Deep-cleansing oil melts impurities and make-up from skin.

Achieve ultra clean and healthy skin with the Double Cleanse regimen that begins with PreCleanse.

Thoroughly melt away layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual products that build-up on skin throughout the day with skin fortifying Olive, Kukui and Apricot oils.

Add water to transform this hydrophilic (water-loving) formula into a milky emulsion that easily rinses debris from the skin's surface, allowing your prescribed Dermalogica Cleanser to penetrate even further for professional cleansing results.

Formulated with conditioning Rice Bran and Vitamin E oils, this gentle blend can be used around the eye area to even remove waterproof mascara. Offers a deep cleansing ideal for even the most oily skin conditions. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colors

Dermalogica Precleanse Gets Off @ 90% of MakeUp!

I really wanted to try this since I had tried a few oil cleansers and this one was one of the better known ones. I double cleanse nightly and I wanted to see if this would out perform the more affordable cleansing oils I had. This cleansing oil is quite thin feels like oil until you rub it on your face and then it turns milky. Taking my makeup off with this was a breeze. It removed like 90% of my makeup on the first wash and then the rest one the second. The bonus with this oil cleanser is that I can use it to take off my eye makeup as well as it hardly stings my eyes but effectively removes my eyeliner. I washed my face twice with this and whatever didn't come off in the first round came off the second time. I usually have to use a separate eye makeup remover to get off my eye makeup and that's when I get off what's left of my lipstick but this got most of that off on the first wash and the second wash took the rest off. Now some oil cleansers leave an oily residue or film on your skin. This one doesn't, everything rinses off clean. The ingredients are caprylic/capric triglyceride, apricot kernel oil, PEG-40 sorbitan peroleate, vitamin e, borage oil, aleurites moluccana seed oil, rice bran oil, to-mato extract, tocopherol, sunflower seed oil, safflower seed oil, cetyl ethylhexanoate, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, decyl olive esters, dicaprylyl carbonate, citral, limonene, linalool, grapefruit peel oil, lavandula hybrida oil, cymbopogon schoenanthus oil, orange oil, lavender oil, mandarin orange peel oil, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben and butylparaben. So it does start off with some really nice natural ingredients but isn't all natural. While the performance of this cleansing oil is stellar, I think 67 bucks for 150mls at the time of this review is way more than what i would spend on a cleansing oil. If it was half that price I would purchase the larger bottle.

Tips: This cleansing oil is gentle enough to remove eye makeup and lipstick. First cleanse gets off most of your makeup, second round gets it all off. This cleansing oil is really pricey so if you're determined to get it wait till Dermalogica does a gwp or has a discount so you can get more for your buck.

Dermalogica Precleanse

I received this as a sample in a beauty subscription box and tried it a few times. Overall, it's effective, but I wouldn't go out of my way an purchase a full size bottle due to the price. I found the product to be quite oily on my skin which I didn't like. I think I'll stick to my cheap supermarket makeup wipes!

Cleansing Oil

I got a sample sachet of Dermalogica Precleanse, so I can't comment on full sized packaging. Precleanse is a deep-cleansing emulsifying oil that effectively removes excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, make-up and impurities from skin, including long-wear eyeliner pencil and 14hr long-wear lipstick. It claims to even remove waterproof mascara, but as I don't use waterproof mascara, I can't comment on whether it lives up to this promise or not. Applied just like any other oil cleanser (with dry hands, onto dry skin), this precleanse cleansing oil feels smooth and smells wonderful and it emulsifies into a light, milky consistency when a little water is added and massaged into the oil, before simply rinsing away.

Containing Apricot Kernel Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Tomato Extract, Sunflower Seed Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Lemon Extract, Grapefruit Peel Oil, Orange Oil, Lavender Oil and Mandarin Orange Peel Oil, it has a lovely, soothing citrusy-lavender scent. Unfortunately, it is not paraben free. It does contain Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben and Butylparaben.

Would I use it again? Probably not. Don't get me wrong, it's a great cleansing oil, I just wouldn't use it because I'm trying to move away from products containing parabens and this cleansing oil is also quite expensive compared to many others that I've tried. Would I recommend it? Yes. If it's possible for you to get your hands on a sample first, give it a go and see if you like it.

Tips: If you can, try before you buy.

Effective but with a downside

Precleanse does what it says it does - removes makeup really well as the first step in your cleansing routine. It doesn't clean your face (due to it's oil base) but it loosens up the makeup and improves the effectiveness of your cleanser. I won't use it again though, because the packaging & sales rep insisted it was great for sensitive skin, but it stings the area around my eyes so badly and makes them red - no way I could use it to remove eye make up. I know people who use it who don't have this problem though, I would just say if you have sensitive skin be a bit wary, maybe try the trial size first.

Tips: You need to follow it up with a cleanser, as it will leave residue and makeup on your face - it is meant to be the the first step before cleanser

Smells great, works ok

So the idea is that it dissolves the day away before you actually cleanse your face to allow your cleanser to work better. It's a clear oil that smells lovely. I found it didn't remove my mascara which wasnt even waterproof. When you are wearing a full face of makeup I don't think it gets it all off but then maybe I've just packed on too much foundation? It does seem a little pointless to me and I haven't noticed any long term difference to my skin. I bought a huge bottle as it seemed more economical and I really, really wanted it to be the perfect product. I was really taken in and sold by the wording 'melt away layers' so i think I had over rated it before I had even really tried it. I still use it- mainly when I have sunscreen and makeup to remove, I hope it is helping the process but I can't honestly say it is fantastic. Good product but not great- don't skimp on groceries just to afford to buy it.

Tips: If you put too much on your eyes it can go in and everything gets blurry! It goes away and I haven't noticed that it stings.

Dermalogica Precleanse

The first time I go into David Jones and ended up at the Dermalogica stand because I've always been curious. After an analysis, I ended up with one of these to include as part of my daily cleansing routine. Fortunately most of the products recommended to me were available in travel sizes so I got to try these with less of a commitment if they didn't work out. The pre-cleanse is an oil that you apply to your face at the start of cleaning to dissolve the dirt and make up in preparation for cleaning. I wet my face first and then used a couple of drops and smeared it over my face and then you wash it off with warm water. I'm pretty happy about using this as the product does loosen up makeup which is always awesome at the end of the day. It's pretty good stuff.

Tips: Buy the travel size.

Average product for a big price tag

I started using the Dermalogica brand a year ago and went all in by buying various products including this precleanse. It’s an oil based cleanser and is to be used before the gel cleanser / face wash. I used this to remove my makeup and was quite disappointed with the product. It definitely did not remove my makeup and had to be reapplied to actually do the job. I personally don’t think it’s worth the price and have found cheaper products do a better job… Dermalogica is an amazing brand and I love all their other products - but this one unfortunately won’t be repurchased by me.

Tips: Use a cotton wool pad when applying - may need to reapply to get full effect.

Not that impressed.

I won this as part of a package and couldn't wait to try this nearly cult product. To be honest though, I wasn't that impressed. You are supposed to massage into the skin and then moisten and massage further before rinsing off. The liquid is clear and oily feeling, although on application it felt more 'silicony' to me. Then you are supposed to use your usual cleanser. I am a big fan of the double cleanse system when I wear makeup and usually use plain aqueous cream. The same way as you are advised to use the Precleanse. So moisten face, add aqueous cream, massage in and then rinse off. When I do this, the second cleanse removes very little extra off my face, however I like to ensure that every last scrap is gone. After using Precleanse, there was quite a lot of makeup still to remove with the second cleanse. I feel for the price of this product, it should do a better job, so would not recommend this to anyone, and will not purchase.

Tried it out, and hated it

Not sure if it's just me, but I felt this was the most pointless thing ever! I felt as if it did nothing, and left an oily texture on my face (which I personally hate) then you have to wash your face again... you could totally just skip this step and just go straight to your cleanser.

Tips: Don't waste your money, but if you do get it, I suggest that you rub the product real well into your skin.

Hey there, The purpose of the precleanse is to take off make up before you cleanse your skin. It shouldn't leave your skin oily at all.. Did your skin health expert show you the correct way of using this product? Check my tip out above :-)
