REVIEW EXPERT

About Me I have incredibly finicky skin, everything makes me break out so it’s a passion of mine to find products that I can use that do the job they promise without compromising too heavily on having to use products containing cheap, nasty chemicals. Due to that, I have done a fair amount of research into what I need to avoid. I love reading reviews and have become more and more frustrated at the products we get offered here compared to what is offered in the American market. Thankfully more and more NZ based and made products are turning up and some of those products are incredible. The search however, goes on …. If you’re wondering about my avatar, my mother and I go to Bali every year for a break from the men. We used to take a cask of wine with us to enjoy a glass of wine each night on our balcony & one year we took an Officemax monkey that we named Bananas who we took everywhere with us. This picture represents the fun that my Mum & I have together on holiday.

Remington i-LIGHT Pro Review

Wow!

For years I have suffered ingrown hairs on my legs from epilation. I've tried Silky Mit and loved it but those ingrown hairs always came back. I recently tried the exfoliation gloves on a daily basis along with a BHA and although that was more successful it never fully stopped them from happening (lessened yes but stopped, no).

Along came Nat with her trial of this IPL machine and with the special they had on it I figured "why not?". After all, Remington do say that if you don't like it, you can return it for a full refund in 60 days.

So my results aren't as good as Nat's review but I don't care because my ingrown hairs have gone! I would have little marks and scabs all over my legs from picking ingrown hairs and there would be red bumps from regrowth. This has eliminated all of that.

I have been using this for a month and a bit (two weeks between sessions, just done my 4th) and sure hair is still growing (remember, I used an epilator so my hair is on a funny growth cycle AND a lot of my hair is blonde, not black) but I can see that it is a lot less and smoother too. I can easily get away with shaving once a week. Shaving ... something I have not done in YEARS.

I found it a bit scary to use the first time but after realising that 1) it doesn't leave marks, 2) doesn't hurt very much and 3) yes you can go over the same place more than once without worrying about burning as they suggest in their booklet, I found it incredibly easy to use, more so than the epilator.

Pressing the button to do the light and zap can be a bit of a pain though. You think you have it pressed but you don't so you have to readjust your grip and try again. It would be far easier to use a trigger mechanism than a push button one but this is my only complaint.

Yes it is a lot of money to spend on something you aren't too sure about and of course, nothing you can buy will give you 110% of your expectations but for me I think this machine is great and I'm really glad I took the chance and purchased one.

Tips: Watch youtube vids and read up other reviews on this model (be very specific in your searches because previous models have replacement cartridges etc, this does not have that) before you splash out since it is an expensive product that many of us would consider a luxury item.

If you get any brown or white marks on the mirror of the hand held device, simply get a cotton bud, dip it in some Isopropyl Alcohol (pick up from the chemist for about $8) and gently wipe over the mirror. Follow that up with the lint free cloth included with the machine to dry it out.

Was this review useful to you? Yes No

No and from what I've read, it's a myth that hair gets darker and thicker from shaving so no worries there. I haven't used this machine in 12 months now and hair grows at same rate but there is way less of it. I might have another crack with it.

Thanks for this review. I also epilate and get terrible ingrown hairs. I'm so keen to try this home IPL machine, although I am nervous that my hair is too light. Did you find that your hair darkened once you started shaving again?

Reversaderm by Dr Lewinns

Did someone say reverse!? A skin care regime that can assist in slowing down, and perhaps reverse, those pesky signs of aging. What more could a girl in her very early forties ask for?

My personal areas of concern consist of “experience lines” (that is the sophisticated term for wrinkles and crow’s feet!) around my eyes, down my nose, along my upper cheek bones and forehead. Minor pigmentation, age spots around the temple area, tiny bumps on my lower cheeks (which come and go) and overall dry skin. All things that may be unnoticeable to others but unfortunately I see them. All these concerns mean a lot to work on for one set of products but there is nothing like putting something to the ultimate test. Going in to the trial I decided I’d be happy with just one improvement, so let’s see how Reversaderm performed for me.

The packaging of the 5 step system is white with silver rims, black and blue writing and clear plastic lids. The overall presentation of the product line is clean, crisp, sleek and simple.

The system consists of a cleanse, serum and moisturise that you use day and night for two weeks. A peel is done every second night and mask once a week. You do this for two weeks, then revert to your usual skincare routine for the following two weeks. Once done, repeat, and so on.

My usual routine consists of cleanse, tone, serum and moisturise. Reversaderm was a little different, potentially a stronger formulation with a more concentrated impact and used in a shorter time frame. Needless to say, I was a little nervous having read the warnings regarding tingling, burning etc. However, I have to say I was most pleasantly surprised.

The cleanser (Glycolic Clarifying Cleanser) has a pump dispenser, is a white cream consistency, very smooth, has a scent of what seems like vitamin C with a floral undertone (to me at least) and is easy to blend into the skin. It’s applied to damp skin and massaged in for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Once rinsed my skin felt soft and surprisingly exfoliated for a cream product with no apparent abrasives. Smooth, clean and ready for the next step.

With an eye drop applicator the serum (Tri-Collagen Accelerating Serum) is also easy to dispense. I was surprised to find that the serum was a cream type consistency. Most serums I’ve used have had more of a thick water or oil feel about them. In applying I had to work fast as I found the serum dried quickly not giving me a lot of time to spread and blend into my skin. But the effort was worth it. The cream disappeared leaving a soft film of nourishment over my skin.

Tips: Review Continued: Moisturising is my favourite part of any routine, predominantly because I have dry skin. It’s that moment when you’ve completed the first couple of steps in your regime, you’re squeaky clean and can just start to feel those first signs of “cracking”. This moisturiser is lovely! It’s thin yet effective, a little goes a long way and it has a delicate scent (not overpowering). I usually use a cream but this is more of a liquid. My skin instantly soaks it up leaving yet again a smooth surface with no greasy residue. The dispenser is different to anything I’ve used before and reminds me of the nail polish remover dispenser that nail technicians use. You push down on the top to dispense product. My only complaint with this type of packaging is that I feel it gives more than you need and is hard to control.

The word “peel” gives an instant image of a women with a bright red shiny face, having just been to the salon and had several layers of skin removed. Thankfully the Reversaderm Peel (Micro-Cellular Age Correcting Peel) is a lot gentler than that and does not mimic that very scary image. This was the product that I was most cautious about, based on the preconception of what a peel is. The formulation of this product gives you a cloudy gel consistency with a “medicated” type scent, almost a hint of eucalyptus or something similar. You apply a thin layer to the skin for 20-30 minutes. Once applied the peel dries but leaves a shine to your skin. Personally I experienced a small amount of tingling on the first application but nothing further when using the product. My skin was left rejuvenated, had a brightness about it and was silky smooth.

The last step for the week is the mask (Enzymatic Detoxifying Mask). A purple cream which is applied all over the face and left for 15-20 minutes. A similar scent to the peel with a hint of “sunburn cream or coppertone” (weird I know but that’s what it reminds me of). The cream dries but is not uncomfortable. Once removed I noticed immediate change in the small bumps on my cheeks, they seemed smaller and softer. My skin felt amazing, fresh, revitalised and tighter.

After having 4 weeks of using the products I definitely have results. My skin is smoother. I noticed after 2 weeks of my usual regime some dullness had returned slightly. There is a brightness to my skin that is giving a younger radiance. The texture has changed in terms of the small bumps that were hanging on for dear life around my lower cheek area. In terms of my “experience lines” I feel there is a slight change in the ones around my eyes. They appear not as deep as they were. Of course it took 40 years to get them so it’s expected it would take longer than 4 weeks to fill them in.

I’m impressed with the products and will continue to use them. Thankyou Beauty Review for giving me the opportunity to try something different.

This is the BEST THING my skin's had in years!

I was very excited when I got selected for the Reversaderm Trial, Cleansers, Peels, Serums...the whole world turned on its axis! So to set the scene, i'm 48, I do have facials (although not as regularly as I probably should but I enjoy how my skin feels when I do). My skin is not sensitive at all really and I can pretty much use anything on it. I'm not generally loyal to any product or brand although an anti ageing moisturiser is MUST for me, and I alternate between high end and budget brands...so let's see how this lot stacks up. After all over $300 is a lot ..unless it's worth it..so let's find out.

So there are 5 products in this system and you need to use them 2 weeks on and two week off for 6 weeks. The instructions were pretty clear - you need to use the cleanser, serum and moisturiser every day alternating the Peel and the Masque every 2nd or 3rd day. Upon opening the products just a comment that all the packaging looks gorgeous all white, glossy and super high end.

We've been asked to talk about each product individually so here we go.

The Cleanser

One of my favourite products out of the 5 and one I will be repurchasing for sure. It comes in a pump bottle, has a light lotion consistency and smells fantastic. I use about 3 pumps but, (uh oh) i'm pretty sure you're only supposed to use one or two. That said has lasted me throughout the 6 weeks of the trial and beyond. I use my cleansers in the shower and no problems with this one here. After using this my skin feels clean and moisturised and not at all tight which is a great sign for a cleanser. I also LOVE the experience of using it, which is really important to me. I love my showers and every product I use within the glass dome needs to enhance that experience.

The Micro-Cellular Age Correcting Peel So this is my FAVOURITE product from the assortment (although it's fair to say we didn't start out as friends)! It comes in a smaller but identical bottle to the cleanser and contains 15% GLM Alpha Hydroxy Acid complex. You smooth it on every 2nd day after your cleanser. You're supposed to leave it on for 25 minutes, then rinse off. Well the first time I used it I nearly hit the roof..my skin felt so stingy I wondered it I could last the distance (to be fair they do warn you about this!) But last it I did and when I washed it off...... Boom-cha-wa-wa!! My skin just felt AMAZING, resurfaced, smooth and fabulous...just ready for the next step which is the..

Tips: Tri Collagen Accelerating Serum

Now this was probably my least favourite product in the range. The serum is to me not really a serum it is quite thick and milky..and that said it comes in a cute but impractical glass bottle with a eyedropper type top which is really unhelpful for getting the product out. I have some left in the bottom and the only way to get it out is to take the top off and bang it upside down so that's probably not ideal.

It was also difficult to separate out the benefits and the intrinsic feel good factor of this product unlike the others. That said though..i'm prepared to think of it as the 'Kale' of the Reversaderm...i.e you might not like using it but inside it's working!

Then we have the final step (in the daily system) which is ...The Anti Oxidant Regenerative Cream. (i.e the Day Moisturiser)

The packaging this comes in I really like. It comes in a bottle but then the top of it has this dinky push down thing where you lightly press down with two fingers either side and just the right amount of product comes up the top. It can be a trap for young players in the beginning as using just one finger and too much force can result in projectile of moisturiser where you least want or, expect it...but once you've mastered that..you're off!

This product was the perfect finish to this system. It glided over and gently soaked into my cleansed, peeled, serumed skin and Voila...! I seriously felt like i'd just walked out of a Salon facial.

There is one more product in the range which is the Enzymatic Detoxifying Mask. You use this once a week in place of one of your peels. For me this is the perfect mask. It not a 'dry-cracky' type mask, nor a sheet mask. It comes in a tube and you apply a thin layer, leave for 20 minutes and rinse off..gorgeous...

Phew..

So in general my experience of this system was really positive and i've rated it over all a 5/5. Yeah I could have marked it down for the serum, but I feel that would have been a bit harsh and afterall it is a system afterall. So in summary I will be repurchasing, the Cleanser the Peel, the Mask AND the Moisturiser.. and just to finish..

Did I love it? YES! Is it worth the money? YES! Would I marry it? YES Would I live with it forever? YES!

And my tips?

Don't freak out if your skin is really tight and tingly when you use the Peel for the first time (unless of course it is literally on fire..then possibly a panic is worth it). Consider it the Brazillian of Reversaderm! Hurts like hell the first time, a wee bit the 2nd time but after that..meh...and the results are worth it!

Shadow Insurance

I got this eye primer from beauty bay and it works well,

its great at evening out skin tone to create a clean base for your shadows. it does make your shadows appear brighter and more pigmented. my eyeshadow definitely last all day with this and no creasing!

i love the packaging! the blue tube just looks so cool and definitely stands out. the lid is very strong so i know it wont easily break. i also like that the lid (where the product comes out) is very thin so its easier to control how much product you get. which is good because you only need a tiny amount.

the only thing i dont really like about this is that there is this oily clear liquid that separates from the actual primer. it doesnt make a huge difference to the use i just have to work it in a bit more.

its definitely a great product. would re-purchase!

Tips: squeeze the tube before you apply to make sure the product is well mixed together. that way you wont get the separation issue. also you only need the tiniest bit.

I have this primer too and love it. It doesn't irritate my eyes at all but I find that you really need to give the tube a good shake to get that product mixed so it doesn't come out oily/runny. If it does, wipe on tissue until you get actual product

Not $82 Worth of Amazing

This is a good product and I would definitely use it again given the opportunity however I would not purchase it or recommend it to a friend to purchase as I don't find it much different than its cheaper alternatives.

I have the 10ml 'vial' and it has lasted me a good 3 months so far with fairly frequent use (not everyday). The packaging is a gorgeous glass vial, which I love, however the applicator is a weird spatula which I find unhygienic - I end up wiping this onto sanitised hands then applying to my face with my fingers. It's probably fine for a 10ml as you use it up pretty quick but I wouldn't want to be doing that for a year with the 60ml version! I far prefer pumps for this type of product.

The product itself comes out a white colour and feels luxuriously smooth and silky. It applies amazingly and a little goes a long way however I feel it turns translucent on the skin (which is fine!) but definitely doest conceal any of my redness. It does make the skin look and feel very smooth however I can achieve this same effect with another 'drugstore' alternate product I own.

I haven't personally noticed any superiority in terms of makeup wear time compared to my other primers and I haven't tested it's claims to repel water.

Overall I feel that this is a really nice luxury product that does most of what it claims but in my opinion there are equal products available far cheaper. I don't think its worth quite that much money however if price isn't an object, this is a really nice primer.

Was this review useful to you? Yes No

Maybe they have recently changed the packaging...one of the other reviewers said that theirs came in a squeeze tube! I am using the 10ml vile from a Mecca BeautyLoop box, and it has the spatula thing too.

Spatula? My 10ml has a pump so I'm wondering if they changed the packaging. What I like about this is that it is mineral SPF not chemical :).

Love!

I love this pencil.

I love putting a light colour on my bottom waterline but have struggled to get the right colour for a natural look. They're either too white or too 'nude' coloured. The matte pencil is that perfect shade, it brightens and erases any redness you may have. It's texture is perfect too, I've had some that are too creamy and leave marks or clumps on my lashes or I've had pencils that are too hard and I have to drag it along with little colour payoff... But this pencil is has that just right texture, no dragging or excess product.

The shimmery end of the pencil is beautiful too. It seems to have a softer feel to it compared to the matte end. It looks lovely on your inner eye corner or under the brow for a subtle highlight. It's not glittery, just a very pretty shimmer.

Overall I'm really happy with this product and think it is a great item to have to brighten up tired eyes.

Was this review useful to you? Yes No

I should mention this isn't white :) it's slighly pink which sounds strange but I guess since you can use pink base products to brighten that's how this product works. I love it, looks more natural then stark white. You need it in your life ;)

Ooooooooooooo I too love a "white" eyeliner, really opens up the eyes but boy are they hard to find in NZ. I'll check this one out in Farmers. Thanks for the review :).

Very Impressed!

So I suffer with dermatitis on my hands mainly. It's very uncomfortable and itchy. Definitely not something I let everyone see. When I first received 'radiance oil of beauty' from beauty review I didn't realise it was capsule form...and the capsules were huge!! I followed the directions of taking it twice a day with food. After the first week I noticed a few breakouts around my nose. The second week, dermatitis on my hand started to subside. I'm now at the end of my third week and my dermatitis is almost gone, I still have a couple breakouts but that could be hormonal too. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this product. My lifestyle hasn't changed, which reassures me that this product is helping with my dermatitis. As a side note, I've noticed my hair has been growing faster, my nails are stronger. I'm not too sure if it has to do with radiance oil of beauty, but I've noticed it since taking them! If I had a friend suffering from very dry skin, I would absolutely recommend radiance oil of beauty! I wouldn't hesitate to continue purchasing it

Thanks for this! Great to know it's a pill which unfortunately I can't handle taking :(. I too suffer contact dermatitis on my hands but I find it is more from shampoo's than anything else. Still handy to know this helps relieve it!

Garnier BB Cream- Anit-Aging

I have maturing skin, oily T Zone, otherwise normal but a bit of sagging which I hate! I was excited to try this BB cream as I hadn't heard of anti-aging one before. It was quite a thick cream and I had the Fair coloured one, the colour was perfect. It had a lovely refreshing perfume which I liked. The packaging appears to me, to be a bit "busy", gives a 'budget' look I think. I am writing this review earlier than I would normally write a review having only had the product a couple of days. The reason I'm writing the review early is that I won't be using this product again. I have used it twice. It is so very greasy, even my eye-lids felt greasy and like they were sticking together or at the very least were wet. I applied it with a quality foundation brush. It has a very light coverage, too light for me, but the cream itself, feels very heavy. Some people might say that it's ok for weekend wear or if you just want a light cover but I would be scared of it slipping right off my face without a mountain of powder over the top! It has a very 'dewy' finish, or should that be 'greasy'. I cannot say specifically what longevity is like as both times I have worn it, I have had to put quite a bit of powder on otherwise I would have simply taken it off and used another foundation. It claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines, but it sinks into them and shows them up. I did not notice any tightening of my skin. So all things considered, I would not recommend the anti-aging one. The other types might be better, I don't know.Even though it is a relatively good price, I do not think it's worth the money. There are better BBs out there.

Tips: Powder, powder, powder.

Great for clearing up acne

I bought this awhile back because of receiving samples of it previously.

Formula - its a very runny liquid, more like water, with a slight smell, not much though because it isn't fragranced. Thats one of the things I like about Paula's Choice.

Application - I found the only way to use this was to apply it with my fingers, as I found that if I used it with a cotton pad, it would soak up quite a bit of the product and not much of it would be going onto my skin. I did find it abit awkward doing it that way, but it was saving product, so I didn't mind so much. It goes on really well and just sinks right into your skin. I really liked the feeling of this.

Results - I went through a really rough patch with my skin and I had tried so many things to clear it up. This product really helped do that and my skin really cleared up. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to always try new products, so this one never got finished and went on to use Oasis Beauty products instead.

Purchase again - Yes I believe I would if the price is right at the time, like a sale or something as full price it can be quite expensive. It is definitely worth it though.

he he he Imoshen, funny how we're all so different aye lol :-)

LOL I'm the opposite, prefer the cotton wool ball rather than applying with fingers. One thing I really like about it is that it doesn't make my face feel or look oily after applying.

Pleasantly surprised

This is a really nice moisturiser and I’m quietly impressed with it (I say quietly because when I used the samples I wasn’t taken by it at all). I think the smell could potentially put people off. To me, it reminds me of the alpha hydroxy cream the machine operator used when I had micro dermabrassion done many years ago so it’s hard to describe what it smells of. I guess the closest I can come to is it smells of pureed apple skins. Anyway, you only notice it when you spread it over your face, it fades as soon as you’ve used it and it’s not over bearing or unpleasant.

It’s a light cream colour that spreads quickly and evenly, disappearing into the skin fast (it takes about a minute to dry) leaving your skin feeling soft and moisturised but not oily and no residue leftovers. Since I started using this twice a day along with Oxygen’s Ultimate Botanical Serum I’ve been amazed by the results. The Botanical Serum helps keep the oilies and shine at bay as well as helping reduce redness and acne flare ups and this moisturiser seems to compliment really well with it.

I’ve tried many moisturisers, all of them make me look like an oil slick by lunch time. Not this one and since I have started using it I have gone back to blotting only once a day and I’m confident that even that is not entirely necessary. The good news, no break outs for me from it!

The packaging is quite nice too but I have read a number of reviews where they complain about the pump being broken. When I started using it, it took AGES for the product to pump out and I despaired that I had one of those faulty ones I’d read about. I persisted with it and once the product started coming out I have not had any problems since. The product is encased in a air tight pump and there is no indicator showing how much product is left in the bottle, you have to go on weight feel so it might pay to have a back up for when you get caught out.

Tips: Allow the moisturiser a moment or two to sink in before you apply any serums.

Was this review useful to you? Yes No

This my fav moisturiser too!

Paula doesn't make any claims that it is oil free but it is formulated for combination/oily skin and it does contain some silicones but having used it and compared to other moisturisers I've used, I love it.

Thus sounds really good. Is it oil free?
