Tips: It says can be used as a leave in mask but I find it too heavy to use as a leave in product it weighs my hair down.
My frizzy dry follicles went looking for a drink and found salvation in this smoothie-like hair mask.
Described as an "intense conditioner" for "dry hair", this Garnier Fructis Nourishing Banana Hair Food is softening, moisturising, and smells and feels like banana custard.
It is ninety-eight percent of natural origin, with no parabens, silicones (no greasy feel), and no artificial colourants.
It is fun to scoop out, in a chunky fun pottle, much more satisfying than a measly squeeze bottle dispensing a drizzle. It is a huge tub, 390ml, so offers very good value for money at $12.99 rrp. Most supermarkets sell it.
I will definitely purchase it again, as the results and the smell are bananas, as in very good.
Tips: Leave it on for longer than the 1 minute on pottle, if you can, as the smell will settle in more.
I purchased this after seeing all the rave reviews about the product and how it had done wonders for everybody's hair. I had ran out of my salon product and popped into a store to buy something and seen this on special and though to myself - why the heck not?
The smell is yummy! I have only tried the banana one but I can imagine the rest smell just as good.
The texture is thick, as to be expected with any hair treatment product. But what gets me is that you can use it several ways, including as a leave in.
I sadly didn't end up using all of this as I found it just didn't work for my hair. It didn't feel any different, nor did it fell repair, moisturised in comparison to normal. The only thing was that it felt heavier.
Would I buy it again? No. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. The reason being everyone has different hair types and people find that one thing works for them and doesn't for someone else. Plus it's cheap so why not?1
If anyone out there loves their banana, this is product you must try for your hair conditioning needs. It’s a hair mask, conditioner, and leave-in treatment 3 in 1. Although it doesn’t smell strongly of real banana, it’s lovely sweet scent was light enough to make even those who won’t usually go for banana flavours, to keep sniffing it. It was so.. good... I really enjoyed having this scent around me while i was hair washing, too bad the scent didn’t last long. Well, have to consider the fact that it’s a natural product after all... That’s a bonus!
After drying, my long hair felt light and soft, but it looked like it was double straightened with a straightener. It was just hanging down flat straight on both sides of my face looking a little too straight.
However, my hair looked better the next morning i woke up. It had some of it’s bounce back. And was very easy to comb through.
My hair is very straight already, so i tend to love products that can give my dehydrated and sometimes malnourished long hair a little healthy bounce and volume (as well as giving me that silky smoothness feel). However, i don’t think it’s the products fault. I think i’ll love it more after getting that hair cut. But for now, i think the more intensely nourishing macadamia hair food also from the Garnier fructis range worked much better in satisfying my now long hair.
Overall, this product would be a good choice for those who wants to enjoy a nicely scented hair wash ritual with a natural product, and lightly nourished, straight, soft and weight-less hair that’s easy to comb.
Recommend trying out other hair mask products in this Garnier range. Amazingly they even have one in goji berry.
First off, this is a huge pot! Very good value. Oh my gosh the scent is dreamy, sweet like banana lollies, so nice. This hair food is thick and deliciously creamy, a little goes a long way. I use as a conditioner after washing with the banana shampoo bar and it glides through my hair like butter. This product is fantastic! It's nourishing, my hair appears less dry but at the same time it does not weigh my fine hair down! I always find my hair looks flat after day 1 but these two combined I have volume for days. I love this treatment and will buy again, I've not used a moisturizing product in the past that wasn't heavy so this is a winner!
Tips: A little goes a long way
I've used this has a hair mask, conditioner and leave in conditioner for my daughter's hair. It leaves her hair so soft and manageable. Hair washing has become a breeze and there's no tears due to knots with this product. We love it, and she loves the banana scent.
I recently tried Garnier Fructis Hair Food ‘Banana’, and I must say that I find the consistency of this banana-enriched one a bit better than some of the other variations I’ve used in this range. This one just seems to have the perfect consistency, making it a piece of cake to rinse out! So that is one of the reasons I have given this one the full five kisses. I am a big fan of the range anyway, but Banana gets top-of-the-class marks from me!
The smell is lovely and banana-y, but nothing too strong - it’s a pleasant, subtle banana fragrance, which works well in harmony with the shea butter and coconut oil that this hair food has also been enriched with.
I’m a big fan of the Garnier Fructis hair food range, but so far Banana is my favourite - for its perfect consistency for my hair and its fragrance.
Highly recommend for all hair types.
Let me start off by saying WOW. I have coloured hair and it is more on the dry side. I am really impressed with this product. Previously, I had been using olaplex on my hair with okay results. This miracle in a jar blew that out of the water! I used it all three ways to see which was the best for me. Damp/dry hair, after conditioner, and as a conditioner. This is crazy because I have always used hydrating conditioners and then a treatment and the best result for me was using this in place of my conditioner, left on a couple of mins and rinsed out. When I used it the other ways I felt it did the same but wasted more product(s). My hair felt SO smooth while I was rinsing it out and I was already impressed. I thought it would dry out with the blow dryer but NOPE. After blow drying my hair, it was so soft and I had hardly any frizz to control! This product is so inexpensive and is a super natural product. Full of good stuff, leaving the toxic chemicals in the dust, and the smell would make any minion go crazy. I absolutely LOVE the smell. It stays in your hair after you shower a little bit but it becomes more of a mature fragrance and it’s really just beautiful. My boyfriend keeps commenting on how good my hair smells. I know I will be using this for a very long time. I have already gone online and ordered 3 of these babies to send to a couple of my friends. Truly a life changer for my hair!
Tips: Try it if you have dry hair! It will become your hair’s soul mate!
I've been a regular user of Fructis Hair Food - the banana 'flavour', especially, for 4 years now.
I have naturally curly hair and when transitioning back to natural hair from having my hair chemically straightened, the banana hair food was my number one. Can be used as a co-wash, conditioner, leave-in treatment, and a mask. Very versatile! :)
The texture is nice and thick, so it is great for thick hair. My hair feels SO hydrated both when it's in and once I wash it out.
It smells so yum - the smell lingers in the hair too. And it is available at an affordable price point at most supermarkets (which usually have sales, bringing the price down further.)
Tips: It is a thick formula and can tend to weigh down finer hair. So probably wouldn't be suited to those with finer hair.
The Garnier Hair Foods are basically famous if you follow the Curly Girl Method. They Key is to find the right one for your hair. I love this Banana one! the smell is incredible. I have fine Wavy/ curly hair and this is about right as an intense conditioner for my hair type. I have used as a Mask when my hair is super dehydrated, I've used as a leave in (mixed with water in my hands) and as a usual conditioner. Love it. purchased a second time along with some other 'flavors' of Hair Food. You get SO MUCH product and you can find on special at the supermarket for under $10
Tips: If you find this too heavy for your hair - do not use as a Mask or a Leave in - just use it as a conditioner and ensure you rinse it all out.
