Overpriced Primer

It is nice. this primer has a nice texture, smells pleasant, goes on nicely and does a nice job as a primer. However, for $65 I want more than "Nice". i dont really notice any "Glow" but this primer works well in that the rest of my makeup stays on and looks great for a lot longer than if I didnt use it.

Only worked with some foundations

I recieved a sample in the BRBB, I'm not gonna lie I was pretty excited, it just looks so sleek in its little silver tube. When I first tried the product I really like the texture, quite a thin lotion, and the way it feels when applied to skin which is quite a smooth silicone feel, the smell is also pleasent and not to strong. I definitely notice that my foundation/bbs go on smoother, use less product and most, but not all, lasted the entire day. Over all I definitely like this but I'm not sure I could justify the price for the effect.

On the Fence

I received a good sized sample in the March Beauty Box, and I have to say it wasn't a product I would have bought for myself. I see the words Glow Enhancing and I think J Lo, and how I have such dull, lack-luster skin, so I was hyped to try this out for myself and was even prepared to spend the hefty price tag if I fell in love with it.

So bare faced I sit and apply after my moisturiser (on several occasions), I see a shimmery effect, subtle but there. I like it it looks healthy and natural. The white liquid/cream smooths on, nicely and doesn't crumble off or make my skin itch (only one primer has done this but I still think it needs mentioning), and It isn't greasy or beady feeling. It only has a very light floral scent.

So after wearing this under my make up (8 applications over two weeks, and still heaps of product left in the petite silver tube) I find my makeup settles into my lines on my face, and the glow seems to be only visible if you are wearing a BB cream or sheer coverage not mid to full.

I found that my skin didn't react badly to using this, i.e breakout but then again I didn't see anything beneficial in using it either. My make up didn't last any longer or look any different to applying it directly onto my skin, if anything I found my makeup creasing more around my mouth and eyes.

I would apply it after foundation to see more glow if I knew it wouldn't rub my foundation off. I like how lightweight it is as well but I don't see me buying it in the future.

Received it in the beauty box

This primer is known to make your skin glow but personally I found that it made my skin look oily which I don't like the look of. My skin felt really oily and so I didn't quite like it. The package itself is nice

Sheseidon't know

Received this as a deluxe sample of the March Beauty Box and was super excited to try it.

The Sheseido packaging is quite lovely simple and elegant with a soft metallic silver sheen on the tube.

The texture of the primer is soft and light although it does feel greasy when you apply it. I am prone to oily skin so the greasy feel was off putting.

Make up applies great with no problems with evenness and seems to cover the pores a lot better. It does leave you with quite a dewy look so using a powder to set was a must for me. The dewy look is part of the glow and does look lovely but makes me nervous for later in the day when the oiliness tends to come out. Dewy is good, shiny not so much.

The 10ml sample lasted about a month of not everyday use. A little covered a lot, easy to apply.

Tips: If you can get hold of a sample its worth trying before you spend the money I'm sure it would work better on other skin types

Shiseido

I got this in my BRBB. it was a pleasant surprise because Shiseido is high end brand. So having this was a 1 up. I don't reach for this often and the name glow enhancing for me translates to shiney. This is a cute silver tube giving it an exclusively high end look and feel. The texture of the product is sticky and creamy. With a yellow tinge for colour but smooths out to be clear and translucent. It does spread on my skin easily. You only need a small amount to cover your face it's blend able. It does keep my foundation sitting on nicely but I feel it conflicts with the look I'm after since my foundations are a matte finish. This is not really appropriate for that type of finish. I thought to use it for a night look when going out. I found though it gives a flashback when taking pictures when looking in the mirror I was satisfied with the look but when having worn this out at night and havung photos it gives flashback and I look shiney. I hate that look..... therefore probably not suitable for night wear or when taking photos with a flash. This is the reason why I don't reach for it often. I don't think I would buy this though as being an high end product it comes with the price tag. If it didn't give me the flashback I most probably would consider purchasing.... For that one con I'm certain I won't be buying it.

Shiseido Glow/ Sheen

I received a 10ml sample sized tube of this primer in the last BR Beauty Box, of which I got about 8 applications out of. This is the first and only product I've tried from Shiseido, knowing nothing about the brand.

The packaging of this product is quite enticing, the shiney silver tube with it's black cap makes it look like a high-end quality kind of product, and I guess it's supposed to be product given the lofty price tag.

The consistency is that of a lotion, it applies very smoothly creating a very light layer on the skin surace and delivers a noticeable dewy glow. It has a soft soapy scent to it and also smells almost very faintly of suncreen, I find it reasonably pleasant.

The surface of my skin looks smoother after applying this primer, and it somewhat assists in the smoothness of foundation application and provides a luminous dewy finish. However as the day wears on, and in a stuffy environment the luminous glow may become a sweaty looking sheen, so it pays to carry with you a powder for touch-ups.

If it's a dewy glow you're ater and you don't mind having to touch-up with a bit of powder during the day (or fork out $65 for primer) then this might the primer for you. If you prefer a matte finish then you're probably not going to like it at all.

Glow no!

So I'm new to the primer game, and I'm still in search of one that does what it says. When we got a sample of this in the BRBB I was excited - but it quickly diminished.

The tube, gorgeous and silver with a black lid. The product, to me, is a very, very baby pink and its quite pretty really. I applied it to my face, but I didn't feel it sinking in, it just sat on top making the Texans look at me like I was their next place to put their oil well. I ended up putting a setting powder down before I did my foundation - although I really like doing this method now so I'm glad that I did it!

I didn't really notice it giving me any glow, but then when people say their foundation makes them 'glow' all I see is shiny and oily. I personally hate looking oily, sorry, "glowing", but others like it so more power to them.

I'll use up the rest of the sample (eventually...), but I don't think I would purchase a full sized sample of this. It's a really nice product, but probably suited to people with dry skin, or people who like to 'glow'. :-)

Middle of the road, at best.

I have always had an appreciation (but not necessarily the budget) for Shiseido as a brand and when the Beauty Review March Beauty Box contained a deluxe sample of this primer I was stoked. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed.

The primer, dual named Glow Enhancing Primer/ Base Eclat Intensif comes in a gorgeous little silver tube with a black cap. Like all Shiseido Products it's quite elegant and simple in its packaging.

The primer itself is a white cream with a vaguely pearlescent glow in the right light. It is odourless and the colour disappears on the skin.

I applied this under my makeup every day for about 6 weeks and was expecting it to make a difference to the way my skin appeared. It simply doesn't. It offers up a dewy look on first application but for me that seemed to be about all it did. Once my makeup was on I could do one side of my face with and one without and see absolutely no difference. Again, in the right light, you can notice a faint sheen before your makeup goes on, but that's about it.

I have a similar product from another brand that is far superior to this primer and a lot cheaper. I have heard other girls rave about this and kind of wish I'd given my sample to one of them rather than battling on because it doesn't seem as if it was the right one for me personally. At $65 there is no way I'd buy it again.

The pluses? It feels nice, didn't break out my skin, did help my foundation go on more evenly - and it was free.

Koni my regular 'glow' primer might be more what you are looking for? Hard to get in NZ unfortunately but I love it: Victoria's Secret Fresh Face Brightening Gel Cream. Not a 'primer' per se but def peps up my skin

Darn it! I was really looking forward to the "glow". Great review Trudi, I always like to know the colour of a primer and if that colour is still visible once blended - very helpful!

So-so Glow

I love Shiseido products and was excited to receive this Glow Enhancing Primer in the Beauty Review March Beauty Box. Also I’m not one for using primer usually so I was very curious to find out how much difference it would make to my make up.

The product comes in a cute silver tube with a black cap. It is very classy looking in tune with Shiseido’s usual sophisticated branding. It is a white cream, and is soft and simple to use and apply. I didn’t notice any scent.

The product describes itself as an oil-free primer that enhances skin's clarity, for a brilliant quality that adds a natural, vibrant glow to the finish of various foundations all day long. It is non greasy and does absorb into the skin quite easily. I find it leaves a light coating that helps my foundation glide on smoothly and evenly, but I don’t notice a glow that lasts all day unfortunately.

It is a nice product and somewhat helpful in improving my foundation, but for $65 I could never justify purchasing it myself. I would be happy to discuss it with my friends, but I’d be reluctant to actually recommend they buy it, as the outlay is big for anyone who only finds it ‘nice’ like I did.

Tips: For dedicated primer connoisseurs, it might be good to look out for this product on a good special buy in order to try it without the big cost.
