What a system!

I've always had to wash my hair every second day, so when I had the chance to try this shampoo as part of the Extraordinary Clay range I was really excited and hopeful I would 'get away' without washing so frequently.

Initially the clay pre wash masque was like a refreshing, cooling, rejuvenation for my scalp. The shampoo with a subtle scent gave a fantastic lather and bubbles which is important for me with thick hard to control hair.

The moment of truth, once I dried was clean and easy to straighten hair. The best bit though was NOT needing to wash my hair the second day- a tiny amount of the dry shampoo and I was good to go. I am absolutely sold and will be purchasing again

Tips: I thinned down the pre wash masque with a tiny amount of water to make it go further and easier to apply

Doesn't put the Extra in Extraordinary but lovely

I was super excited to try this New Elvive Extraordinary Clay range for oily roots and dry ends but for me these products, the Detox clay mask, Pre-shampoo treatment, the shampoo and conditioner and the dry shampoo didn't impress me all that much. However, I liked the fact that after massaging the clay mask into my roots for about 5 minutes before showering, the pre-shampoo mask actually felt like it absorbed excess oils and impurities in my hair. The flip for instructions were easy to follow on the lid of the container. It had a nice texture, fresh scent and it was easy to apply to my roots. I found it took awhile to wash the mask fully off in the shower but eventually the water ran clear. Following on, I cleansed and hydrated with the shampoo and the conditioner. Both of which, smelt pleasant and refreshing. I only needed a small amount of each. The shampoo lathered up quite a lot and the conditioner was a silky texture and seemed to make my hair feel softer. After shampooing and conditioning, I rinsed my hair and it felt quite clean, not really any different to usually but I did notice my roots, scalp and dry ends did feel fresher and cleaner. After towel drying my hair, I sprayed in some of the dry shampoo and combed it through my hair and I was able to skip a day or two washing my hair after using it. It was quite good to spray in my hair every now and again for freshening up between washes. The product in each bottle and container seemed to last me quite a few washes. The Detox clay mask, I used quite a generous amount of each time I used it so that was quick to deminish out of all four products in this range. I liked the packaging of the products, the aqua, teal colours added to the fresh look and appealed to me. I thought this range was lovely although I probably wouldn't purchase it myself to try again as I found it didn't impress me as much as I thought it would.

Tips: The Detox clay mask Pre-shampoo treatment takes awhile to wash out and you do need to apply a generous amount. Make sure to rinse it completely. ;)

L'Oreal Paris ELVIVE Extraordinary Clay Range

I was sent the range to review, and I was super excited to try the products - the description pretty accurately sums up my hair situation, but I was sceptical as I’ve never really had great luck at combating the problem long term.

I loved the idea of a clay mask for hair, however I wasn’t sure how to apply it so ended up putting it on my roots like I would if I was dyeing my hair (however usually a friend would do this so it felt weird to try doing it myself!). I’d like if it said how often to apply it, or even a rough guide of exactly how much I should be applying. It’s not really practical to use it every time. When I was washing it out, I never actually saw the product being washed out like the instructions said I would - it made me wonder if I was using enough, or getting rid of it all. It made my hair feel super soft after it was washed out, but then the shampoo left a too squeaky clean feeling which was kind of a bummer. Overall, I didn’t really notice it doing anything, or a difference in the days after using it before the other products, compared to going straight to the shampoo.

The shampoo leaves me with that too squeaky clean feeling. Other than that, it feels like any other run of the mill shampoo, as does the conditioner. You don’t need a lot of either product each time which is great, I found myself squeezing out too much conditioner the first couple of times I used it (I think because of the bottle design). I also found I was left with the same amount of time where my hair felt good enough not to rewash it - every day or every second day at most, which was quite disappointing.

I generally wash my hair at night, then blow dry it until it’s at least semi-dry. I’m not going to try the dry shampoo the morning after I wash it - that would defeat the purpose of even washing it. And I’m not going to start washing my hair in the morning either, I like sleep too much. So I only used the dry shampoo a couple of times, however I found I ended up washing my hair about as frequently as I was before - every second day usually. I really liked that the dry shampoo didn’t leave a residue, however I’m not sure if it actually worked as well as my usual dry shampoo go to anyway.

Overall, I wasn’t as impressed with the range as I hoped I would be. Love the scent of the shampoo and conditioner (it’s a bit overwhelming in the dry shampoo even though it is the same scent), and the sleek packaging of all 4 products. Each product worked okay on its own and together (and didn’t make my hair any worse), but it wasn’t a fix to my oily hair issues. I found they left it in basically the same condition as most other products do. I don’t think I’d buy the range again as there are cheaper alternatives. I was hoping for more - the best features were the scent and the novelty of the hair mask. I felt I could sub in a different shampoo/conditioner with the rest of the range and I’d get the same results.

Ho hum

I was really excited to try this range as I'm always looking for products to manage my fine, super oily hair. Overall I've come away from the trial period with mixed feelings.

With my normal shampoo and conditioner I wash my hair every second day, but on my no-wash days I sometimes need to top up with a bit of dry shampoo in the morning, and I ALWAYS need dry shampoo if I'm going out in the evening of my no-wash day. With the Extraordinary Clay range I found that I never needed dry shampoo on that second day, so it's a big win for me there. But overall I don't feel like the whole range lives up to the claims.

I also don't love how much the scent lingers. It's not an awful scent, in fact I kind of like it, but I strongly prefer hair products that don't leave a scent in my hair at all and this range definitely leaves a fairly strong and persistent smell, which is somewhat 'chemical' ish.

The mask requires such a large amount of product to get much coverage that it feels incredibly wasteful. The instructions also weren't particularly clear whether the mask was supposed to be used before every wash, or as a less regular treatment, so I was a bit confused on that front. When you use the mask it does reduce the amount of shampoo you need to use to get a huge amount lather, though - you do need just the teeny tiniest amount, so that's a bonus.

I wasn't thrilled by the dry shampoo - it's much better than some I've used, but it's nowhere near as good as Batiste so I'll be giving it a miss. It was easy to use and did leave hair looking clean, but just didn't add the same volume or last quite as long as I'd like.

Most of the work in getting that second day to be oil free for me seems to be done by the shampoo, so it would definitely be my keeper of the range. It's quite foamy so I use probably half the amount as I would of normal shampoo (or quarter of the amount if I'm using it after the mask). My only complaint is that it's far too harsh for my tips and the conditioner just doesn't do enough to counter that. On day 2 my tips start getting dry and angry, and if I use dry shampoo to stretch things out to day 3 then my tips are a gnarled mess. However, I like the shampoo enough that I'm probably going to shop around to see if I can find a better conditioner or treatment to pair with it and hopefully counteract the effects.

Which leads me on to the conditioner. It was nice enough for the first day, but as noted above by the 2nd and 3rd day it wasn't having much effect on my tips and things were looking pretty mangled. However, whatever the temptation may be: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH. Trust me, just don't! In an attempt to counter the drying effect of the shampoo I tried using extra conditioner and the product was so incredibly heavy in my hair it hung lank and heavy and just was not a fun experience.

Overall, I might repurchase the shampoo if I can find a solution for the dry tips, but I wouldn't be repurchasing the rest of the range.

Evenally Split

The products were beautifully presented in mint green packaging, they have a pleasant fragrance and for the most part have a great texture. Standouts: I found the shampoo and conditioner were the only products that worked for my hair. They complimented each other well. Dislikes: The Detox Clay mask and the Dry Shampoo were a bit of a waste of time for me. They didn't do what they said it would and actually ended up making my hair feel and look oilier. All in all I did enjoy testing the products and will continue to use the shampoo and conditioner

Can't fault!

Thank you BR for selecting me for this trial! A little background of my personal third-world hair problems..my hair gets extremely oily on top, my hair is thin/limp & my ends are dry - hence I wash & condition my hair daily to keep these things at bay. That means, blow drying & hair straightening everyday too which is all just time consuming & costly. To finally have a range specifically made for oily roots & dry ends, to me, is kind of a big deal!

This range includes a Detox Clay Mask Pre-Shampoo Treatment; Rebalancing Shampoo; Detox Conditioner & Dry Shampoo. I won't divulge into too much detail of each product because we have to review each product individually but more review them as a range.

They are all packaged with the same coloured bottles & slightly darker mint/green lid & all in your typical shampoo/conditioner solid packaging. They all have the same scent too which is a nice refreshing scent which isn't too strong.

These products claim to give you 72hours of fresh & lightweight roots, scalp feels balanced and ends are hydrated. I found that on day 3, my scalp still felt "dry", my ends & top did look a little bit limp - but neither looked dirty. The dry shampoo worked a treat (which I've never experienced with any other dry shampoo), just a spray all over my roots as directed, waiting a couple of minutes before brushing through, styling & my hair looked fresh as the first day of washing - so much so I had no anxiety about leaving the house with my hair down! Oh and I have to mention how shiny my hair still looked.

Overall this range has definitely surprised me, over 15 years of living with oily roots & dry ends I was kind of sceptical about it having not found any product that lived up to their claims! I definitely recommend this range.

Tips: Can't think of anything specific except follow the instructions on the packaging & if you feel like you should shampoo & wash just leave it - the dry shampoo will sort it out (based on my personal experience).

The perfect solution for oily hair and scalps.

The range consists of 4 products - when used together the result is shiny, light feeling hair without the oil build up around your scalp - and it stays this way for days. The range all has a a similar smell - the only one that is a tad more earthy smelling is the mask.

I love the idea of a mask for your scalp. Yes it's messy and a tad tricky to apply, but you use it prior to showering so washing it off is easy. I blobbed it in sections over my head and massaged it into my roots with my finger tips and found that worked well. After 5 minutes it washed off easily in the shower.

The shampoo was thick and lathered well. I only shampooed once as I could feel that my hair and scalp were clean. Normally I shampoo twice using other shampoos but this worked a treat on the first go.

The conditioner I had doubts about - would my dry ends be well moisturised? Would I have to use half the bottle in one go? Yes and no - yes my ends were conditioned and no I didn't have to use much at all. I focused on the mid lengths to ends as directed and was impressed with the result.

After the 3 products I was easily able to comb out my hair. After letting my hair air dry I styled as usual. My head felt lighter - i get headaches which I think is from the weight of my long hair but it amazingly felt a tonne lighter. I also had a lot more root lift that I dont usually get even with freshly washed hair.

Skip forward 5 days and my hair was finally starting to get a little oily - a quick spritz of dry shampoo before bed and voila - another 2 days of oil free hair.

After 7 days I did feel my ends were a little dry, I used some hair oil on the ends and it was better. This could be drying on hair that isn't super oily, or even if over used, I don't think I'd use this range solely for my hair I would mix it up with another shampoo set and alternate them just two as not to overdry my hair and scalp.

Tips: My daughter has acne on her face, back and shoulders - I made her use these products as well as her hair is really greasy - she only used them once and her skin is looking heaps better which I think is from not having an oily mop of hair draped over it.

L'Oreal Extraordinary Clay Range!

A lot of products give big promises but i really do feel that my hair issues have improved now that I am using this range. Ive pretty much always had dry hair, that gets affected by humidity and ends up like a puff ball. Ive used the most hydrating products I can to combat It, but in also in the unfortunate position to have a very oily scalp! Kinda a dilemma there! But hang on to ya britches...I was able to review this range in its entirety and I'm like "what hair issue?" The pretreatment mask has a scent blend between a body shop body butter and earthy goodness. Its real in colour, however dried grey and hard-ish. You apply it to the scalp only before shampooing and its a good to google how to style your newly oil-less hair! It felt a bit thick in places so I adjusted the amounts to a thin application. Felt wierd on,fantastic to remove! Left my hair with a very dry, heavy feeling. I didnt like this But it soon softened once I shampooed.

The Shampoo - the bottle is too similar to the conditioner except sits upright. It has a really pleasant scent and texture, much thicker than the conditioner! A little goes a long way. It thoroughly cleansed and removed the preteatment After the mask and shampoo, my hair felt very stripped of moisture. I wondered if i had over done it,and wondered if i had any colour in my hair! Rest assured, my hair colour was the same!

The conditioner - as I said, quite similar to the shampoo but sits on its lid. Its also a lovely scent and texture, thinner than I was expecting but left my ends (which is where I concerntrated on) feeling very hydrated.

I love dry shampoos and have only recently been made aware of just how versatile they are! (Thanks to BRs cool article on them) . I over did it the first time I used it...instructions say to spray 15cms away from roots...nobody got time to measure that, obviously I underestimated the distance because I ended up with grey streaks! I use this product on the 2nd and 3rd day. It adds freshness and volume. Love it. I also love the size, I can throw it in my handbag!

Overall, I'm pretty rapt to have been able to review this range. I'm going to be repurchasing because I love feeling more in control of my hair, which gives me confidence. Ka pai L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Range!!

Tips: Dont be put off if it feels like its stripping your hair, its just soaking up that pesky oil! Do love your newly balanced hair texture...hydrated not oily! Use all of the products because it makes a different to the overall result. Dont spray dry shamps to close Dont another your hair in the mask...a light application is better Do enjoy feeling confident <3

A Winner!

Oily hair has been mine (and my mother's) problem always, so I was super excited to try this range.

In summary: Love the dry shampoo! Very effective compared to other brands I have used. Great for in between days (which you won't have many of when using this Clay range). Would also be a definite in the bag for a camping trip or when you know washing will be out for a period of time. Instant lift and revitalisation.

Clay Mask: A face pack for your head. I struggled to see the point of this product and have actually forgotten to use it last time I washed my hair....all wet in the shower and then I remembered it. Hard to judge if it works on its own merit because my hair did seem good on the day I forgot to use it anyway. Jury still out really on this aspect of the system.

Shampoo: Lovely smell and a little goes a long way. I use only one lather up and have great results - clean and oil free hair.

Conditioner: I am truely converted back to using a conditioner. Shiney hair and great feeling for days.

I have already recommended this range to my mum. It is effective, affordable and a revelation for my hair. Results are long lasting and I have had three days of oil free hair before I felt the need to wash again. Thank you L'Oreal for creating a system that solves my specific hair issues.

Tips: Use the entire range for best results. It is inexpensive and very effective.

Amazing range overall

This was such an exciting range to try out and one that I am thoroughly glad I go to try out since I have such oily hair. The element of clay was very odd at first but I am extremely impressed by how each product worked. I'd classify my hair as having oily roots and pretty limp and dry ends and finding a shampoo and conditioner has always been hard as you don't really get much offer at the drugstore that targets both let alone oily hair. I'd recommend the shampoo and conditioner as a duo for sure and to use the mask if you feel like you have exceptionally oily roots since it's a pre shampoo mask that does sorta help get the oil out as well as give it volume. I've found that during the Winter time I'm fine with just the shampoo and conditioner and just using the dry shampoo every other day.

Tips: Least favourite product is definitely the dry shampoo and would 100% recommend the shampoo itself.
