Powder City

This product was so much harder to work with than what I was expecting. After seeing the ABH palette I thought this would be a cheaper alternative, but instead I never reach for it. You only need the smallest amount of any of the contour shades, or it seems to come across so muddy and is really hard to blend away. The only positive is the highlighter and the 'banana powder' which I still use.

Tips: Use the lightest hand possible when applying any of the contour shades. The 'banana' powder is great for under eye setting and the highlight shade is a very nice subtle highlight that I would use on the cheekbone and under the brow bone.

Over-rated!

I've been looking for this infamous palette for so long, until one day I found it (the last one as well) in my local farmers. As soon as I paid I went straight home to play around with it, following all the directions on the back of the palette I came out very disappointed. The colours were a bit too dark for my skin tone - im very pale, but were also very chalky and very VERY hard to blend! I definetely would not recommend this palette if your looking for an effortless and well made contour palette, as it made my skin very muddy-looking. I can see how it would be good for beginners who are starting out with contouring as it is very affordable at $21.50 per palette.

Tips: If wanting to make it easier to blend, i recommend using high quality brushes.

Couldn't make this work for me

I was very kindly gifted this product from a lovely beauty review member. I was over the moon as I'd been so wanting to try it but my local Farmers never had it in stock. It was something I definitely would have bought for myself if I had ever seen it in store but it was so nice to have it arrive in my letterbox!

This is packaged pretty simply but if you have any other Australis products then it kind of matches. It is a very secure case that won't randomly open up and get product everywhere. There isn't a mirror or any accessories included with this but it does have a simple to follow instruction sticker on the back. If you've ever watched youtube makeup videos, you'd probably be quite familiar with how to apply contour and highlight anyway but it is nice to have that reference on the back.

There are six pans in this. I'm not sure of the size as it doesn't say on the package and the box is long gone. They are bigger than eyeshadows, but not as big as full size blush pans. Maybe more like travel size blush pans? Anyway on the top row is 3 highlight shades. There is a peach, yellow and a shimmery peach. The bottom row has 3 contours/bronzers, to me there is one cool tone, one warm tone and one more neutral tone. These powders are all very pigmented, especially the dark shades. They are also quite powdery though. I find they give you beautiful hand swatches but blending them out on your face can be a little tricky, because they are so pigmented and then they can go a bit patchy and almost blend away to nothing after that. The peach highlighter shades are ok, but I find the yellow to be quite chalky.

Whenever I used this, I never ended up liking my makeup. I just found the contour to be too pigmented to be easy to work with and to just make it look natural on my face. I also found the highlights too drying for my dry skin so they ended up sitting funny on my skin and looking cakey under my eyes.

I loved being able to try this out and it is an affordable option if you want to get into contouring. For me it didn't work but I know other people love it, so for around $20 it might be worth giving it a go. I plan to pass this on and I hope they can give this some love that I could not.

Tips: go really light handed to start with, you really don't want big stripes up the sides of your face!

Wasnt amazed....

I got this kit about a month ago as i saw a few makeup artist on inst raving about it.... im not a fan to be honest. I like the highlighter powder but not a fan on the dark powders. I find the colours very dark and even using a light dusting of it on your brush it almost looks dirty and are hard to blend. Would not reccommend this palette for someone with fair skin. Would work for a darker skin tone.

Hate it!

I really don't like giving products such bad reviews but I actually despise this product. It is so chunky and chalky and powdery and the contour shades are too muddy for my nc25 skin tone. I wish I hadn't wasted my money. This product is just sitting in my drawer not living it's life.

I did try hard to get it to work but it just wasn't happening. The only thing worth using is the highlighter.

The hype fail is real

After all the hype about contour kits I knew I had to have one, and this was the only one I could get with my budget, plus as I hadn't used one before I was a bit unsure if I actually wanted one, but blind need took over and I purchased for $18.

Upon arrival I was disappointed - It was so small! It seemed so big in pictures. I swatched every color on my arm and I was less than impressed there too. The highlighters were average, and the browns were so muddy and looked awful. Who contours with shades that dark!?

The formula is quite chalky, and I don't really like chalk full stop so this is a real big miss for me. Bravely and a little scared I ventured on and dipped the brush into the powder. I saw from my swatches that it was awfully pigmented, so I tread very lightly and dipped the brush lightly. It went onto my face and I sat mortified as I tried hard to blend it out. It didn't want to budge.

I've learnt to use even less than I did before, but I still can't blend it or make it look nice, so for me it was a fat waste of money. I wouldn't buy anything of this sort again, as this one has just put me right off contour anything.

Is it possible to be over pigmented?!

Firstly I really like the packaging for this palette, and I held high hopes for it as a dupe for my beloved ABH contour palette, but sadly I didn't find it held up to the hype. I found it over pigmented and even a tiny bit made me look like I had been rolling in mud. The darker shades on me ran very warm so none of them worked as a good contour. The yellow shade i noticed was really chalky and went on very patchy. The only shade out of all 6 that I liked was the highlight shade, as this palette packs a whole heap of pigment this did work in favor for the highlighter. Overall this is really something I will not be re purchasing.
