Good, but they keep discontinuing my shades!

I've been a long-time fan of the Excellence range, but they seem to phase out my colours! I adored the Copper Blonde, and I got so many compliments when I was that colour. When they phased it out I switched to Copper Penny (which was way more red), but I can only find this shade on one of the deal sites. I'm switching to blonde now, using another l'Oreal product (the Mousse Absolute range - I bought a few boxes while I was overseas).

I really like the Excellence range, my colour almost always turns out the way it looks on the box. It doesn't fade as quickly as other brands I've tried.

Current Favourite

I have black hair and use Ash Blonde 8.1 to achieve a really nice ashy brown colour. I re-do my roots once a month. This is my go-to hair-dye and is really easy to apply.

Top marks

This is easy to apply and there is plenty of it for people with long or thick hair. The colour matches to the box and it covers grey hair really well. It feels and smells gentler than most home colouring kits. If you want an easy to use product this is one of the best

Standard Home-dye Kit

This product is your standard dye-your-own-hair-kit. has a lovely scented condition to give it that shiny soft feel after colouring. Covers greys well, but does fade after a while making the grey stand out. Colours are pretty accurate on chart, but can appear dull without a shine product to follow.

Quality at home colour

I have used this in black for many years - it is one of the few jet blacks on the market that has slightly warm undertones and doesn't give my hair that slightly blue sheen. Lovely conditioning treatment comes with the colour too. Leaves the hair feeling and smelling luxurious afterwards, one of the better brands in terms of not leaving my hair feeling straw-like. Only downfall for me is my super thick hair requires two packets and sometimes almost three at it's longest so this is not an affordable option for me and it is almost more cost effective for me to have it done in a salon than to use this product. Touchups not so bad as I can get away with just the one box but the initial all over colouring outlay is not worth it for me.

Tips: Great product if you only need to use one box at a time!

Hides my Greys

Have used this product alot in the past. It fully covers my greys and leaves my hair with a nice soft sheen. I think it does as good as job as any hair dying I have has in a salon.

Tips: Leave it on for the full amount of time suggested for the best coverage

Covers Grey beautifully

I have a lot of grey hair and find it difficult to find a product that works. L'Oreal Excellence gives brilliant coverage & a nice natural colour. My hair grows fast so I have regrowth showing within two weeks. L'Oreal is gentle enough to use regularly. My hair stays shiny and soft and doesn't dry out which is really important to me as I have really long hair and don't get it trimmed often. My hairdresser is always surprised that there's hardly any build up of colour in the ends. L'Oreal Excellence comes with a nice conditioner that lasts two or three washes (depending on how much you use). The only drawback is the price. I would definitely use it it again. I used Dark Brown.

Tips: When covering regrowth only cover the roots and grey areas to avoid build up, unless you are using a completely different colour.

Love it...on sale.

The product works really well, and the range of colors is amazing! i live by these for lightening/ombreing my hair. Only issue is that I think they're slightly pricey, and I only buy them on sale. The smell is truly not that bad, and easily tolerable considering all its plus points!

Once bitten

I was going through a through a blonde/golden brown phase for about 3 years and I was in search for that "perfect shade" and this was one of the first dyes I tried. Being a more expensive box dye I was pretty much expecting the moon and stars for my hair.

My hair is naturally black so I had no expectations of going blonde from my natural hair. My hair had already been coloured and lightened by a disappointing dye which made my hair a shade of orange rather than any shade of blonde.

I was excited to try this dye and got the lightest shade of golden blonde in hopes to soften and take away the orange tinge in my hair but also hoping for some golden/honey blonde as my hair was already lightened.

The colour creme is really luxurious and I understand the price because it feels as though you're dunking your hair in aqueous cream. It is so thick and creamy. The conditioner provided was to dye for and made my hair so soft and very silky.

Wow wee when I rinsed the colour developer from my hair it was the most gorgeous shade of BROWN!! (according to my friends). I was so upset and livid because I wasted my money on this product and not to mention waste my time looking like a clown. I walked around with a orange hair shade for about 6 weeks because I was aware of the dilemnas I could create dying my hair in short intervals.

Maybe the Loreal dye hated the previous dye I used and turned brown, I'm not sure, but I never bought this dye this dye again and never will. I'm not chemist but I'm pretty sure the lightest shade of blonde is never meant to turn BROWN!

I've used many other dyes since and not had this problem of going brown with any other hair dye when I hair is pre lightened.

Hun, I think that may be because 1. I the dye deposit from your black>brown may affect the effectiveness of this dye if it wasn't too long ago. 2. blonde box dyes usually aren't very strong 3. this series is not known for large color jumps

the best grey coverage

Have been colouring my hair at home for ten years or so, my Mum used to be a hairdresser and does it, I have been grey since my late 20's so do a blonde shade for coverage, do every 6 weeks or so and sometimes and in betweeny hairline touch up and Mum trims, then do a salon visit every few months for cut and highlights or low lights a couple of times a year for a freshen up and change. This is hands down the most reliable hair colour product on the market, I have tried at least 5 other types at various times as they have been on special and this is the best one, any L'Oreal one is worth paying the extra bit for, if it goes on special I stock up. I use the blondes and have tried different looks, it always comes out as its says it will on the hair colour comparison before/after chart, there are never any horrible surprises and the colour lasts the longest, you get the most body and volume and shine after. The only one to use really. Especially if you have grey cover needing doing. If there were more workshops or something in how to apply home colour for a friend more people would do this, but then the salons could also look at offering a top up service - hairline etc and not charge you a full colour price. You don't have to walk out everytime with perfect blow wave hair, you just want your roots done !!
