Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain Review

Like the title says, this is quickly becoming my favourite lip product. I have quite dry lips so lipstick doesn't always mesh well with my mouth, even with primer, but this product is great! It's not too sticky or super glossy like a lipgloss so my hair doesn't get stuck to it, and it has the pigmentation of a lipstick. I have the colour "Parisian Passion" which is a wine/berry colour. The staining effect doesn't last all day like the Lime Crime Velvetines but it still gives you a nice tint of colour after a couple of hours and no reapplication. Can't wait to try the other colours so I can have beautiful, moisturised lips in all the shades!

Another cheeky purchase from the bucket sale when it came to town. I love a lot of Revlon products so couldn't resist adding this to my purchases. Also whenever something says stain I am totally keen! I am a wee bit lazy when it comes to applying lip colors so something like a stain is perfect to not have to apply multiple times a day. I picked this up in the shade 001 India Intrigue which is a darker pink shade.

The packaging for this is a bit strange. It is in a rectangular tube. It feels so strange to hold in your hand with the sharp corners, however I guess they are just trying to do something different from your usual round tube. The colour of the shade is on the outside of the bottom of the tube which I like to be be able to see when it is in the middle of your collection. The applicator is a really wide doe foot with a pointed end which is really nice to be able to get a precise line at the top of your lips. The applicator also holds heaps of product so you aren't constantly dipping back into the product to get more out.

This feels kind of strange when you first get it on your lips. Kind of slippy and almost siliconey. But it packs a punch with the colour being fully opaque on the first swipe. It does leave quite a glossy finish on the first swipe, then it seems to lose that as you are wearing it (which I like). This does have some lasting power, I do find though as you lose it in patches (eg the middle goes after eating) you end up with an outer edge that is a bit glossy and a inner lip with just a touch of stain. Just means that if I don't have a mirror I just blot away the rest of the shiny part so that it doesn't look ridiculous.

This isn't as stain-y as I wanted it to be but it is still a lovely lip product.

I think it was at the end of last year when I first saw this product around, and once again it was thanks to BR. Ever since then, I had been thinking about this product. I have to admit, it wasn’t at the top of my wish list, but I knew I wanted it sooner or later.

So when I did finally think about buying them, I splurged and didn’t just buy one, but brought 3. I know, I don’t know why I buy three instead of just trying one and going from there but ah well, the impulsive side of me (and my addiction to online shopping) gets the better of me.

The colours I brought are LA splash, which is a beautiful soft pink, and a great subtle colour for my lips. The second colour I brought was India intrigue which is a deeper pink, and the last lip colour is a dark, purple toned stain. So I thought I got a great range of colours.

The packaging is a bit different than what I’m used to with lip products, and that's mainly because it’s a rectangle shape, meaning it has sharp edges versus the smooth cylinder shape most lip product have. However, I don’t find this shape awkward at all, which was another surprise, and I find the product really easy to apply with precision because of the doe foot applicator.

What I wasn’t expected, was the pigmentation in these products. I am a scaredy cat when it comes to lip colour, and the last two colours are opaque, which is great, and will definitely get me outside my comfort zone, where is LA splash has become my go to for a natural every day look.

The reason I enjoy using these lip colours is because they are long lasting, and when my day is busy, its great to know this product lasts without touch ups. And even when it starts to fade, I have found that the LA splash fades evenly, whereas the darker colours have a stain effect, which mean they fade quite graciously, as long as I even out the glossy parts on the outer areas of my lips..

So, yes I find this product moisturizing but not sticky. It’s not what I would consider a proper stain, but does has some stain qualities. Either way I do enjoy using this product. I probably won’t be adding any more to my collection at this stage, but will enjoying using the ones I have.

Lisa Eldridge used this in a tutorial and I loved the look of it so sought it out from splashstore. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing as I had to pick a shade sight unseen and settled on the shade Barcelona Nights after seeing swatches online. This looks completely different on me at least than on the swatches I saw. I anticipated a quite natural rosy pink. I got a super bright magenta, not natural at all- quite in your face actually. This has a smooth slightly oily but not tacky texture. The thing I like about this product is that when first applied it is super glossy but you can pat that gloss down and you are left with a flush of colour (and are also less inclined to smush it all over your face). This has become the only way I can wear this lipstain. I apply a coat let it set a bit, blot it down, add another coat and blot it again. This gives me a pink rosy stained lip which is still quite bold but at the same time quite wearable. I would like to try other shades but am a bit wary being that this shade turned out so different from what I expected. At the right price instore I may be more inclined to purchase another shade.

I don't know if I got a dud but I purchased two shades of this and I hated it. I have heard so much good reviews on blogs and Youtube when this came out so I was so excited.

However, when I got home and applied this, it was one of the worst lip products I've tried. It didn't apply evenly and it wouldn't even stick to my lips.

I've have tried to use it multiple times to give it a chance but it failed on my every time until I finally gave up and gave both away. It applied so patchy and the more I layered on, the worse it looked. It was also sticky which I disliked too.

I really wanted to like it but it didn't agree with me. I love the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks and I'd rather spend my money on them than this.

I bought 2 of these when they were launched and was so excited because the colours lookes awesome. I applied it to my lips and it was actually hard work to get it even and to get any depth of colour. There was a lot of gloss which was ok, but it was a bit sticky,and the colour was a real dissapointment. I do like the shape of it, being square and having a sponge applicator which was easy to use. Unfortunately this is not enouh to make me want to use it again. I was really sad because I have a lot of Revlon products and I have a lot of success with most of them.

I had really high hopes for the Revlon moisture stain as I love other Revlon lip products like the colorburst matte balms! However I found this to be a bit of a miss even though I will still continue to use it. I love the color!! I don't have any other lip product with this color. It's a pink/peach kind of nude with gold shimmers through it (which is probably what gives it the peach color.) Although the color is gorgeous I can't say that the formula is that great. It's quite a thick tacky consistency. I have worn it out at night a few times and it definitely kept my lips moisturized and the color lasted a decent amount of time for me. But when I apply it, it comes out quite thick and chunky on my lips so I need to blend it in with my finger and if you try to build the color up it just becomes a thick tacky mess on your lips, so you really need to blend it. The pigmentation is pretty good especially for quite a nude color, I just wish the formula was a bit easier to work with when applying.

The colour i used was a vibrant Pinkish Red.

I found it to stain well and the colour is very pretty.

Applied easily and not messy like some lipstains tend to - Lasted me well through out the work day.

By 5pm it was a subtle tint to my lips but that is through eating lunch with no reapplication.

Would reccomend again.

The shade that I got this lip stain (050 Posh London), is a peach tone with a slight gold shimmer. It’s really more like a gloss than a stain, I think because it’s a light shade that it doesn’t seem to really have a stain effect. Also with this particular shade (since it’s light), it doesn’t seem to last well, I find that it’s pretty much gone off my lips completely after an hour or two.

This is a very moisturizing lip product, and the color is quite vibrant when first applied. It comes with a doe-foot applicator, applies smoothly enough and isn’t too tacky- maybe just a tiny bit, and is unscented, unflavored.

It transfers and soaks into the lips a lot, so if i’m wearing this gloss/’stain’ all day, I will generally end up reapplying 4-5 times throughout the day. Though as is generally the case with glosses, right?

Overall I think this is a very good lip gloss, and i’d grab another at the right price. The full RRP quoted here is a bit steep for a lip gloss in my opinion, however good it may be.

I love anything to do with colouring my lips and Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stain is one of my most favorite. I got myself a rough colour and the colour looks absolutely beautiful on my lips. It is not just the colour that makes me love this product, but the smooth feel when I apply. The name says it all, it is waterproof and the colour does stay for a long time.
