Schick Hydro Silk Razor

I was definitely a fan of the five blades and the motion of the razor was excellent, however the hydrating strip drove me a little bit crazy. It was sticky and clogged up the blades meaning the razor was barely functioning to begin with. On first use there was moisturiser flowing from razor. Once that settled down the shave was close, my legs were lovely and smooth and it didn't irritate my skin. I wouldn't go for this razor again but I would purchase a similar one.

Shick Hydro Silk Razor

I was on the recent trial team for this product.

Here is my review:

This shaving system was easy to use, had a good pivot head and though it was super sharp, it felt safe to speed shave with the specifically angled 5 blades - no nicks or cuts to report.... The handle was a good shape and nice and wide at the base with a grip gel side and a hard side, this meant I had no trouble keeping a grip on it with slippery hands. There was a complimentary travel case that clipped around the head of the shaver for safe storage and the shave was close to the skin - so no complaints there!

However, it claims "Water-Activated Moisturising Serum infused with hydrating marine extracts and shea butter gives back moisture to your skin for up to two hours after shaving" - I didn't get any of this 'hydration' effect from this product.

I carefully followed the instructions but I found there was not enough serum to shave with and there was no resulting hydration feel. My skin felt dry - like normal. I ended up having to use addition lather to shave and moisturiser post shave........ Not what I expected.

I would be unlikely to buy this product as I the price for refill blades is a turnoff and not worth it in my opinion. I have had better results with other shick shaving systems (Schick Venus is a good one) that are cheaper on refills and a little less flashy. I would recommend a cheaper alternative is the way to go.

Tips: If you favour shaving systems, stick with the cheaper no-frill ones as they give the same results but don't hurt your bank balance when maintaining them.

Not the best but pretty good!

This razor was pretty good it done the job and left my legs feeling super smooth but the serum was so slimy and only lasted about three shaves so none exactly perfect but pretty good none the less.

Tips: Go slowly! It's quite prone to giving you cuts if you run it over your legs too quickly.

Average product

I found this shaver quite good only thing I don't really like about it was once the soapy stuff around the razor gets abit wet it's very gooey and only lasts a few shaves apart from that it's good I would use it again

Tips: Keep as much out of water as you can

Not as amazing as I had hoped!

First impressions: The packaging for this razor is easy to get into, which is something I can't say for its sister product (the Schick Intuition).

Five blades seems to be the most that razor brands are putting in their products at the moment. A little excessive? I've never had a problem with three bladed razors. I wonder how far this will go, maybe in five years we'll be seeing eight bladed razors?

This razor comes with a little travel cap which clips over the head. Nice touch, but I wish it came with a shower mount too, so it doesn't end up going rusty from sitting on the floor in my shower.

The razor head has a "water-activated moisturising serum" around the blade area. Another nice touch, although I found when I first used the razor that a little too much of the serum was "activated" and it ended up clogging the blades.

I didn't see as close a shave with this as I could achieve with the Schick Intuition, which is a bummer. I also cut my knee! I've been shaving my legs for ten years and this has got to be the first time in literally years I've cut myself. I guess this is a testament to how sharp the blades are!

In conclusion... well, this razor does its job. It certainly removes body hair. I'm not in LOVE with it, but I'll definitely keep using it.

Good job shaving not so sure about moisturising

I'm not so sure about the whole moisturising aspect about this razor as I did not notice my skin feeling any softer after using it. The travel case it comes with is really handy for storing in your toilet bag. The handle also fits nicely in my hand.

Tips: I would still moisturise after using

Afraid I disagree....

....I have NEVER cut myself shaving before. But, with Hydro Silk? different story. It was a nightmare! I had cuts galore.

On the positive side however, what wasn't cut skin that later turned into unsightly sores, was very soft and smooth.

...still looking for that perfect razor...if it exists!

Razor

I sue this razor, I feel this is a great razor if the blade is new, once it gets blunt it does start to give me a rash. Otherwise it is a good razor!

Not for me

Yes, the 5 blades work incredibly well to create a close shave, but I found my skin just couldn't handle it and I was often left with sore skin or lots of little nicks. The little moisturising bars also disappeared after the second use which I found a bit disappointing. I would use again if my usual razors were unavailable but definitely not my first choice.

Didn't like it

Doesn't do a great job and doesn't last long, for the first time I got shaving rash in my pits using it. Won't buy it again

Tips: Only buy on special
