Braids Are Best! Here's Why...

by BR Kellie

Today, as I write this, it's muggy and humid. My skin feels deliciously plump, which I love, however my hair is halo-ing around my head, which I hate. There's only one thing for it... One way to contain the frizz while also making myself look like I care about my appearance... It's time to embrace the braid.

This may be a big call, but I think that braids are the best. Possibly even better than buns. Here's four reasons why:

Flexibility

As much as I adore a bun (and I live in one most days), what I love about braids is all the different ways you can wear one. They can be as simple or as ornate as you'd like. You can braid a little of your hair, or the lot. You can side braid, centre braid, braid bits all over your hair, then pull it into a ponytail. You can make a braid bun, a half-up half-down braid, a braid that creates a crown around your head. The only thing to hold you back is your imagination...and possibly your own physical flexibility.

Stylish

Braids make you look like you've gone to that extra effort in a way a sleek ponytail or perfectly put together messy bun can never do. You don't even have to go to all the arm-bending extravagance of creating a fish tail braid either, a simple few locks of hair intertwined can then be looped around a hairtie, or twisted back into a bun, or pinned away from the face to make it look like you've spent twenty minutes on your 'do' rather than two.

Goodbye Grease

Missed shampoo day? A braid is a great way to twist and turn your hair into a look that doesn't make it appear like you've dipped your head into a vat of oil. On days such as these, I give my hair a squirt of dry shampoo, work it through, create two tight braids that frame my face, then tuck the rest of my hair into a bun a the crown of my head. Job done.

Good For Your Hair

If your hair's in need of some extra care, then putting it in a braid is a great way to go. It can reduce breakage, help prevent split ends, and if you pop in a conditioning treatment before braiding, you'll add extra nourishment to your tresses as you go about your day. Basically a braid is the hair treatment you didn't know you needed...until now. You're welcome.

Cute. Cool. Stylish. Sweet. The braid is anything and everything you want it to be, which is why it gets five beauty kisses from we braid-lovers at BRHQ.

I love braids! I've done them on myself quite a bit in the past, especially when travelling or on beachy holidays. They look cool and are great for keeping hair low-maintenance and protected from sun and salt. I'd love to do them more, but I'm not hugely confident or skilled at it, frankly. Maybe I need to take a class or something...

I like braids on other people. I didn't learn how to do them myself, nor cared enough to learn.

I think braids are pretty cute but not on me at 52 years old but I would opt for a french braid ponytail or bun because any age can rock that.

I can't braid and don't have my hair braided but my girls do a fab job on their own hair.
