Do You Struggle to Find a Great Facial Sunscreen?

Hello, it's me again - your SPF-obsessed editor.

I get comments all the time about how the boys have 'English Skin' - aka, they're pale.  But here's the thing - both boys are outdoorsy kids.  Jack goes to the park or preschool daily.  I wear Billy every day for a walk.  They're pale because every morning when mama applies her sunscreen, my vampire babies have theirs applied.  And it's re-applied throughout the day.  For us, applying SPF is like brushing your teeth - it's neither a chore nor a burden, it's just part of the routine.  So yes, my little Piwis are pale, but they're still getting their Vitamin D!

The Husband on the other hand - only seems to remember to apply sunscreen when he's rocking the sunburn!  So, assuming we all know the risks of sun exposure (which we do right?) , why are some people not fussed about applying sunscreen?

The common complaints about sunscreen are;

  • It's greasy
  • It smells funny
  • It needs reapplying
  • It stains clothes
  • It leaves youir skin shiny

Well, we've got news for you - yes some products are guilty of all of these things, but many, many products do none of these things.  Just as you can find gorgeous moisturisers out there, you can find fantastic sunscreens too - you just need to find the one for you!

We're putting Cancer Society SPF 50+ Moisturising Face Sun Lotion to the test.  This light-feel sun lotion offers high protection with a dry touch.  There's no shine, oiliness or stickiness, and it won't leave white marks.  The light-weight, easy to spread formula is a cream based sunscreen loaded with Vitamin E.  It offers UVA/UVB broad spectrum, is paraben free and leaves a matte finish.

In short - it sounds like everything you'd want or need from a facial sunscreen.  And with sunscreens like this on the market there really is no excuse not to wear it daily!

We're looking for a team to put this to the test and we're curious as to how many people use sun protection every day - so why not chat to us about your sunscreen habits.  Are you a good girl and use it daily, or are you not particularly judicious about it?  If you don't use SPF every day, why not?

I live at the beach and I must admit I only apply sunscreen when I go to the beach however this is most days. It would be great to trial a sunscreen that is nongreasy.

Yes, this is an issue. I currently use moisturiser with SPF, but I know I'm not really getting much sun protection from that. I have pale skin and my sister has had melanoma so I need to be really careful. I'd love to give this one a shot!

Yes it is a Struggle to find a good sunscreen. Their always greasy or leave a white filmy texture on my skin. My children put it on every morning before going to school. I'm a believer in sunscreen.I put it on two to three times a day.

I find most are greasy and think so don't feel good on your face. I try to use makeup with SPF to avoid the problem but know this is not the answer.

Thankfully mineral foundation offers SOME protection from the sun by the titanium dioxide and zinc in it but I still like to apply a product with an SPF underneath, especially if I know I will be out in the sun most of the day. YAY for light tinted moisturiser than contains SPF.

I'm the same a lot of the time, seems so easy to convince yourself you're covered with what's in your moisturizer. But to be completely honest mine is only SPF 15...no where near enough!

I attended a Snowberry talk where they spoke about SPF in moisturisers and now I can't believe I hadn't considered how much the SPF factor is diluted down in other products, plus the fact we rarely put enough on to get the SPF advertised!
