A'kin Daily Shine Shampoo

A bit of background first:

I have Psoriasis on my scalp, the kind where you end up peeling your skin off like scales on a fish that can end up extending down onto my face, so I normally have to use a special anti-dandruff shampoo or soak my scalp in Jojoba oil prior to washing. This unfortunately normally causesa little agitation on my scalp as well as a bit of damage to my hair but it was the better option than having a bleeding dry scalp as it did offer some relief

I wanted to join this trial as I was seeking a Jojoba based product (as I've had good results using itbfor my scalp massages) that also did not contain the sulphates that normally exacerbate my skin condition while not leaving me smelling like a donkey after using it

I am extraordinarily happy to report that not only did my poor sensitive skin not have any reactions, but my scalp is currently almost completely clear of dandruff/scales and have been able to reduce the number of my scalp treatments using oil

For this trial I did stop using the "Donkey" shampoo to see if it could replace it entirely and I think we have a winner and there's still plenty left in the bottle to go

So in summary, no sensitivity reactions, a reduction in an already existing skin condition, it still cleaned my hair, I've had less "fuzz" after using it and I don't smell....wonkey.....

I normally use a rosehip oil to finish it off but as I'm typing this review I'm noticing mention of a hair mask which I'm now tempted to try after the success of this trial

My hair is most definitely smoother as a result and if I can figure out where to get it from I will definitely be buying and using again, very happy customer trial ending

If you can get past the pungent smell it really does deliver on its promise for shiny hair!

At first glance the packaging is very plain and no-frills, the muted colours and clear bottle do not stand out - perhaps would be easily overlooked on a shelf. I must add it is a generous size at 375ml.

When opening the A’kin shampoo the smell is overpowering, unfortunately it smelt like tea tree oil and reminded me of head lice treatment. The shampoo itself is a clear jelly texture, thicker than normal shampoo more like a hair gel. When applied to hair the shampoo does not lather or bubble, assuming due to its sulphate & silicone free ingredients.

After rinsing my hair felt noticeably soft and silky straight away! The package does promise this after just one wash so I am very impressed that it delivered.

I highly recommend to anyone who loves natural alternatives or is seeking sleek and shiny hair.

When applying A'kin Daily Shine Shampoo I found very minimal lather in the first wash, during the repeat wash the shampoo lathered well and also rinsed out no problems.

Unfortunately, I found the citronella aroma a little bit overpowering (reminded me of mosquito coils!). Though once I’d dried my hair, the aroma wasn’t overpowering.

I have long, fine hair and really struggle to find a great shampoo. I did find my hair was left nice and smooth, it was not quite tangle free (which is usual for my hair).

I like that the bottle was tall and slim, which meant it took up less room in my shower.

Akin Daily Shine Shampoo is formulated with Australian Jojoba Oil, Yerba Mate and Niacinamide to deeply nourish and impart maximum shine. It is 100% vegan and I love that it is free of chemicals and also contains no nasties such as sulphate and silicon . It comes packaged in a tall plastic bottle which to be honest looks pretty hohum. I would prefer if it was in a tube; more practical for gym bags and for travelling. It is however 100% recyclable. I have fine hair which is naturally wavy. The humidity in Auckland coupled with my regular gym and swimming sessions leaves me with hair that needs some extra TLC. I also have my hair coloured and highlighted every three months and this coupled with blow drying and heated irons means I need a shampoo that is big on hydration. On applying the shampoo to my hair I could immediately smell the botanical extracts of geranium, cedarwood and patchouli. It lathered into a liquid that easily lifted away the sweat, oil and chlorine buildup leaving my hair really clean. There was no straw like feel that I have experienced with other shampoos. A’kin states that it may take up to four weeks for hair to adjust and to start seeing the benefits of their natural hair care, however, my hair has never felt so clean and manageable even after less than two weeks of use. My hair is soft, shiny and, wonder of wonders, the frizz has gone. Even the texture seems to have changed with my hair looking more full and less weighed down. This shampoo has really suited my hair type. Using the conditioner in conjunction has given me hair that no longer exhibits the dullness that comes with old age. So pleased!

Loved this shampoo! It comes in a sleek looking tall, skinny bottle. The shampoo is a clear colour and quite thick. I really like the way it feels like it is really deep cleaning my hair. It lathers up really well and has a nice subtle smell to it. Overall, I really like this one

I love trying out new shampoo so when I got an invite for this trial I was excited. It comes in a very generous size bottle with a pop up lid. I had a look and it is around the twenty dollar mark. I usually just buy supermarket shampoo so it's a bit more than I'd usually pay but if it is amazing I would definitely purchase myself.

It smells really nice, quite herbal. It reminds me of something but i can't think of what it is....it's a familiar smell. Consistency wise it is gluggy. It sort of splodges out lol. It is clear in colour.

I always shampoo twice, the first to remove any product and the second to make sure my hair is clean. It lathers up really well and I was impressed that I had hardly any colour washout.

My hair definitely felt clean and it washed out easy. I obviously used this together with the matching conditioner. Once dry my hair looked good however it wasn't as soft as I was expecting. It is a nice shampoo but it doesn't wow me or do anything better than a standard shampoo does.

The bottle for this shampoo comes in a long skinny shape - which looks aesthetically pleasing but the plastic is kind of hard, so it makes it somewhat hard to squeeze out as the shampoo itself is almost gel-like in consistency. The smell is divine - Geranium, Cedarwood & Patchouli - which gives it a lovely woody floral scent.

The application is weird - it doesn't lather as much, and it feels drying and kind of unsatisfying. It does however do a very good deep clean.

After using in conjunction with the matching conditioner - I am not sure it looks shinier yet, but it definitely feels softer.

I was asked to review this shampoo followed by the conditioner. I decided not to read the ingredients first and try and see if I could guess the scent, most shampoos are either floral or fruity scent, this was not either, at first smell I thought it was tea tree oil, but once reading the bottle I discovered it was actually jojoba and yerba mate ( what even IS that?) And also geranium cedarwood and patchouli. I must admit, I did NOT like the smell at all, but thankfully it did not linger after washing my hair. I was very impressed by the big 375 ml bottles, you get a very generous amount of shampoo, and with just me using it, it's likely to last months. It took two washes for me to notice the shine of my hair but it was certainly there, and my hair has been much calmer and manageable with far less frizz, in fact I have only used my hair straightener once since using this shampoo. Would I use it again? Yes. An added bonus is the bottles are a good shape and don't all over in the shower!

Normally, I'm a once-a-week shampoo girl as I have thick curly hair which styles better with minimum washes, but I wanted to make sure I gave this product a thorough testing. I'm also embracing my natural grey colouring and needed help in the shine department, so I was really keen to see if this actually does help in that regards. I'm thrilled to say, that yes, it does! My hair also feels softer and more manageable throughout the week, which it never has with other shampoos. The scent is also subtle but really gorgeous.

The packaging is simple and effective, reflecting the natural products it uses perfectly.

The only slight negative thing I have to say about it is that it doesn't lather up nicely. I thought perhaps it was the sheer thickness of my hair, but it didn't lather up during a second shampoo application either. But that did mean it was quicker to wash out.

Overall, a really nice product that I'd be very happy to buy and use again.

The shampoo comes in a tall 375ml cylinder shaped bottle with a push cap lid. The bottle and cap are made with 100% recycled plastic.

The shampoo bottle has instructions of use, an ingredient list and loads more information on the product.

I have long, thick hair. I simply wet my hair and massage the shampoo into scalp and hair. Then rinse thoroughly and follow up with A'kin Daily Shine Conditioner.

I am not a fan of the shampoo fragrance, but my scalp and hair feel clean. The shampoo does not weigh my hair down.

The first time using, I didn't like the feel of the shampoo with one application. So, the second time using, I washed my hair twice and it felt much better applying, during and after.

I have not noticed an increase of shine or added smoothness with my hair yet. But will keep using and hopefully see a change.
