that was both a gel and foaming one at that was quite intriguing. My past experience with foaming cleansers did leave me with somewhat low expectations, but this product ticked all the boxes for what I look for in a cleanser.

• it smelt nice - it has a faint scent which is quite sweet smelling. I can't quite pinpoint the exact smell. • you can be frugal with it - a little does go along way with this and even though it's a decent sized product, for someone like me who cleanses twice when washing their face (2 cleanses twice a day = 4), this quickly adds up. So knowing a product is going to last makes it worthwhile. • aesthetically pleasing - the packaging isn't anything groundbreaking, but it's simple yet eye catching, especially the shade of blue used. It's also opaque at the top and gradually becomes transparent which is real handy in being able to see how much is left in the tube. • affordable - even though I was sent this as a trial product, I'd happily repurchase. It's RRP at $27.99 and it may seem hefty at first, but it's a 200ml product that even with frequent use, will still last a decent amount of time. I've used mine religiously for almost 2 weeks now (that's 54 washes) and have only used about 2 centimetres of product. • effectiveness - initially there were some breakouts, which is to be expected when trying something new and your skin needs to adjust. Since then, I've noticed that my skin stays matte for at least 12 hours, with my usual products I'm shiny by lunch. My skin is also smoother and I have noticed a difference in texture - legitimately my skin has never felt softer. I also have issues with hyperpigmentation and some mild acne scarring and I've seen that these aren't as noticeable, so I hope that over a long period of time they will fade. • gentle on my skin - like aforementioned, I've not had great results with foaming cleansers, so the fact that this didn't dry my skin out and made my skin feel parched was a plus. I have a VERY dry patch of skin on my left eye that haunts me persistently and I didn't find this aggravated it or accentuated it at all.

Although 2 weeks isn't an awfully long time to devote to a product before giving an opinion, I'd gladly say that within this 2 weeks that this product had proved it's potential and worth. I'd be more than willing to add this to my daily regime and can definitely see this becoming a go to product.

Tips: You don't need too much product at all, a pea size amount will suffice.
