the holy trinity of fruity masks

i love hair masks, and i love these garnier hair masks. they're affordable, are generous with their sizing and they last literally forever because you don't need heaps! and they are nearly always on sale somewhere for half price! what more could you want!!!

i bought papaya not expecting to be wowed, and more to finish my fruit cocktail of hair masks (i already had the banana and goji). me being me i couldn't wait and i mixed all 3 together and used them - heaven. my hair smelled so darn good i wanted to eat it.

by itself though, this mask is great. the smell is fruity but not overpowering. it's enough to make you wanna shake your body while using it and sing the pina colada song. this is a repairing mask so i was interested to see if it was going to help my ends or not, or just help in general.

to be honest i didn't notice it repair anything, but man the hydration! my hair felt salon soft! i applied it as a hair mask to damp hair (i sprayed my hair with a spray bottle), and then i placed all of it in a hot towel for 5 minutes before showering and shampooing it out. i followed with a tiny bit of this down the ends and rinsed. salon soft, i'm telling you!!!

it may not be expensive but man it's impressive. the size, the impact it has, the smell alone... it's just a glorious product. im so glad garnier made these, for real. they're going to be a staple in my cupboard for a long time yet. this is definitely a hype i'm glad i bought into.

Tropical Retreat

After reading all the fantastic reviews I decided to add this one to my stash . I got this one along with the Goji berry one.My hair is thick and dry especially on the ends .

Packaging comes in a large sized pot . Labelling is bright and reminiscent of the fruit . Consistency is thick and creamy . This scent reminds me of freshly sliced papayas. It takes me on a tropical journey with this sweet explosion of summery fruits. I like to grab a table spoon of it .I brush it through my thick hair . It melts in easily . I like to leave it in for a few hours . The longest ever was a 9 hour shift . I know naughty . But when I got home and rinsed it out my hair was soft and hydrated. My hair smelled wonderful. I like to use it as my leave in conditioner . I don’t have hair drying time in the morning. This saves my hair from having a damp smell.

So far my tub has lasted me over a month with daily usage . Sometimes I reduce to every second to third day . It’s priced fairly . When I see it on special I buy it . I’ll keep buying this one.

Find the variety that works best for your hair

I'm a huge fan of hair food, however this variety isn't the best for my hair which is dry and frizzy with waves. Its probably best suited for straight hair which isn't overly dry. The macadamia and aloe versions however are AMAZING for my hair.

However, that being said for the price and not to mention tub size even with average result in conditioning my hair this is definitely worth a try to see if it works for you. Worst case you can use it up as a conditioner.

The smell is pleasant fruity fragrance that's not overly strong. It's a lovely thick texture as all hair foods are and if I had not tried other varieties I'd have been pretty happy with the purchase as a conditioner. It is reasonably moisturising.

I love Garnier as a brand and this range is definitely worth trying out

Perfect size

I love the Hair food Mask! My hair loves it too ! It smells amazing! The price point this product is at and the amount of cream you get is amazing! I have thick hair & it takes a lot of product. I use this product apart of my styling routine. I have dry, frizzy tick curly hair ! & this product is Curly Hair friendly! The products are gentle and good for curly hair. And its approved for Curly hair. I use this cream along with the Gariner serum perfect combo.

Tips: Use this with Gariner Serum, works like a treat!

Garnier Goodness

I feel very lucky to be on this trial, my hair was feeling drab, dry & generally unloved, although I was regularly using hair oils and other treatments. Firstly the tub is a value size, I’ve now seen this product at the supermarket for around $15, which is a good price for a hair mask, and when you get a tub this size, it is very good value. I have used it as a conditioner in the shower, very easy to fit in my regime, when it only needs to be in your hair for a few minutes, just right amount of time to wash the rest of me, and shave my legs.

The scent is nice and fruity, yum! But I didn’t find it overwhelming. The texture is nice and thick, and easy to scoop in my hand as well as distribute through my thick hair easily.

I also used it as a leave in conditioner, and found it didn’t weigh my hair down, but I definitely used more than they recommended. But I have thick hair so felt it needed more.

Results are in and I am very happy, the ends of my hair were very dry almost brittle, not my hair is softer, the ends are better and I feel a lot more confident to wear my hair out again, rather than hiding it in a messy bun.

This is a product I’ll purchase in the future.

Tips: Apply to the ends of your hair first, scrunching it and work up the the roots.

A 3 in 1

On receiving this in the mail, my first impression was delight at the size of the container. Most of my hair products sit around 250ml so this was a treat at 390ml.

Upon opening it, it reminded me of a big container of body butter. The shape, colour, texture and even packaging all reminded me of some body butters I've used.

The packaging itself is interesting reading. An ingredient list is shown that highlights the source of the ingredients, showing most of them as from vegetable origin. It also makes a point of announcing that there are no parabens, silicones or artificial colours in this product. Overall the ingredients in this product were some of the best I've seen in a hair conditioning product. And I agree they need the 2% of ingredients of non natural origin for efficacy and preservation.

Now onto using the product. It can be used three ways; as a mask, a conditioner or a leave in.

I tried it as a leave in first. Much like other leave in's I've used, I found the effects limited and had to be careful how much product I used to ensure it didn't weigh the hair down and make it greasy.

The second way I used it was as a conditioner. This could easily work as a conditioner and I like that it can be a substitute as I often run out of conditioner before I do shampoo. Unlike as a leave in, to be an effective conditioner, I used the product liberally.

And finally I tried it as a mask. Much like as a conditioner I used the product liberally and found my hair felt a little softer and protected for the next 24 hours. But overall no other effects.

What I wasn't struck on with the packaging was that when using it in the shower it needs to be kept away from the water more than a tube does. But on the plus side it is very easy to get the product out.

Tips: Use a little if leaving in and a lot if washing out.

Smells amazing

I was first and foremost surprised at the size of this! It was far bigger than most hair mask like products I have ever purchased, it meant I didn't feel like I had to scrimp on the amount I used. The texture and smell are awesome, it made the entire shower smell so good and fruity.

Although for the most part I liked this product I am not so sure about the actual results. My hair didn't feel particularly smoother or stronger after use and I feel like it had about the same efficacy as a standard conditioner rather than a stand alone treatment. Overall I think it's a nice little extra to have but perhaps would not recommend it if you are really trying to help with damaged hair.

Absolute bargain

I purchased this after reading all the positive reviews on here. I have damaged hair due to years of bleaching and dyeing it, so this product was ideal for me. The product comes in a ridiculously large tub for only ten dollars, which is super economical. The mask is very thick so a little goes a long way. The smell is amazing, it's a super intense tropical papaya scent. I loved that the scent was strong enough to linger in my hair after a shower. I used this both as a conditioner, and once a week as a hair mask. This washed out easily, and my hair felt so much healthier after using this. My hair was way softer, silkier, managable and healthy. I really noticed how much good this did for my hair, after I used this up and switched to a different hair mask. This is truly a lifesaver option in the supermarket for damaged hair and such a bargain. I will soon be repurchasing this!

Garnier Fructis Hair Food Papaya

I was excited to try this product as the concept seems really fun and fresh. I tried it in all ways the tub suggested, and while I was pretty sceptical of its multi-use promise, I was pleasantly surprised.

The massive ‘98% natural’ on the lid was one of the first things I noticed. I wasn’t really a fan of that - felt a bit like Garnier was jumping on the ‘natural’ bandwagon for the sake of being on the bandwagon.

I did however find that it was an amazing scent (probably not natural, but very tropical so perfect for these cold Winter days) - reminds me of a Body Shop lipbalm I used to have - maybe the mango flavour. Might be a bit too much of a fruity/sweet mix for some, but I found it just right.

I loved that it was a huge tub, it contains so much product! We don’t have a shelf in the shower though so found it a little tricky to get the product out - was a couple of times where when trying to maneuver the tub and get the lid back on before water got in, the product slipped of my fingers and down the drain. Small price to pay though for the amount you get.

I was really surprised how nice my hair felt after using it post-shower and leaving it in. It felt very weird to do so considering in the days before I’d washed the same product out, but using a small amount didn’t weigh my hair down (just like it promised) or make it feel sticky. It actually did make my hair feel very smooth! I like that it advised on the tub how much to use and where to focus the product (mid length to ends) if you plan to use it as a leave in product, directions can never be too specific!

I wouldn’t bother using it in shower as a hair mask post-conditioner. It wasn’t too rich or as thick as most treatments, so I would save time and just use it as a conditioner (keep it in your hair for a minute or so), and/or post shower.

I love the concept - I would be keen to try the other ‘flavours’ in the range, if only for the scents (I bet the macadamia one smells amazing!). Plus, while RRP is still TBC, I’m sure it’ll be a great price for the huge amount of product you get It wasn’t a life changing product (I don’t know that I can feel it actually repairing my hair), but it’s certainly a nice addition to my hair care routine.

Winner-Winner

Firstly - at this stage in my life, I’m not a fan of supermarket products. I know it’s wrong but I like luxury products - so high end cosmetics, salon shampoos and cosmeceuticals are my favourite things! So the fact that I actually love this product is quite a find for me.

The generous size is amazing value for money. Screw top packaging, not so great, in a shared situation the thought of other grubby little hands scooping a blob out is not so enticing. And yes- this product will be used by every mum, teenager, tween in the house. Why? It smells so good, like body shop body butter fruity smelling good.

My hair is very long, very dry and frizzy. I used it as directed - in all 3 ways - conditioner, mask and leave in treatment. I did feel a little wasteful using it as just conditioner but I do tend to let my conditioner sit for a bit so I feel I still got the benefits. Well - I know I did because my hair was soft, easy to comb and shiny. I wasn’t planning to use it as a leave in (might have made my hair too greasy) but my daughter came and said ‘look how nice my hair is today’ - when questioned she had ‘borrowed’ my hair food and used it as a leave in on her curly, coarse hair. It was shiny and smooth and the curls were to die for. So then it became everyone’s - 4 females using it. We all love it. I will definitely buy it again.

It’s consistency is like that of a thick white conditioner so it’s easy to scoop out but I would prefer a pump for ease in the shower and hygiene. I find if I squeeze out excess water before applying I don’t need to use as much product and the results are better.

Tips: Be prepared to share it with any female in the house! Lucky it’s such a great size so there is plenty to go around.
