Lip stain that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, long-wearing, and utterly addictive!

Ah MaH zing!

Love Love Love these velventines, I am just one of those lipstick wearers that no matter what the lipstick in gone in 1.5 seconds Not with these, finally something that lasts a little longer, it is a bit drying but still makes my lips look nice.

the only thing i struggle with now is that the creator of limecrime has questionable business ethic and are not shi[[ing to suppliers in NZ at the moment and with the scare over security on the website- I will not order from there, still three that i want cashmere, wicked and suedeberry

Mind........BLOWN!!

I managed to swipe one of these babies in Utopia with the help of a lovely BR lady who went halvies on shipping! My cherry has officially been popped when it comes to the much talked about Lime Crime velvetines. I got it on sale so am happy I didn't have to pay the earth for it, although $19.90 is still the most I have ever paid for a lipstick so I hoped that it better live up to the expectations I had!

I love that it has an application wand because it makes it that much easier to apply it evenly and perfectly. The tube is uber cute! You can see the colour clearly through the glass and the lid is roses which is signature Lime Crime so you know it's the real thing and so eye catching! For $19.90 I would expect it to be a little bigger though.

The smell......EEWW it smells of plastic or chemicals not pleasant at all! The other thing I dislike intensely is after it dries on. My lips feel so cracked and dry almost like I am wearing dry paint on my lips. I remedy this my applying a clear gloss with scent on top to mask the smell and take away the dry look......problem solved! It is so long wearing and even after a night on the juice and eating it's in place and looking as gorgeous as the start of the night and I love that in a lipstick.

The colour is oh so gorgeous and just pops! It is so pigmented and out of this world awesome. It's a statement colour and one which I will wear often. Now I just need to get it in wicked and cashmere.....swooon! It really is my Utopia :D

Tips: Use a gloss over top to take away some of that dryness

Liquid Magic

As curious as I am, I had to get my hands on one of these Lime Crime Velvetines. Even with all this talk and speculation about them I had to give this liquid velvetine a try.

It's incased in this frosty glass tube. The lid has this retro yet funky design. The lip wand has this soft applicating sponge thats helps apply the lip stain on your lips well. The colour I chose was Utopia. I got mine from a friend selling it in a marketplace. It's the closest I could get to getting one of these so I was very thankful.

Application with this wand was truely the best I've ever experienced before. It goes on like liquid and magically dries into this matte lip stick coverage. How did they make this product. I am amazed! There was a scent like chemicals. It's indescribeable. I tried eating, drinking and doing my normal daily activities and not one smudge.

My results were well covered lips. My lips had a matte finish. There was no stickyness , no smudges whatsoever. It had a smell sort of like twink. It is becoming very rare with them stopping the imports to New Zealand. Like I said earlier I was lucky enough to get my hands on a second hand one. Would love to own a brand new one one day. I would buy it again. It's worth buying. The brightest colour I've ever had.

Tips: Warning these are extremely drying. It would help to apply lip balm before or after.

Velvetine

I thought I had done a review on this but obviously I hadn't so this is a late review.

I bought this after giving into all the hype about it online. I have the pink velvetine.

I like that this dries matte and doesn't take long to dry. It stays put once its on and lasts all day. It is highly pigmented so a little goes a long way. The pink is a nice hot pink which can be made darker by applying a couple of extra coats. The tube is pretty cute and handy to carry around.

I don't like the applicator, I feel it doesn't give a precise application and can look a little messy around the edges. It's very hard to wipe off any little mistakes. Because its so dry and matte it does catch on to any flakiness on the lips and this will be very obvious once the lipstick has dried. It can rub off in the middle if you have only applied one coat so I would recommend applying a couple of coats to make sure it lasts all day. Once it's on you can go about your day as normal and not worry about it rubbing off or anything.

Now that I know about the scandal I won't be buying Lime Crime products again.

Tips: Scrub your lips and prime before applying this. Use a lip brush for precise application and clean up any mistakes with concealer.

Great matte finish!

With all the hype around these lippies, I decided I had to try them. I have the colour red velvet.

The packaging is gorgous, which is just another reason I was attracted to them. It comes in a frosted glass tube with a pretty pink lid with roses. Its also the perfect size for carrying in your handbag.

It applies as a liquid and dries matte. The colour is super pigmented and I only need to use one coat to get full opacity. I didnt have any issues with the applicator either and found it really easy to use.

The product dries matte quite quickly although for me it can still feel slightly sticky for a while. Its also very dry as expected for a matte colour, so I always make sure to exfoliate my lips first so it doesnt dry into any cracks. The colour lasts pretty much all night with eating and drinking, only slighty wearing off in the middle after a few hours.

I will definitely purchase more of these when I can.

Tips: Exfoliate your lips first and use lip balm as it can be quite drying.

It ain't going anywhere

I was gifted a Lime Crime Velvetine in the very bold colour WICKED.

The Velvetine comes in a very light weight tube where the bottom part is frosted plastic so you can see the product. And the lid is a gorgeous metalic maroon colour with pink roses. Very girly :-)

The lid is easy to undo and I love the applicator wand. The applicator wand makes things a little easier to apply with the slanted tip and soft brush end.

WICKED is a very dark, ruby red shade. Definitely no sheer lips when applied. You do not need to build the colour up and I would highly recommend a very steady hand. I made a terrible job/mess the first application. I first thought 'vampire' and the shade made my teeth appear more white. And I hadn't applied properly around my chicken lips so when I opened my mouth, I looked stupid.

I cannot believe how fast Lime Crime Velvetines dry! I am not use to the feeling on my lips and find myself licking my lips as they feel dry. And if I put something over the top of the lippie, then my lips would no longer look matte.

Lime Crime Velvetines apply like a gloss but look like a matte lippie. I do not like the smell either. I can't put my finger on the scent. Cross between a light vanilla/chlorine smell?? And you can faintly taste it as well.

The lippie does not budge and I remove with a baby wipe.

I am an amatuer when it comes to make up and I am sure others would easily apply in one swipe. For those like myself, I would not recommend applying in a hurry or in the car!

WICKED is too bold for me but I would love to try a lighter shade of red or pinks.

Oh, the visuals that come to mind when you mention blood red lippy and application in the car. Carnage, much?!

Beautiful Colour & Packaging, but not for me

Its weird to think a year ago, I didn’t know or care who Lime Crime was, but when this company did pop up on my radar, it was because of their velvetiness. They were beautiful. I have googled swatches for these left, right and centre, and not just because of the beautiful and unique colours they came in, but also because the beautiful packaging.

The lime crime velvetine range is packaged in a clear frosted plastic cylinder. The top half on the packaging is red and covered in roses with the lime crime logo printed in white text. It’s pretty and I don’t think anyone could deny that. The red part of the packaging twists off and pulls out of the frosted section to reveal the wand applicator, and the beautiful velvetine inside. In my case, my chosen colour was uptopia, which is an epic cool toned magenta.

Application is easy, but I find with the package design, way more product then I need come out so I have to wipe it off before I use it which make it a bit messy. But it’s a good fact that a little bit of this product goes a long way. I use the wand for application, and carefully line my lips with the velvetine before colouring in my whole lip. The colour is opaque, that’s for sure and it has some serious staying power. But I also find that it really really dries my lips out. Plus even when I exfoliate before using the product, this product seems to almost highlight the lines in my lips.

I find this product is lovely in regards to colour and packaging, but it just does not agree with my lips and this means I rarely reach for this product, and have only used it a handful of times. For that reason as well as a couple others, I won’t be repurchasing Lime Crime Velvetines again, and I have decided to sell my Utopia Lime Crime aswell.

I have NY-CEE, MA-LI-BOO, SHAN-HAI and TO-KI-O... MA-LI-BOO is probably my fave - it's the neon pink in my profile pink, but SHAN-HAI is a lovely darker pink that could suit you!

I really want to try these. Utopia is the purple yeah? That's on my list. I'm liking my Australia Velourlips a lot and I'm told by some that these are better but by some that they aren't as good

My Holy Grail!

I love these and I will continue to buy them even if the company is a little shady. I do find some colours bleed a little more than others but that can be easily be fixed with a lipliner and careful application. Red Velvet and Utopia are my go to shades. They last for hours (even while eating and drinking) and even if they do fade through the day, the product semi stains your lips so you don't look super patchy. One annoying thing though is their formula can be inconsistent and vary lipstick to lipstick.

Tips: Since these are matte, they look absolutely stunning when you overdraw your lips.

Love the velvetines!

These are lovely liquid to matte lippies. I have the colours Suedeberry (my personal fave), Red Velvet, Wicked, Utopia, Salem.

They apply as liquid with an easy to use applicator and dry matte. These lippies do not move all day. I usually reapply about mid day after eating but it isn't necessary. Every time im wearing one I get compliments (esp utopia, suedeberry and red velvet).

The packaging is lovely as are the colour options, I'd love to get a few more!

If I were to say anything slightly negative about the velvetines it would be that they smell a bit off? My Utopia smells so strange that I cringe when I apply it but the smell goes once dry!

Tips: I personally use a lip brush for very precise lines :)

So conflicted!

So I got my hands on the Red Velvet for a wedding I was involved in, the bride wanted rich red lips, and I wanted to not have to touch up my lipstick all night long. This was definitely the product for me. The colour was amazing, and it most definitely was not budging! Initially the smell was pleasant, but after using it for a while it got a bit sickly. Luckily it only has a scent for the first few mins while applying.

It looked amazing, and as I said, didn't require any touching up. By the time we were having photos done, all the other bridesmaids were begging to use it.

My problem, the reason I felt conflicted, was due to all the drama surrounding the brand. I don't like the fact I am supporting someone who is obviously not an honest businesswoman. But I cannot deny that the colour payoff and overall effect of her products are amazing

The Matt velvetines look fabulous, and this red really did suit every single skin tone. It can be a bit tricky to get right, you have to be very precise, but once you've got it, well its pretty amazing. It is perfect for overdrawing, and even looks great with another colour or gloss swiped across the top of it.

If someone came to me looking for a universal red, with super staying power, I would not hesitate to recommend it. But I would definitely give them a heads up on the companies less than stellar reputation

Tips: Use a lip brush, at least for the outline, be precise and then fill the lips in. Use concealer and a thin brush to tidy up afterwards, and always make sure to exfoliate the lips well before using. It will show every dry, flaky detail if you don't.
