Quite fun!

First of all the size of this product is MASSIVE which I really appreciate. The consistency is very thick and a little goes a long way! I used it as a wash and scrub every morning and night for the past few weeks and did a mask about twice a week. As a face wash it is effective at washing the day's grime off but didnt really remove my concealer without some help from a face brush. Nevertheless my skin always felt smooth and soft after every wash. As a scrub I would not say that it contains enough exfoliating particles to do a thorough job, because we all know how they slip out from under your fingers when you try to scrub your face. Annoying, but can be expected. My favourite step was the mask because I don't usually do masks so it made me feel pretty fancy. It also has a nice bland fragrance so it doesn't annoy you when you do leave it on. I always left it longer than the reccomended 5 mins because it depends on how thick of a layer that you did. For $13.99 I think this product is worth it because you have the 3 in 1 options. Overall I enjoyed using this product but I did not see any changes in my blackheads or pores, and I think that it is just a matter of the amount of exfoliating particles it contains. It is however a very good thick mask.

I am always on the lookout for a new product that will help improve my skin and I’m and all for “one product does it all” so I was super excited to try this new face wash.

I first tried this out as a mask and it worked amazingly, it made my face tingle a little and that always makes me happy as it makes me believe that the product is working. I loved the way my skin felt afterwards, smooth and clean. Black heads were slightly less noticeable. The product itself has a chemical type scent, not too strong but it is noticeable. Once applied, the mask dried up pretty quickly which is a bonus as I don’t always have time to wait for masks to dry. When washing it off, I scrubbed it into my skin using circular motions and this helped exfoliate my skin, maybe even remove more blackheads. So all in all it works as a good mask and scrub.

I like a daily face wash that can remove all my makeup and I don’t have to do double the work to take my makeup off. Whilst this face wash did remove my makeup, I found it a little harsh for every day use. The tiny sand like particles were a little rough to be using every day. I also found it difficult to remove eye makeup with this face wash as the particles would get into my eyes. Again even as a face wash, it did leave my skin smooth and clean however mentioned, it was just a bit too harsh for every day.

If you are looking for one product to use as a mask and a scrub to get rid of blackheads then I would recommend this but maybe not so much as a daily face wash.

An all in one

I was quite excited to try this product as I am always keen to try anything that might help with pesky black-heads. It's a face wash, face mask, and an exfoliating scrub. To be honest, I like it as a ln exfoliator, but that's probably all I would use it for. It didn't do anything at all for my blackheads, and while it's not a bad face wash, I prefer something that foams a bit more than this. In terms of price though, I would say this product is quite reasonably priced. Smells good and is easy to use, but I certainly wouldn't rush out to buy or recommend it.

On The Fence!

I have been using this wash/scrub/mask almost three weeks now and have quite mixed results! Now.. it definitely does what it claims to do which is reduce the appearance of blackheads and remove dirt and impurities, but I found my face started breaking out after using this. This could just be because of using something different on my skin though rather than my usual product.

It is quite a strong smell and the product is dark grey almost black. It gives the face a GREAT clean after using it as a wash or scrub. I would use this after rinsing my face with water then applying all over, especially to blackhead prone areas (nose and chin) then rinsing off. I found my skin was super smooth after using it is a mask, so I would highly recommend trying it as a mask while you have this product.

Tips: Use as a mask at least twice a week for super smooth skin

Garnier Pure Active Charcoal 3 In 1 Mask

This is a bit of a mixed review for me. And I would like to make it clear from the beginning I am reviewing on behalf of myself and my flatmate (who also tried it out).

For me personally, this mask did not agree with my skin. My skin is temperamental at best; sensitive (sometimes more so than others), it can be dry (especially in these colder months) and it often feels tight after some cleansers (which I hate). This product made my skin redder, felt dry and tight and actually made me break out in the following days. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing as I am aware charcoal can often draw all the nasties out of the skin (so it may have just been doing that). Needless to say, this product was just not for me!

But seeing as we had a few weeks to trial it, I passed it on to my flatmate who has normal skin (lucky one). And I am happy to report she really liked it! She came rushing out of the bathroom after the first use (as a scrub) all excited about how smooth her skin felt! Even her friends thought so (because she made them feel her face as she was so excited). So for everyday, normal skin with no sensitivities, this product could be great! For anyone with sensitivities or skin on the drier side, give this one a miss.

The other I did not like, but my flatmate did not mind, was the scent. I personally found it a little too fragranced for my liking and it became quite sickly. As I said though, this is more a personal annoyance as my flatmate did not mind it at all.

Would I purchase again? Not for me, no. However, my flatmate quite liked it and might buy it again (provided it was on sale). Thus, I rate it in the middle (I can't rate it lower knowing that my skin likes to hate products).

Tips: Use in the shower - the charcoal can get messy over a white sink!

Moisturise after to stop your skin drying out.

Not sold

Can't say that I overly enjoyed this. Everything about it sounds great, I'm a huge fan of charcoal so it sounded ideal. It dried my skin out a bit too much for my liking so maybe would be suited to someone with really oily skin. After the first few washes I did find that I had quite a major breakout, larger than I've had for a long time.

I wasn't a huge fan of the smell. It smelt a lot like many mens products do, which is fine, it was just really quite strong.

I did like the mask aspect of it however, so may continue using it just as a weekly mask instead of a daily wash.

Hot Mess!

I picked this up in the last vault . I have an obsession with masks and cleansers . I absolutely love them . I enjoy collecting them for different issues in relation to my skin . Which has been temperamental.

Packaging comes in this blue tube . Consistency reminds me of a gritty pastey black mushy sand . Has this Minty / cheap men’s deodorant kind of scent . It’s tolerable .

Application comes out easily . Be careful it can splayed all over the place if your in the shower . Seems to move around quite a bit with the washing off part .

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now daily use . Skin is being cleansed well before and after make up use . Price wise it’s fair . I’m not completely sold on this yet . I think I should keep using it to see how I go .

Nothing remarkable (yet)

I have now used the Garnier pure active charcoal 3 in 1 mask consistently (twice daily) for one week.

In terms of packaging appearance, it is a plastic container (not ideal for the environment) and has a rather busy front label containing many colours and too much writing. The label is trying to sell a science-based product to increase sales. The actual product is a dark grey/black silty like texture. Spreading on face requires careful application as half of it can easily wash down the drain (toothpaste consistency). The wash may also stain the shower wall if you get it elsewhere.

The product can be used as a wash/cleanser, a scrub and a mask. I have tried all 3 methods - I believe washing and scrubbing are basically the same due to the texture of the product, whilst a mask I usually do whilst in the shower.

The product claims to eliminate impurities in 96%, visibly reduce blackheads in 87%, and after the first use removes excess oil in 96% of participants. Has it had this effect on me? No, but I think it's important to keep in mind these statistics were from a small trial (51 subjects) and we have no information on what the participant's skin was like prior to using the product. I also have only used this product for one week which is a small time frame to observe any long-term changes. My skin is a combination, and unfortunately, I rarely have completely clear skin. It is often quite red with blackheads and several random breakout spots.

Positive effects I have observed: - reduced size and number of blackheads around my nose. - a huge increase in softness of face. - reduced redness and more even colour of skin.

I am looking forward to seeing further positive effects continuing to use this product.

I also noted, Garnier claim to use natural ingredients wherever possible (which I am a strong advocate for). The charcoal in this facial wash makes the product feel very natural.

Tips: Be careful with application and getting the product on white shower walls.

More like 2-in-1

[ First impression ] The texture is a little grainy, and gloopy. Looks like a very dark grey almost black matter considering it is derived from charcoal. Actually, the first time I saw it it took me back to Year 8 science class when we were using magnets to attract the iron filings!

Considering Garnier states it’s a 3-in-1 Wash/Scrub/Mask I tried to use it separately for each of those purposes. However, I felt like even when I was “washing” my face, due to the finely milled particles, it still felt like I was exfoliating albeit lightly. I tend to only do physical exfoliation once or twice a week so this was a little concerning considering they claim it can be used as a daily face wash. From the first use it didn’t make my face feel super tight and I did feel extremely cleansed which is great.

As a mask I love how time-efficient and fuss-free it is. You only need 5 minutes or less for it to dry then you can rinse it off just using water - no need for an extra cloth. However my face did feel quite tight after use, but that’s to be expected with these kinds of masks.

In terms of removing makeup, which isn’t its sole intention, it didn’t do a good job, but I wouldn’t remove brownie points as the product is geared towards the removal and prevention of blackheads.

[ Review ] I don’t have blackheads to begin with so I’m not sure how effective it is against that, but I do suffer from whiteheads. Unfortunately this hasn’t diminished some annoyingly persistent closed comedones underneath my left eye or some papules I’ve noticed which is disheartening. But then again, I can probably attribute this to my earlier point of it focusing on blackhead prevention.

I’ve noticed that the skin on my cheeks has become quite soft which would have likely been caused by the overexfoliation. Also due to overexfoliating since using this every day and night as a “face wash”, my forehead gets extremely shiny by the end of a work day and quite oily around my nose.

One thing I did really like about it was how easy and efficient it is to use. Just squeeze out a smidge and spread it all over your face then rinse off. What I don’t like is how they proclaim it to be a 3-in-1 solution.

Overall, I’ve taken into account what Garnier have claimed, and my experience of using this product for all 3 purposes, and I do like it, but only as a scrub or mask - most especially as a mask! I can’t get over how quick and easy it is to do especially if you’re like me and start to get antsy about taking more than 10-15 minutes on just a mask. However, considering all the factors, I probably wouldn’t repurchase as there are other scrubs and masks in the market that I prefer over this, and that I personally feel work better for my skin.

Tips: I would strongly emphasise not to use this every day, and definitely not as a face wash. At most, probably once or twice a week as a scrub/exfoliant, and once a week for mask usage, preferably not done on the same days. In that way you won’t be stripping your face of all its natural oils due to overexfoliating and you can let your skin breathe. Always make sure to moisturise after every use!

Not for me.

I received the 3 in 1 mask from Beauty Review as part of a trial team. I quickly put it to work, eager to test out the exfoliating action as I was feeling some texture on my forehead. My skin tends to be combo-oily.

The packaging is pretty standard for a drugstore cleanser. The cap closed very securely, making it difficult to open at times.

The product itself was black, as charcoal cleansers tend to be. It is a bit disconcerting massaging black cream onto your face though! The exfoliant in this product is perlite. I was alarmed at first because of the very plastic-like feel of it and thought it may have been micro beads. Google tells me perlite is NOT micro beads, but can be problematic in their own right. Garnier is also not cruelty free.

As for how it works, my skin felt really nice and smooth after washing but after a few hours there was much more sebum than I'd typically have, and it was a thicker consistency. Due to this, I felt that I did not want to use it as a face mask in case it ramped up the oil production even more. I did use it a few times as a cleanser though, just to be sure that it was what caused the sebum issue.

I will not be using it again. I might pass it on to my niece who is an oily skin sufferer so might have more success with the cleanser than I did.

Tips: Make sure you test it on a day you don't need to leave the house in case it affects your oil production negatively.
