Absolute shine

They're not kidding when they say "let yourself shine". I bought Peach Goddess (a pink shift rose gold) and King Tut (golden bronze) from the Jeffree Star Cosmetics website for approximately $35 at the time of the exchange rate. It was relatively quick delivery and they arrived securely packaged.

The barbie doll pink compact is huge (but smaller than the Marc Jacobs Instamarc compacts) holding 15 grams of product which is double the size of a standard highlighter. Personally, highlighters don’t need to be this big especially if they’re pigmented.

The compact has a good quality mirror where I can see my entire face so I find that it’s perfect for travel despite being quite weighted and big. When comparing the 2 compacts I find that King Tut is difficult to open; it’s more rigid whereas Peach Goddess almost pops open. The King Tut pan is also not centred (i.e. the star point is not pointing at the mirror) whereas Peach Goddess is in perfect alignment.

The product has a buttery smooth consistency with very fine shimmers. I was worried it would look glittery but under the light both shades give a very strong sheen almost shiny (and unfortunately almost greasy for oily skinned beauties).

I really wanted to love these highlighters but unfortunately they’re not my favourite. When using a light hand, Peach Goddess is a buildable highlighter that is not overly pigmented. I can see a lovely pink shift on my cheekbones but over the next few hours the pigment is gone and I’m left with a sheen which by the end of the day it just looks like too much shine.

King Tut is beautifully pigmented and you can easily look like the gold lady on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. If not blended properly it can emphasise the texture of your skin but also look quite stark under lights. I find this performs better than Peach Goddess but it’s still quite shiny on my skin by the end of the day.

I think these would be fantastic for a night out where you want that shiny wet look but I won’t be repurchasing anymore from that range. I prefer a highlighter that stays in place and gives me a glow as opposed to shine.

Tips: I use a fan brush to distribute what eventually will look like shine over the top of another highlight that I know will stay in place.

GLOWY

I am a die hard Jeffree Star Makeup fan. It was really hard to put that aside to give this highlighters an honest review and not just say 'They are amazing because they are Jeffree Star Cosmetics'. Infact there is a couple of things I don't love about this product.

First thing that I'm not a huge fan about is the size. Huge! Whooping 15g of product. And unless you bathe in highlight everyday, it's totally unnecessary to have this much product in one pan! I know I'll never get through mine in the time it expires.

Inconsistent! OK so between the 2 shades I have they are inconsistent. I have 'King Tut' a bronzey glow, subtle and easily blended and 'Mint condition' Green and we'll down right hard to blend! I don't know of its because it's green that the product formula is different? But I find when it's on the skin it's really hard to blend out onto the cheek bone, where as King Tut is a beautiful Glowy shade easy to apply and easy to blend.

Now Mint condition is still blinding but really really really obvious on the skin. No matter where you blink it, it stands out like no bodies business. I love a good glow bit I feel with this shade on people from out of space can see me!

I haven't tried any other shades but mint condition hasn't ruined it for me yet! I think I need to try another 'coloured' one and another more 'normal' shade and compare the consistency again.

I really love my King Tut shade, a go to highlight for me and easily worn with an every day makeup look too.

Lovely highlighter

I love these highlighters! Get such good pay off with the products. The pan size is also really good. With how fast I go through it, I think the price is good.

Tips: Try layering over a liquid highlighter for extra glow.

Skinfrost

This is the best highlighter I have ever used. It is so pigmented and shimmery. The compact is gigantic. It's creamy, it's buttery. Just wish there was more highlight in the compact because you will hit pan after 2 weeks if you use it the way you're supposed to. Ice cold makes me feel so bomb

Loooooove this!

I purchased 2 skin frosts during a half price sale recently and got Princess cut (white-pink) and Siberian gold (gold).

I ordered off the JS website and delivery took about 3 weeks (shipping was delayed due to huge amounts of stock being sold!). They came packaged in a box, each compact in a smaller box wrapped in bubble wrap and tissue paper. Very well wrapped to ensure there were no breakages.

Once you open it up you soon realize the compact is enormous with a big mirror on the other side. I initially swatched the products with my finger and they honestly weren't as buttery as I would have expected but had such intense pigment and glow.

When using them with a tapered brush I found that once dipping into the product, it looks like you don't have much on the brush but once you put it on your cheeks you soon learn that this is maybe for the best, as you certainly don't need much!

They're buildable and can be used as an eyeshadow too. I found that they lasted well all day.

Not sure how to feele

I have one Skin Frost in the shade Princess Cut, and I have heard that it's the most problematic shade which I can definitely understand.

I swatched it when I first got it (with a clean finger) and a few minutes later it had developed a pretty intense hard layer in the spot I swatched it. I then tried to swatch that spot again and I got almost no pigment. I heard that you had to scrape the top layer off to get pigment, so I did that in the spot I originally swatched and it seemed to help, although I am weary of using it now because I don't want to ruin it. Again, I have heard that this shade is the worst for developing hard pan, but it has made me reluctant to purchase any more shades in case they do the same thing. It's a shame because I love the colour of Princess Cut, and the pan size is amazing!

If you're thinking about trying a skin frost, I have heard that the original colours (ice cold, peach goddess etc) do work much better than the new colours.

I like this product

This highlighter is very extreme, I have the shade ice cold and it works very well with pale skin tones but it is very blinding. I like a more subtle highlight and I can makes this work if I take a very light hand when applying. this is a very pigmented highlighter and I think it would be awesome if you are into that very blinding glow and even if you are not you can still make it work with less product. This shade is perfect for fair skin tones.

Tips: for a less intense highlight use a light amount of product on a fan brush and apply to your cheekbones. For a more blinding highlight use a crease brush and apply to your cheekbones, or even spray fix plus onto the crease brush for even more extreme highlighting

Over Hyped

I have the skin frost in the shade Summer Snowcone, surely I can't be the only one that thinks it's terrible? I try my best but can't seem to get any pigment out of it, I tried wetting my Morphe M501 brush with my Gerard Cosmetics setting spray and I get the teeniest bit of pigment out of it, someone suggested scraping a couple of layer off the top which I tried doing on some of it and it didnt even help all that much, plus i don't think it's fair to have to scrape some layers of a highlighter off to have to get some pigment out of it. I think it's a BEAUTIFUL shade and i would love to wear it but just can't seem to make it work for me.

YAAASSSS QUEEN

I love these highlighters! I have the Skin Frost Pro Palette and all 6 shades are so pigmented. Ice Cold is my favourite because it's so blinding.

I use a Wet n Wild fan brush to apply it and it looks like I haven't used the highlighters at all when I've gotten a lot of use out of each one. It stays on for so long!

Tips: Layer it on top of a liquid highlighter for more shine.

platinum ice palete

I would highly recommend ice cold as it glides on beautiful , But the formula is hit and miss between shades as like the manny mua uranus collab was very crumbly and did not sit well on the skin
