Beauty Subscription Boxes - What's important?

Four months ago we asked for your opinion on Beauty Subscription Boxes - are they great, or a great waste of money?

Just in case you're not familiar with Subscription Boxes, here's a quick recap:

Beauty subscription boxes are a (normally) monthly box of goodies that are delivered direct to your door, for a fee. They'll generally be a mix of samples, 'generous samples' and even full sized products.  There are boxes for just about everything, from beauty products, fashion accessories, crafting, food and kids clothing.

Some beauty boxes focus on a specific area, ie, cosmetics or skincare; others will contain a mixture of products.  The key to subscription boxes is that you do not know what you're going to receive, only that it's value will be more than you've paid for it.

Well we're curious about just what it is people love (or indeed loathe) about Beauty Boxes - so let's get right to it.

Is it the box or the products that you look forward to the most?

By the box, we mean do you relish the thought of getting a gorgeously packaged box in the mail, like a present from a secret admirer?  Do you enjoy opening a beautifully wrapped parcel and exploring what's inside? Would you feel a little disappointed if you received just a basic courier package, no matter how much you enjoyed the products enclosed?

or;

Do you only really care about the products inside, and no matter how sumptuously packaged a subscription box is, can you not help but wish the provider had paid more attention to the products inside? Would you be happy to receive a no frills courier package with a surprise mix of full sized products?'  Especially if the RRPs genuinely exceed what you paid for it?

We really want to hear your thoughts on Beauty Boxes - what ideas / features would make your ultimate Beauty Box?  And what are Beauty Box no-nos to you?  Do you tire of products you can't readily buy in NZ or does it excite you to trial products from far-away lands?  Does it rub you the wrong way when you read RRPs on products you can find no further information about?

I think it is lovely to get special wrapping but if the contents are not special it is a let down so the initial impact is lost. If there had to be a choice the product inside is more important. Under promise and over deliver is always a good idea.

The products are always the best part when getting a subscription box. The beautiful packaging is just a bonus. I wouldnt mind a simple packaging as long as the products are well curated and effective.

For me the products are more important than the package they come in. I'm sure you wouldn't want to spend your money on nice boxes with nothing interesting inside. I don't have any subscriptions of this sort but I love seeing what other people get.

There are Beauty Subscription Boxes?????

A courier box is fine - I am more interested in the products - Are they for my skin tone, are they something that is new/current, are they worth what I paid..

Products definitely! I wouldn't care if it comes in an unlabelled cardboard box, because it's what's inside that counts!

Create a box that can be looked at at related back to beauty review maybe a bright pink box with a gold BR on the front either way make the box reflect what's inside so make up beauty stuff :) like I said on Fb maybe a short survey needs to be done for example ladies that wear lipstick an eye shadow more get the "blue br box" this might be to much too going thru extra paper work but a nice thought anyways. Include postage in the box so just a one off payment is done an let ladies have the choice to opt out. If there's a product new unused the person knows won't use create a pass it on section?

Pretty boxes are nice but it's definitely what's on the inside that counts!!

I do love the idea of surprises, bit I'm all about the products! It's aaaalll about those gorgeous contents. I love to get my monies worth, so for me I'd definitely go for a box that full with high quality products.

I think pretty packages are alwsome but in this case i would have to say the product and the sizes of the products are most important to me especially if its a fair amount of money each month. just saying ! i love this idea of this box, but i would think its best to have brands that everyone can purchase if they liked what they tried in the box and wanted to buy some more, so properly not from over seas where it is a bit more harder to purchase. also i think it would be great if you guys had like maybe three different types of boxes maybe 1 different box every month or 3 different types people can choose from each month. and when i say 3 different types i mean like 1 box could be about makeup and all the things that you put on you face b4 you go out somewhere special. maybe the second could be a pampering one where you have some of the pamper creams and oils for you face, neck and feet. and then the 3rd to be maybe a cleansing all over body one where there might be cleansing scrub for face , body, maybe a toner and them maybe moisturising creams for the finish touch. oh and there could be a box of like sensitive skin types of products. I'm guessing this would take up a lot of you time sorting this all out if you were to do it or something like this but im sure it might be something that other lady's might want too. What do you lady's think ??

I don't care about packaging at all! It's what'd on the inside that counts :)

I have only tried one beauty sub "box" thing and the products didnt even come in boxes! I really want to jump on the memebox bandwagon but after the first and 2nd boxes I got were so disappointing, I'm really hesitant to try any sub box because I don't want to get disappointed again.

I've never gotten one, I do love products and it's what's inside that counts, but I did just buy a lippy and eyeshadow pack because I loved the packaging. Floral lippy tube, very nice.

It said on FB 'the box' was everything including the products, so it has my vote. I love the boxes. I plan on reusing them for my own Christmas 'goodieboxes', only I'm going to wrap/glue Christmas paper to the box to give it the jolly season vibe! :-D

It is the products inside the box that is more important and exciting to rip the box open once you receive it lol - a box is a box I say and can be reuseable. The contents inside well thats the exciting part of it all.
