I'm a recent convert to the miracle that is oil cleansing, when I saw this balm released I had mixed feelings but knew I had to give it a try, find the final one of the shelves at Farmers I grabbed it only to find it arrive the following week in the BRBB so now I have 2, which is awesome as I freaking love it already.
Packaging wise the actual balm comes in a lightweight jar, in a semi opaque smoky glass effect plastic. It's short and stubby, round and has a screw off lid. The outer boxing that the jar comes in also has a Trilogy cotton face cloth that is super fine and lightweight but effective for removing the balm, makeup and grime from your face.
Formula wise the balm is set into the jar in a solid waxy state, on first glance it looks a lot like their Trilogy everything balm which confused me, but once I dipped my fingers into the balm I found that it melted almost immediately with my body heat, so that once rubbed between my palms had transformed from a solid wax state to a liquid oil state. There is a very faint scent of mixed florals like lilac and roses but nothing that is overpowering.
Following instructions I apply the balm over my dry unwashed face and massage into all areas concentrating on heavy makeup and waterproof spots. The balm massages nice and easily into the skin so you feel like you are giving yourself a mini spa treatment each time you wash your face. Leaving it to get to work as I submerged the cloth in warm water, then pressing the cloth into my skin slightly rubbing to effectively remove the mess upon my face. The colour of the water in the sink is a huge indication of how much rubbish the balm manages to lift off and out of your skin.
There was no resistance to eye makeup including mascara and liners, of which I tried waterproof versions too. I also did a full face Halloween look over the weekend with multiple layers of makeup and shadows to find that the balm removed it all in one take!!
Highly impressed and with no signs of any breakouts or irritation this is bound to be a product that will be on my bathroom counter for a long time.
I got the Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm as part of the September Beauty box. I'm quite new to Trilogy, having moved over here from the UK, and, although I've never actually used anything from the brand, I've always seen it on shelves in fancy department stores. My normal cleansing routine is to either use a foaming cleanser in the shower or a cream cleanser, but using the Trilogy cleanser was a more luxurious experience altogether. Lightly scented, it melts in your hands and feels velvety on your skin, it melted away my make up including my water proof mascara. The organic face cloth is used to wipe away the product and your make up, the whole process made it feel like I was spending time on myself, rather than rushing my cleansing routine. I think it would be handy to have a couple of the face cloths as you should probably be washing them every few days, they can get quite grubby. I would definitely recommend this as a bit of luxury, you don't have to use a huge amount and you could 'ration it' to make it last longer.
Tips: Use quite warm water in your sink to wipe it off, this will make sure the oiliness of the product is wiped from your face completely.
