    Not my favourite toothpaste

I’ve used Red Seal for vitamins but this is the first time I’ve tried their toothpaste. I like their focus on natural ingredients.

The packaging is simple and looks stylish for a toothpaste. I like the idea of baking soda, as a coffee drinker my teeth tend to get stained quite easily.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste- it’s not as minty as Colgate or sensydyne. I didn’t see much difference difference with the stains on my teeth and it didn’t make my teeth/ breath feel as fresh as my usual toothpaste.

Unfortunately this toothpaste isn’t for me. I will stick with my usual Colgate from now on.

    Red Seal Baking Soda Toothpaste

I got a couple of the ‘baking soda’ toothpastes when the red seal range came on sale. As you already may have heard of the great uses of baking soda as a household cleanser for removing stains, this was the reason i decided to try this baking soda toothpaste on my stubborn yellowish teeth.

Not sure if it’s because i have big teeth, but after using a whole tube of this paste (Brushing twice a day), i didn’t notice any significant difference. And no surprise, the taste was just like what it said it was, like ‘baking soda’.

Although the taste was quite unique.. i didn’t totally dislike it... and eventually.. I got so use to the taste that i didn’t even notice the baking soda taste anymore... Although there’s none of that minty after brush, It feels like you’re using toothpaste with less chemicals (feels more natural). I will definitely repurchase and try it for the long run, if it ever comes on special again. Hopefully i will eventually have nice white teeth ; D

    Does the job

This is a good toothpaste, I've bought it many times. I never noticed any additional whitening effects from the additional of baking soda in this paste but it always left my mouth and teeth feeling fresh and clean when used alongside brushing and rinsing. Red seal is competitively priced and I feel to be a quality brand.

    Interesting flavour

I have been using the Red Seal Baking Soda Toothpaste intermittently for a year. It has noticeably whitened my teeth and has a liquorice flavour. However, I've noticed that using it continuously for an extended period (such as two weeks) can make my gums/teeth feel sensitive. To address this sensitivity, I alternate between using this product for a few days (4 days max) and switch to a generic toothpaste (2 days).

Taste - 1.5/5 liquorice flavour Texture - 2/5 has a slight grit Breath - 2/5 mid day I feel like I need to brush my tongue or have a minty.

Tips: Switch often with another toothpaste.

    Red Seal Baking Soda Toothpaste

I recently tried out this toothpaste as I had heard lots of hype about it making teeth whiter. I liked this product as it is New Zealand made product, and appears more natural than other tooth pastes. It comes in regular toothpaste tube packaging. The tooth paste did a good job, my teeth felt really clean afterwards, however the taste of this tooth paste was quite unpleasant and tastes a lot like baking soda. After a couple of months of using this tooth paste and putting up with the yuck taste I decided it did not make my teeth any whiter. The toothpaste itself was good for cleaning teeth, but the taste is too off putting for my liking.

    Nz Made

I really love the idea of this toothpaste being all natural and NZ made and I have used it and I felt it worked well but after speaking to a dentist I was put off due to it missing crucial elements that are needed in an effective toothpaste.

    Horrible!

I was drawn to this toothpaste because it has no nasty chemicals in it and is natural. Whilst I am no stranger to chemicals in my beauty products, I wanted to try this out after my boyfriends sister hyped it up to me.

The price point is excellent as it is within most people's budgets. The packaging is pretty standard and there is nothing outstanding (good or bad), that I feel I should mention.

However... The taste of this was absolutely abhorrent. In all fairness, I have an extreme aversion to the taste of baking soda due to a childhood incident of eating a teaspoon of it. I'm scarred for life haha. When I was told about this, I asked if it tasted like baking soda and was assured it didn't. Maybe my taste buds are primed to detect this vile tasting ingredient or something, because I could definitely taste it!!! I could taste a slight minty/herby taste but the overwhelming flavour was baking soda UGHHHHH. Based solely on that I absolutely wouldn't ever purchase this again. I tried to force myself to use the tube up but only managed to get 1/3 of the way through it before purchasing another toothpaste.

Disgusting taste aside, this did leave my teeth feeling clean and fresh. I felt like it did the job but didn't do anything above and beyond what it's supposed to do.

If you aren't phobic of baking soda and are looking for a more natural alternative to toothpaste then I giess I recommend giving it a go. It's hard for me to recommend it just because the memories of using this makes me want to gag haha. But like I mentioned above, that is purely because of a traumatic childhood incident regarding baking soda.

Tips: Don't accept dares to eat a teaspoon of baking soda. It will legitimately scar you for life.

    Ineffective

I've previously used Red Seal toothpaste and wasn't a fan, but decided to give this version ago after receiving it from someone else. I know of baking soda as a whitener so thought this may be more effective than the standard variety.

This has a particularly strong baking soda taste compared to other toothpastes I have tried and I found it pretty unappealing. Like the standard herbal toothpaste it has a very gritty texture. It reminds me a lot of that gritty paste you get given at the dentist.

In terms of performance, I haven't noticed much difference in the few weeks I have been using it compared to my usual toothpaste except I have been experiencing more sensitivity but I'm not sure whether this is directly as an effect of the toothpaste or not.

I won't be repurchasing this again mainly based on it's lack of effective oral hygiene ingredients (yay fluoride!) but also because I just don't like it as a product itself.

    Didn't Like

I wanted to love this toothpaste because of the all natural ingredients but after about 5 days it dried out my lips and inside my mouth so I had to stop using it.

It does have a gritty feel when using it which didn't really bother me but some might not like. It did clean my teeth but I wasn't able to use it long enough to find out how effective it is for whitening. The taste is unique and not like more traditional pastes.

    Would not use again personally.

    Minty not so much

Although it claims to have a powerful minty fresh taste I really don’t think it does. It has more of a baking sofa taste which made me feel a little sick ( I know it is baking soda paste but still thought it would be minty!). It made my mouth feel quite odd almost like it dried the inside of it out and didn’t provide a fresh taste or feel.
