Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser Review

The packaging is good. The wide cap allows the tube to stand easily in the shower. There is a strong chemical taste to the product which gets in your mouth if you're not careful. Apart from that I enjoy using the product, it seems to do a deep cleanse and exfoliation.

I wasn't really expecting great things and expecting my pores to shrink with this cleanser. I just wanted to gently get some dry skin off my face. Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser is great, above average, but doesn't really live up to the hype. I've been using it daily for nearly a month now and haven't seen any change in my pores, not even a little. It's quite a large tube and you don't have to use a lot to get what you need. The exfoliating bead are really small and at first it felt completely ineffective, but by the second or third time around I could tell it was exfoliating great and was thankful they're gentle on my skin. My skin would always feel really smooth and slightly moisturized afterward. I'm okay with using it everyday as long as I use it with my evening shower. I find my skin is more sensitive in the morning. I think I would buy it again but I'd want to look at or try other option to see if there's something I'd like better.

Now while I really hadn't expected great things from neutrogena, I had heard rave reviews so figured I'd give it a shot after seeing it in the beauty vault. After using it, I now see the rave reviews were most likely from people who had never used ahas or bhas, and were used to using really harsh physical exfoliants. This isn't a bad product, but it certainly doesn't live up to the hype. While I like that this isn't scratchy, the aha and bha percentage is too low for this to really be a well exfoliating product, also, from a beauty therapy point of view, I don't see how a cleanser containing salicylic acid in a non encapsulated state can refine your pores (some more high end products encapsulate the acid so it stays on the skin), but if the product is rinsed straight off, it's not going to achieve all that much, clearly I didn't see a reduction of my pore size. If you really want to reduce your pores and decongest your skin, you need a leave on salicylic acid gel. I was happy though, that this was sls free, as well as not heavily fragranced or coloured. This didn't sensitise my skin or irritate, so I was happy in that respect. My skin felt fine afterwards, smoother, but nothing to write home about. Also, I don't like that it says for daily use. As a b.t I learnt it's never good to use an exfoliating wash every day, regardless of how gentle. If it's a serum, that's different as they're designed that way, but you can irritate or dry your skin by overuse of exfoliating cleansers. Lastly, as much as this is a generous size, I think $15 for this is a bit steep. Spend your money on a decent aha/bha gel if you really want to refine your pores.

I picked this product up on a whim after seeing it reviewed on you tube. I don't find that it dries my skin out too much but I am very oily. The packaging is good, the product is easy to use and the scrub isn't overly scratchy. I don't think it has made a huge difference in my pores though. It isn't a bad cleanser/exfoliator but I don't know that it lives up to all the claims.

Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleaner, Love the packaging simple and readable without a whole of of information thrown at you, (I read everything). Huge bottle wish was nice so it was going to last ages and easy squeeze to get the product out.

I have to say I am not a fan of the smell of the product, but it doesnt have alot of harsh ingredients in it which is good and could have also contributed to the smell of the product. The exfoliating beads in this product are a nice size so it doesn't feel like your using sandpaper on your face, they are just the right size.

However the product did not say what it was going to do and make my pores appear smaller they are exactly the same size as when I started using the product which to me was really disappointing as its the whole reason i brought it. And I was using it in the shower every night and it the mornings, for me even though I kept my eyes shut this product had a way of creeping in there and is the most painful product I ever have had in my eyes, it hurt and stung so badly, the first time I didnt know what to do with myself, I seriously nearly screamed, but I thought it was my fault and had opened my eyes at some point, so tried it again but every time I use this, it gets in my eyes and they have not created it to be gentle. I do like the fact its soap free but even after use I felt as though my skin was really tight and felt it was too drying for my skin and this comes from someone with oily skin.

Overall am not a fan, I am going to use what I have left but think I will use it as a body exfoliater instead, its too harsh on my eyes. would not recommend to anyone to use this product, Sorry

I have oily combination skin with large pores, so I thought this product would work great.

The first thing I noticed was the smell, it has a very chemical sort of fragrance so definitely avoid this if you need fragrance free products.

In using it I could feel the exfoliating beads buffing my skin but after I had washed it off I was left with a very tight feeling and irritation. After using it twice a week for a few weeks I didn't really notice any change in the size of my pores but I had to stop using it as it made me breakout (it was the only product change to my usual routine) and my skin was quite red due to the tight, slight burning feeling I was left with after use.

I have been using this exfoliating cleanser in conjunction with the Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner for a few months now and I am really happy with the effect it has had on my skin! Because this is an exfoliating cleanser, I use it 2-3 times a week. I have oily skin and generally only break out during that time of the month. My skin is clear most of the time, but I do suffer from large pores and find they are more prominent when wearing makeup. When I first started using this product, I really liked the creamy feel it gave to my skin, and I liked that it left my skin feeling nice and Smooth. After a few weeks of using this product I was disappointed that nothing seemed be happening ! My pores were still large, and my skin had started to break out. I wasn't sure if this was the cause of this cleanser, but I continued to use the product because I didn't want to waste it. Fast forward a few months and I can definitely see a huge improvement in my skin! My pores are less visible, the pores on my cheeks are non existent as well. My skin feels so smooth, and applying make up is so much easier. I have had issues with blackheads across my nose in the past and find this cleanser has also helped prevent those from appearing.This product claims that you will have smaller pores week after week and I do feel that over time this product definitely achieves that. I love this product, it does everything right for my skin type and its so affordable that I will continue to use it.

I got this from the recent beauty vault as it sounded like an interesting product that would be worth a try. I have sensitive dry skin, visible pores around my nose and inner cheek area and get breakouts mostly around my nose, chin, forehead and temples.

First of all this cleanser is surprisingly large compared to similar products and comes in a squeezable opaque tube. It is a creamy colour and consistency with tiny 'exfoliating beads'. At first I didn't think there was any issue with the scent but once I started rubbing it on my face I noticed a strong chemical smell...not what you want products you are cleansing your delicate face skin with and rubbing near your eye area! Even if this product was miraculous (which I did not find it) I would be totally put off using it due to this horrible scent! I found it also stung my eyes a lot! Even when I had them tightly shut and tried my best to thoroughly rinse the product of the aroma or product in the air just irritated my eyes. Not a pleasant experience at all.

Although this is marketed as 'dermatologically tested' it is not a product for sensitive skin in my opinion. Although the physical exfoliants in this product (the beads) are not particularly harsh the chemical part of it I found too harsh for everyday use and it has severely irritated my lips.

I have been using this for a few weeks now and I am not very impressed with the results. It has not done anything for my breakouts, has not visibly minimised my pores much at all (maybe ever so slightly but not in a way that would counteract the negatives I have experienced with this product.) and I do not feel it sufficiently cleanses or exfoliates my face.

This is a mid price range cleanser and although it makes some lovely claims I do not think it stands up to these and is definitely not worth the money.

This is a really easy product to use and achieves a light exfoliation and really takes make up off at same time Under $20 and available at Farmers and grocers it is easy to find. This made my skin feel really soft and after using for 4 weeks I can see the pores of my skin don't look so obvious.
