Felt like a glittery child

I found this product to leave me with a very sparkly appearance meaning I looked like a child who had found the glitter had attacked me. The lipgloss like brush made it hard to evenly apply.

Tips: Dab it onto the tips of your fingers before applying to your face.

Strange texture, great illumination.

I brought this for around my eye area and cheekbones, I would've preferred a shimmer dust or more or a mousse?

I found the lip gloss- like applicator meant I had to spend extra time blending.

I would try another alternative before buying again but the colour really worked for making my eyes POP.

Tips: apply around your eyes// dotted along cheek bones for a ethereal// glowy look ♥

Designer Brands Hi-Lights Illuminator

I received this as a free gift from when I used to purchase Designer Brands products due to having no money. I have found that i absolutely hate the applicator due to it having a lip gloss wand which I find is very unhygienic. I found that this illuminator didn't work for me underneath foundation as I had awful flashback. I found that this was good for a very healthy, radiant glow on top of my foundation. I have found however that this product is easy to apply as I dab some product onto the tips of my fingers and apply to my cheekbones that way and it also blends easily. I wouldn't repurchase due to preferring to use a highlighting powder but think this is an excellent starting product for beginners and is even good for someone on a budget.

Average

This was the first liquidy highlighter I've tried and I wasn't super impressed I only tried it over foundation on my cheek bones and the finish was ok but powder highlighters give the same or maybe even a better finish and they are easier to apply I found this quite annoying to apply the applicator is a strange choice and I had to work really fast to blend it out so it didn't dry out.

I feel like the amount of product is good and would last a long time as a little amount goes a long way and it is super cheap at $10 from postie plus Although I wouldn't repurchase I like my powders more.

Tips: I put a little on my fingers and then blended it onto my cheekbones I found if I dabbed it straight onto my face it was patchy

Designer Brands Highlighter

I liked how this product was able to provide my face with a healthy looking natural glow. It was the perfect amount of shimmer without being over dramatic and there were no chunky glitters in sight. The packaging is great for traveling due to its small compact size.

Tips: Cheaper version of benefits hi-beam.

So afforable!

I was obsessing over highlighters for a while and wanted to try every single one I could find!

I came across this and thought I'd give it a nudge since it was ridiculously cheap.

When I use it on top of my foundation, I don't like the effect. It looks cakey and like I got in to my nieces dress-up make up collection and poured glittery stripes on my face.

However, under my foundation, on the high points of my face and Cupids bow - AMAZING! It gives me that subtle sheen that makes me look glowy and it's not uber pigmented so the pink in it doesn't come through.

The texture and consistency is a little on the thin side but a little goes a long, long way.

Illuminator DB

This is not a bad product I compared with another brand liquid one and the DB had a more high lighting look than the other brand it has a nice soft applicator like a lip gloss and can really add shimmer and glow to your cheeks its affordable but perhaps a bigger container? it looks like a lip gloss the additives in this formulation are good for the skin so that is what I like about it and the look is really pretty and you only need to use sparingly if you want a subtle look. I think this is a popular product which gives good results and the sparkle is not all chunky glitter like with some other cheap options.

DB Hi-Lights

This Illuminator comes in a handy little lip-gloss like tube, the applicator on top is also very similar to that of a lip gloss wand.

I quite liked the packaging it was a nice compact size to throw in your handbag or makeup bag. I have been experimenting with a few different types of illuminators and wanted to add this on to my list and at such a great price I thought it was worth a try.

I went about my usual morning makeup routine (moisturiser/prime/mineral foundation) then a wee bit of contouring only slightly as I’m very fair and wanted to the put the highlighter just above the contouring on my cheekbones down the ridge of my nose and my cupids bow.

It had a thinner consistency than I expected but not so thin that it would be hard to work with. It was a really lovely light pinkie based colour when swatched on my hand I was a little worried that it was going to be too pink and almost glittery for my face. I applied a swipe to each of my cheek bones , my nose and the cupids bow. This was a mistake and I shouldn’t have got carried away with myself and just worked on one area at a time it was too hard to blend and ended up looking a bit like I might have been on my way to a disco !.

However applying this one piece at a time with one swipe and then some quick blending (I did use my fingers for this I couldn’t find a brush that did this as well) I had managed to blend this in without a tide mark.

This is one of those products that you don’t want to use a heavy hand with a light touch is all that’s needed otherwise it does look a bit overdone and glittery/shiny but with just a little product it did give me a really nice healthy glow with a hint of pink which I always favour for my cooler skin tone.

It lasted pretty well throughout my workday I think you would probably need to touch this up if you were heading out but for my work day was perfect.

I would buy this again and I think it’s a lower end dupe for the Benefit High Beam (high beam is definitely less of the glittery) but overall really not a bad product for the price

Tips: This definitely requires application with a light touch

If only the formula was improved

So, being that I work with drugstore cosmetics and considering I am addicted when it comes to highlighters and illumators, when this product hit our shelves I was eager to give it ago. What drew me to the product was of course colour; imediately I thought of Benefits High Beam when I saw it and when the product is on the skin is gives a very similar colour effect. The only problem that I've found with the product is that if you apply even just a little bit too much, then it can go chunky and very visible as to where you've applied it. Even applying in before foundation. So with a little trial and error, I've found that if I only apply a very small amount on top of my foundation and use a damn sponge to blend it in, I can get away with it blending seamlessly, just can't be too heavy handed. However, for the price. It is a liquid highlighter worth giving a go

Tips: Apply before powder, and after foundation. Or before foundation, depending on the level of intensity that you want. And blend with a damn sponge. Also, don't use too much!! A couple of spots on the tops of the cheeks, blended in is plenty

I Really Like This

I bought both shades of this for around $9 and honestly I really like them. I rarely use the more bronzey shade due to being very pale, but the white one I use very often. I thought it might be a dupe for Benefit's High Beam and in colour it IS very similar. I actually like the packaging and I use the little applicator inside (similar to a typical lipgloss applicator) to dot this on my cheeks then I either blend it in with my ELF Small Stippling brush or a beauty sponge. If you don't work fast it can leave you with dots of concentrated highlight where you dotted it, so I like to do one cheek at a time. It can look a little bit chunky if you don't blend it well and the sheen is more of a subtle highlight than I typically like, but if you can get it right it looks very pretty on fair skin. Definitely avoid applying too much and if you're going to use it on different areas of the face, make sure to do so one section at a time. The lasting power is good for the price and would last a typical work/school day. I think it's worth the price for sure and considering how hard liquid highlighters are to find at the drugstore, this is a bit of a gem.

Tips: Work in sections, apply then blend straight away, otherwise you can end up with noticeable lines/dots on your face.
