Loreal retouch

I found the colour a good match, dark brown, easy to use, lasts till next wash so that was great, blended really well with natural colour, what I didn't like is it made my hair go frizzy on top where I sprayed so had to use more oil product to stop if frizz.

Tips: Worth a try

A must have

I tried this out of curiousity at a time when I didn't have time to dye my roots, and so I was looking for a quick fix to hide some greys! This did the trick just fine. It gave me an extra few weeks of grace. I have now purchased my second bottle and have already quietly thanked loreal for making this product! It's definately an Inbetween dye thing though...not an alternative to dying your hair. Also, my hair is close to black, but the shop only had brown in stock. It made no difference really since our hair has highlights anyway.

Tips: Style your hair first and then spray at end.

Magic retouch

This comes in a aqua coloured aerosol with a label showing the colour and a sticker on top showing the colour of the product which makes it really easy to see the colour you require. The product is easy to apply and the instructions on the container are clear -Shake well, 10 cm from regrowth and not too much. I have been using this for 3 months and have just come to the end and am really pleased with the result. I initially purchased when I saw it on sale at the warehouse for $14.95 as I was looking for a product to save having to colour my hair too often ( I was colouring the regrowth every 3 weeks and felt this was not only not good for my hair condition but also worry about allergic reactions as I have a sensitive skin) I have only applied on the crown of my hair and where my hair falls in natural parts and this is sufficient to delay re colouring for approx 2 weeks. The colour which I purchased was dark brown and this blends really well with very little effort on my part. I now only retouch my hair colour every 5 to 6 weeks and my hair is in much better condition than it was. The colour is tempory and washes out with shampoo but so easy to reapply and takes just seconds to get it done so no effort and the result is really natural.

Tips: Apply to obvious regrowth and not too much .A damp cloth handy if you make a mistake and spray your face.

L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch Review

I have been using this little can of Magic for a while now and have always been really pleased with the results. My fair and highlighted hair of course looks good initially, but about a month later the dreaded grey roots appear (again) especially visible at the sides. After reading reviews on this site I bought a can of this product and sprayed the offending places and it was amazing just how effective it was straight away. It means that I get a few more weeks before I go to the hairdresser - and this of course is a great saving, and the result looks so natural . It's a great product and I am so thrilled that I discovered it, and even the hair salons use it as I discovered recently.

Tips: My hair is blonde and the colour that I buy is Light Brown as I think it makes it look as though my regrowth is brown - not grey - haha

Just given my roots a mighty spray with this, and still marvel at its magic. Getting my hair done tomorrow, but need to look good today and in seconds I have achieved that as I spray away the offending areas - particularly helpful to use at the sides

Sitting on fence a bit with this one...

I received this Loreal Paris Magic Retouch hair concealer spray (in the new, improved blonde shade) in the post on Saturday (thanks BR team & love your eco-friendly, compostable bags that you use to send out products in btw, big thumbs up there! Eco-warrior Greta Thunberg would be singing your praises right now!).

You might be wondering why I tried this product out pretty much as soon as I got it and the answer is: ‘sheer desperation’! I am flying out to Wellington today for a mini-break, so I wanted to review this before heading away. I’m also incredibly overdue to re-dye my hair so this product came at just the right time for me and I was super keen to give it a go (I hate grey hairs and dark regrowth - not a great look!).

Firstly, it comes in a nifty little spray can that’s cute and easy to use. I got to work on my roots straight away, spraying it 10cm away from my hair and holding the can upright, as per the instructions. I didn’t find it messy to use at all and it didn’t leave any streaks/drops of colour anywhere in my bathroom, which is great. It also doesn’t contain ammonia or peroxide, so it’s not harsh on your hair or scalp. I haven’t had any reaction after using it.

Unfortunately though, despite my desire to have nicely-blended roots with this product, my roots remain very dark. I’d love to be able to tell you otherwise because it looks like I’ll be getting on the plane today with regrowth intact (ugh!). However, my hair colour is naturally quite dark, so perhaps if you have lighter natural hair-colouring than mine, then this blonde shade might work better? It was possibly the wrong shade for me - perhaps I need an even lighter shade to make much of a difference). I dye my hair quite light blonde, so this product DID have its work cut out for it in trying to blend my natural hair colour to the rest of my dyed hair!

On a positive note, although this product doesn’t lighten my roots much, it DOES cover grey strands quite well - wrong shade or not! So that’s a massive plus, particularly if you have quite a few cheeky greys poking through. I don’t have heaps of them yet thankfully, but I can’t stand having any! So I was very pleased with how well it worked for me in that regard.

On balance, I give this product three kisses. It does what it says it can do in terms of providing grey coverage and that’s why I don’t believe it deserves a rating of less than three kisses. It achieves its main goal. However, I was disappointed that it didn’t appear to lighten my regrowth at all. L’Oréal though have specifically marketed this spray concealer as providing ‘temporary grey coverage’, so they are on point there. It just couldn’t cope with lightening my naturally darker roots at all, and perhaps it was wishful thinking on my part to believe it could.

Tips: Be careful about which shade you choose. It covers grey strands well, but you may not achieve the desired result in terms of colour coverage... I think it’s best to consider your natural hair colouring when buying this product as it’s clearly not a miracle worker when trying to lighten overly dark roots.

a little heavy handed ....

I'm relatively grey around my face and on top of my head, so needless to say I'm touching up my roots often.

I trialled the L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch spray, in a light brown. My hair tends to be light brown with a tinge of auburn at the moment, so it seemed like the best match.

The spray itself has a nice narrow nozzle for accurate spraying where needed.

Using it, I found it a little messy and found droplets in the sink where I was applying it - maybe I held it too close to my head, but to get a level of accuracy when applying to my roots I needed to hold it relatively close. It also felt incredibly cold too apply, and really 'blasted' the colour out. For me, the colour seemed to have a green tint to it, and while it blended okay with my hair colour, around my hair line it was too obvious, and too green. It felt like I'd painted hair colour on badly rather than lightly touching up my greys/roots. In my parting, the coverage and naturalness was much better, but that may be helped by the fact that I can't look too closely at the top of my head. The husband thought it looked 'okay' though.

Assuming you get the right shade, it definitely covers the greys well, and doesn't appear to come off on my hands or clothing through the day, so it wears really well until its washed out.

I tend to use 'mascara' touch ups rather than a spray, but the green tint in the Light Brown shade I received was really off putting for me, and the product dispersed in quite a heavy manner, which also wasn't to my liking. Any attempt to spray lightly resulted in the splatters of product in the sink, so it seemed to be an 'all or nothing' kind of application.

Not the product for me unfortunately.

'Use in Case of Emergency!'

This Magic Retouch is essentially a long lasting colour hairspray.

I've not used these sort of products much, in fact only once before, many years ago. So in comparison to that, I thought this was an improvement but still not fantastic.

My hair is a bit salt and pepper in colour, I do have to dye it, as I'm not ready to be grey yet! Budget calls for home dye, to cover the grays and regrowth is a pain. It's especially noticeable around the temples, hence it would be useful to have a quick fix to this, without having to put all of my hair through the dying process as often as I do.

My hopes were in this product to save me from that and it is quite good, the colour match/blend was spot on. I used the Auburn shade, which blended well with my natural colour, dark brown and the Auburn/Chestnut colours I dye it and the grey coverage was impressive.

The application wasn't too bad either, with its directional spray. It has a longer more precise nozzle, but I still managed to get some on the top of my ears and a few spots on my forehead, so it's not perfect but it cleaned off quite easily with a damp cloth. You'll want to hold the can relatively close, say 5cms to your hair so as not to get it on your clothes.

I used it to cover the most noticeable areas around my temples and on top of my head and that used up about half the can! Why is the product so small? It felt pretty cold as it went on but didn't take long to dry and then didn't notice it but it did make my hair feel sort of waxy and sort of powdery at the same time? To be honest it made it feel dirty and as someone who loves the feeling of clean hair, I actually couldn't cope with the 'dirty build up' feeling. Also, I do tend to touch my hair (more than I realised actually) and found that the product came off onto my nails and hands more easily than I would like. It did also transfer onto material relatively easily, so you wouldn't want to go to sleep with it on as it'll be all over your pillowcase or rest your head on anyones shoulder! It also dries quite matte looking, so if your hair is naturally quite shiny, it dulls it down quite a bit, which isn't great.

In the shower though I did notice just the water didn't make it run, which is a relief if you were to get caught in the rain you'd be ok! Once I put a a tiny bit of shampoo in, it began to come out very easily, but it took a couple of washes to get it all out.

I also noticed, due to the silicone in it, it's not 'Curly Girl' friendly (which is what I try to be most of the time, as I have curly hair) so it was a bit of a bummer that I had to use shampoo to get it out, thankfully it didn't ruin my curl pattern.

In closing, it is a good product. It covers and blends well and it lasts relatively well. It's what you want in the cupboard for those 'emergency' occasions when you need to look good for a short amount of time but haven't had the chance to sort those roots! Also due to the size and price would say use only in emergencies!!

Tips: Use sparingly and perhaps style your hair first and only spray the bits that can be seen, to make the product last a bit longer (due to the small product size).

Great little touch up

It was great to trial this little magic retouch. Comes in a bright turquoise can, small enough for travel and to go into your purse if needed. Doesn't have a smell at all. Shake well before you spray and don't hold the can too close to your hair. Did a great job of covering up my greys and blended well into my hair. Be careful when spraying that it doesn't get onto your face, rinse off straight away if it does. Stayed in my hair until the next wash, two days and was perfect for between colouring appointments as just go grey along my part on top of my head. Would use again,.

Tips: Make sure you pick the correct colour for your hair type otherwise it might be noticeable.

Sorry I wasn't really impressed :(

So my biggest problem is its not really that easy to spray and not end up with a brown scalp and therefore looks fake, and if you try wipe the scalp, you wipe colour off the hair. It makes your hair feel like straw, but thats just a temporary thing, once you wipe, wash, brush, your hair goes back to normal. And last negative is that if you touch your hair a lot like I seem to, it just wipes off. On Greys it does take the edge off them, but they do look less shiny bright. I guess for its cost its ok doing what it said it would do, but not for me sorry.

Tips: Make sure you get the right colour. And not good for people that touch their hair, it wipes/brushes off.

Magic Retouch to Soften the Natural Highlights

L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch is a wonderful little pocket product that takes away the stress when you look in the mirror and find your natural highlights (grey) or roots (eeek darker than blond) have reappeared overnight,

It comes in a small, compact size aerosol spray with a nozzle that allows you to be very precise in applying it to the hair part or roots that need that extra attention. One application and voila those roots were back in line with the rest of my hair. It covered the darker roots with ease and was very easy to apply resulting in a blended coverage result.

I found that it worked well but made my hair feel a little bit crunchy - which is to be expected when you are putting a paint on product on your hair. There wasn't any colour transfer to my towels when washed or my bedsheets/pillow when sleeping.

I found this a good product, that does what it states it will (cover greys) and it was easy to use. The compactness makes it an easy add to the handbag or travel bag to ensure that when the moment comes that all of a sudden there are greys popping up there is a solution to get through until the next hair appointment or something more permanent can be done.

Tips: Spray gently and precisely so the product doesn't go all over your bathroom. Use close to a hair wash day as it feels a little crunchy on the hair/scalp. Ideal for in between salon visits to make you feel like your hair is not two toned - colour vs grey/dark roots.
