Do you return beauty products that aren't quite right?

As consumers we're pretty well protected - you can return almost anything for a full refund, replacement or store credit.

When it comes to a bad purchase, I'm not shy to head up to customer services and ask for a refund.  The same if I end up with two of one product, or even something I've changed my mind on when I see it in my home.  But the one thing I can't bring myself to return are beauty products.

Even if they're unused.  I just can't do it.  And I don't know why.  Maybe it's the heebie jeebies I felt whence once I came home with a tester lipstick by mistake.  I don't want my germs to be 'another person's germs' to some poor shop assistant.  Or maybe it's just the consumer guilt thing.  I mean, I bought it, I took it home, opened it and tried it.  If I take it back and ask for my money back, isn't that a bit naughty?  The store can't resell it, so in the bin it goes.  This does not make me a friend to the environment either.

Nope, when it comes to a bad beauty buy I take my lumps and where possible, I gift the unwanted product to a friend.

And yet I'd be well within my consumer rights to return beauty products that didn't work or I didn't like them once I tried them.  Most department stores and pharmacies have returns policies that will allow you at the very least store credit if a product doesn't work for you.  So if you're unsure about your next beauty purchase it might be worth asking for the return policy.

Over to you - to you return bad beauty buys?  Or are you like me, and does the whole thing just sit wrongly with you?  Get chatting below!

I've never ever returned a product. I've got the wrong colour foundation many times and paid a big price for it . I never thought to ask about their return policies before. I will next time I get make up.

I don't return things unless I absolutely have to. I work in retail and hate it when people return things (it comes off our budgets and makes the company grumpy with us) so I won't return something unless I absolutely have to because I don't want to do that to someone else. With beauty things also because I've had to try them I would feel bad taking back something I've used.

I think when we pay a bit of money they should offer some of sample or some tutorials especially if you've made the sales assistant aware of this being your first time to the product

Like The Warehouse and grocery stores, they don't have samples. I see their make up drop at times but I just don't wanna take a gamble.
