Good product

I picked this up at a makeup sale for $12 - I read a few online reviews first that suggested the colourings didn’t quite match the normal ColorStay Range, so I went for a lighter one (I usually use 200 Nude, but chose this product in 150 Buff). The colour is almost identical to my usual product, so I’m pleased I chose a lighter shade.

I didn’t expect the lighter weight of this foundation compared to my regular ColorStay product - it’s almost mousse-like, very lightweight feel to it - totally unlike the ColorStay foundation I usually use, which is runnier. It goes on smoothly, evenly and gives a reasonable coverage (I prefer a full coverage, which is the main reason I gave this product a go).

It wore reasonably well, however I wouldn’t say as well as my usual foundation. I didn’t think it gave a full coverage, but I didn’t want to lay it on too thick, not knowing how my oily skin would react to it. It did nothing for oil control of my skin, and for me, is probably better suited when I don’t need to wear foundation all day long).

I do like the convenience of the tube packaging, smaller and lighter weight than the bottle, so will probably keep one of these in my makeup bag for trips away / touch ups. If I was on a tighter budget, it would definitely be my go to everyday use foundation.

Puts the stay in ColourStay

ColourStay liquid foundation for oily/combo skin is my holy grail so I was keen to try this ColourStay. The texture is more moussey, similar to the old "Whipped" version that came in a screwtop jar. Being a moussey texture it is easier to apply with a brush, a sponge is harder to blend but if you are like me and prefer a sponge I would spread the foundation over the face and then quickly dab and blend out. The sponge gives a more medium to full coverage, and trying to evenly build the coverage with this texture was a bit challenging.

I find the finish looks quite heavy but doesn't feel too heavy and didn't cake up much. While I didn't wear it 24 hours, it lasted well when wearing it even after 12 hours. I had oils come through (which always happens) but not too badly , and the foundation didn't break up. It definitely lasted well and stayed quite matte. It performed well with no primer, but I'd be careful on that which primer you use as a tacky one would make blending even harder. It is a matte finish but didn't exacerbate any of my dry patches.

I like the squeeze bottle as it makes it easier to control the amount of product you get out. Buff 150 was a great match, it's nice that they have light enough foundations for my winter shade as foundations don't always and there's even lighter available.

Tips: Dries down quickly so spread quickly and blend fast. Brush will give more coverage and more bendable than a sponge.

Revlon Colour Stay Foundation Review

This Revlon full cover foundation packaging is not in a glass bottle like other foundations this means light weight travel. The foundation feels very creamy and as others have said sort of like a mousse foundation but not quite the same its a thick texture feels silky to apply and touch. It is often in primers too. This product has good coverage and seems to have a built in primer. I wore for about 8 hours & the foundation still looked good the next morning. I feel this foundation is a time and money saver for the following reasons: The fuller coverage means you can skip out on the consealer, colour correcting cream and or use less of your other products, the product improved the look of dark circles so you may use this product as a consealer too. The fuller coverage foundation could replace lighter coverage foundations too because you could combine a moisturizer with it - perhaps with a spf - for day use or a more sheer foundation / tinted moisturizer a little goes a fair way with this foundation saving buying other products, the matte finish of this foundation means you may not need to use a powder over the top. I got shade nude which was a little dark for me but I made it work by combining it with a lighter foundation and using it alone as a cream contour both alone and mixed with my other brand of foundation the results were pleasing. It was nice not having to really layer up and use lots of my regular foundation that has less coverage in order to mask and blur my imperfections. My sister had actually flogged my favourite full coverage foundation and it is not easy to get as they do not make it anymore I am pleased to say this Revlon one can now take its place I do recommend it if you can get your shade. On textured skin it looks fairly decent without primer although I suggest to moisturize skin before application as dimethicone (- just like in hair conditioners) can lock moisture in but it does not really provide any and with long term use this possibly may dry and plug up skin so ensure you remove it correctly and still hydrate your skin. The viscosity of this product is thick but spreads and blends fairly well too. The coverage is there but as I blended a little I did still see some of my acne coming through however it certainly did cover a heck of a lot better than other foundations One thing I will mention is this product does not smell pleasant but it is not a very strong smell. I would re buy this even though it is a bit dark for me because I can make it work.

To stay or not to stay?

To be honest I prefer my go to colorstay combination, I thought the new full coverage matte colorstay would be better as I love matte foundation, but it isn't it's a little chalky and seems to fade off as the day wears on. Don't get me wrong though it's still a very natural long wearing foundation but just not as good as it's counterpart. Also it goes a strange chalky shade if it's not applied correctly with moisturiser and primer

Tips: Definitely use a primer with this to help it last

It’s good depending on what you’re going for

So firstly it’s not the most coverage type of foundation you will get. But if you want a good coverage and a natural type look then this baby is for you. I wouldn’t recommend matte on aging skin so much so I wouldn’t personally use it now as I’ve always found they sink into your lines more so! But defiantly each to there own on that point. Goes on nicely but apply it with a brush or beauty blender for best results.

Revlon full cover

I went out and purchased this foundation as i was in desperately needing a new foundation as i was starting work the next day. The bottle is super cute and easy to squeeze out . How ever when i was needing my shade they never had it . So they had a special buy 2 for $60 i got a lighter shade and the darker one up from the colour i used . This was fine i managed to match myself with mixing the two shades . It is very easy to put on but its so creamy that if you wipe it with a beauty blender rather then dab it literally wipes straight off your face. The coverage is great but really really heavy. I now only use this if i really have to .

Full Cover with a Feather Touch

Revlon's Colorstay Full Cover foundation promises, "up to 24hr wear, no caking or fading, lightweight and seamless blending," and essentially it delivers. I love the airy, smooth texture of the product. It reminds me of mousse foundations, but with more power in the coverage department.

A little from the 'paint tube' style packaging goes a long way and I can't see the 30ml running out in a hurry. It looks small compared to the usual bottle but that must be an illusion!

I applied the foundation with my fingers and it did take some coaxing to blend it seamlessly. Use an applicator- with fingers it seemed to settle immediately into any pores and lines and have to be encouraged out. Once it was smooth though, it was set for the day and didn't gravitate back to those unwanted places! The finish is matte, without being 2D flat. The coverage is satisfactory for run of the mill blemishes/ pigmentation, but if you have more to cover then I would strongly recommend trying before you buy.

I used the Revlon website to select my shade (150 Buff) and I was amazed to see that it matched perfectly. I'm impressed and I think the $38 price point is fair.

Tips: Experiment with different applicators for the best result. I used fingers and wonder if a beauty blender or brush would have improved the application.

Pleasantly Surprised

I really did enjoy wearing this foundation. It was lightweight yet gave a pretty good coverage. I was apprehensive re the matte finish being older but it wasn't an issue. The longevity of the foundation was really good. I normally check my makeup midday and with this one there was no need to touch up. Similarly at the end of the day it still looked really newly applied so the claims around this were true. I really liked the fact it didn't look like a full cover foundation in that it was light and blended in really well. The only negative I have is that there is no SPF. This is a must for me as I like the added protection. The tube/packaging had both positive and negative aspects for me. On the plus side it was super easy to pop in my handbag and I found it easy to dispense the product from it. On the negative side the tube does appear small so I'm unsure how long it will last. These were relatively minor issues and overall I loved this foundation and would use it again.

Matte made in heaven

I am SO impressed with this foundation. I am not normally a Revlon fan but this product is A gem. This stuff does what it says, I’m an oily mess about 3 hours into my day usually, and setting powder is my saviour but In the interest of fairness I went without for this trial. I got home after an 8 hour day and I was only slightly dewy on my forehead. Everything else had stayed put and still matte. I thought this must have been a fluke but no, each day I have worn since has proved the same result! The formula itself is smooth and nice to the touch, and relatively thick consistency. It sits nicely on the face, no splitting... and it doesn’t take a tonne to do your whole face. As far as coverage goes it is more med-full coverage than the advertised full, and doesn’t look cakey after application or with extended wear. I did not need a primer for this foundation, and things like blush and highlight went nicely on top. The colours are true to name “ I went with nude” and don’t oxidise. The formula doesn’t have an overly present smell and the packaging is sturdy and no frills. My only gripe with this product is the small amount of product for the price, if you were to build this up for fuller coverage one tube would not last very long. I don’t know who would want to wear foundation for 24 hrs straight but I believe it when they say it’ll stay on that long, it definitely takes some extra effort to remove at the end of the day. Overall a great product that I would happily repeat purchase.

Tips: I used a brush to apply rather than a beauty blender as the product is quite thick and I found it easier to distribute with a brush.
