Botanicals Strength Cure shampoo by Loreal.

So this shampoo like the whole set has a distinct smell which they describe as invigorating. For me I think it is the type of scent you either love or hate it smells similar to Karma Sutra purfumed balm/oil. I do not hate the scent but it isnt my type. The shampoo is transparent/clear, colourless and lathers sufficiently. The pump dispenser bottle reminds me of a hand soap or body lotion container. Coconut oil is in this range which truth be told is not ideal to use too much of as on-going use can cause protein buildup, reduced hair elasticity, stiff/crunchy feeling causing breakage as a result. Coriander oil in the range is Anti-bacterial - good for athletes foot itchy scalp, it can help ease pain so you may like to try this as a body wash as it can help with muscle spasms, pain and cramping the scent has both stimulating and calming effects. The back of the bottle says it contains "soya" next to coconut & coriander oil I assume this means soybean oil this is a carrier oil so helps the other oils absorb into the hair and hold moisture. Soybean oil has Vitamin A, ant-oxidants and it is not a greasy feel type oil so that means if you have oily hair soybean oil is ideal. My hair felt clean after use of this but not supersoft so perhaps it did make my hair a bit tougher or stronger like the claim but with only 1 week to trial the range it is really hard to judge weather this really is going to repair the hair. It could help make the roots stronger and provide nutrients and care to the scalp perhaps. Because I prefer other scents for my hair and it is pricey for my budget I am not sure I would re-purchase but you do get 400ml which is plenty. I like how there is no parabens etc but I believe there is some kind of Laurel sulfate in it (a foaming lathering agent/makes the bubbles) which some will not favour as this can take the natural oil/moisture from your hair and is in all mainstream/cheaper shampoos.

Tips: For more information on the additives / about this range check out my strength cure conditioner and strength care potion reviews too. This product expries 12months after opening so be sure not to leave it sitting in your bathroom for too long.

Eco-friendly with more than a hint of nature

The first thing that stood out about this range is the fact that it is eco-friendly, including the recyclable packaging. I have been more conscious of my purchases recently and have been making an effort to reduce how much waste I send to landfill. This made it perfect timing to have a shampoo that sits in my shower in all its eco-friendly glory.

The eco-friendly statement is not only made in the packaging, but is also screamed in the scent. One word; coriander. I find it to be a very powerful scent, and not one that I enjoy having in a beauty product. I noticed that the shampoo contains coconut oil - if it smelt like coconut it would have become a firm favourite.

The shampoo itself is dispensed through a super-handy pump. This sits perfectly in my shower and makes it quick and easy to get the product that I need. It dispenses a small amount at a time, but this is positive as it is probably encouraging me to stop over-using my beauty products. Despite the lack of lather, it still spreads evenly and easily throughout my hair. It rinses out easily and my hair is left feeling clean and fresh. With some shampoos I wash my hair twice, so it is a bonus that it isn't needed with this one. I have only used the shampoo a few times, so I can't comment on it strengthening my hair; however, it definitely hasn't dried it out.

I have shoulder length, damaged and colour-treated hair that is usually washed every second day. I have used salon and supermarket shampoos in the past. Will I repurchase this one? No - purely because of the scent. I will however, be tempted to purchase a different shampoo from the same range. Maybe there is something with a little extra coconut?

Tips: There is also a conditioner and strength potion in this range. I have reviewed these in separate posts.

Surprisingly good

Over the last week I have been trying out newest collection from L'Oreal and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. My first impression was not great, a coriander shampoo did not sound the least bit appealing. I was worried people would sniff my head and ask what I had been doing to myself. However the smell was fine and not overwhelming at all. The packaging is impressive and smart I love having a pump action shampoo. The dark colours are new and different from most shampoo brands and I was also impressed to see that the bottle is recyclable!

The shampoo had a good lather to it and as I said the smell wasn't to overpowering. Easy to wash out. Unfortunately this is where most of my good news ends. Over the week I didn't notice a huge difference in my hair. In fact the days where I left my hair for two days I felt my hair looked a little more greasy than usual and felt slightly itchy.

I will certainly use the product until the end of the bottle but I won't be running out to purchase another bottle in a hurry. In saying that though I would be very interested to see if they bring out similar interesting smells in the future.

Shampoo

The packaging is my favourite of shower products, I especially like the pump on this one - although I feel I need quite a few pumps to get the desired amount. The scent is the same as the range, I was expecting overpowering coriander - but its a nicely spiced refreshing scent.

I think it takes a bit more to get a lather that I like, but that is probably because it is free of some of the things cause that big lather in other shampoos. Maybe I need to change my expectations. As part of the range it's hard to judge the shampoo alone, but I feel like it wasn't as gentle as the other products. My hair felt a bit dried out and squeaky after using it (Again, is that my lather issue?) The conditioner and strength potion helped combat that feeling though, so I think they work well as a team. I'm not sure that I will keep up the shampoo, but the other products I will continue to use mixed in with other products.

Botanical Strength Cure

I love the smell of this hair care range! I also love the pump bottle which makes it easy to use and the bottle allows you to see how much is left. However it seemed to make my hair frizzier and more flyaway than not. I don’t really feel it strengthens my hair at all. But just because of its divine smell I might purchase it on sale in the future.

Tips: Buy on sale at supermarket not when full priced as it’s overpriced for what it delivers.

Not as impressed as I hoped I would be

The packaging is fantastic. As I was only expecting the shampoo I was suprised to see the conditioner and hair serum also. I was really impressed with the bottles which makes the product look more expensive and not just like your standard shampoo you get from supermarkets.

Shampoo review: The shampoo has a nice lather to it and I enjoyed the smell. It was nice and fresh!

Conditioner review: Left my hair feeling nice and light. I liked the smell. was a nice creamy texture that was easy to apply.

Serum review: Not too heavy, didnt leave my hair feeling oily, although I did feel like i had to wash my hair the next day. I liked the fact the bottle came with a dropper as it was quite a watery serum

My hair is damaged and is fragile from hair dye. I am sorry to say I did not see any changes to the strength of my hair. Again, the product smells nice and it gave a good clean, but didnt do what it said it would....

Tips: Perhaps if I could have trialed the product for longer I may have noticed a difference?
