Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil Review

One of my friends had this product which I had never seen before, and needed to check out asap. I swatched all the colours that appealed to me at a local pharmacy, and settled on "630 Nude Perfection".

As someone with an olive skin tone, it can be troublesome trying to find any kind of nude lippy that doesn't wash me out, but this colour seriously IS perfection! This is a tad dramatic, but I very nearly cried out of pure joy after discovering this shade. It has taken me so long to find a nude lipstick/liner that I can confidently use. I love it so much. I think it's like a pink-based brown?

The formula is pigmented enough to be used solely on its own or as a lipstick. It glides on creamy, and does dry to a semi-matte finish. My lips look so smooth and there's no traces of feathering or cracks or bleeding. However, it does transfer slightly and you may need to retouch after any heavy eating or drinking. I also hope that they make the pencil length longer because it's deceptively small once you open the cap.

Regardless of the given downsides, I highly recommend this range!

I love Love LOVE these lip pencils! I was a little bit skeptical about the consistency of the product being in a pencil, but I was super impressed!

I loooove the nude pencil - Nude Perfection is no joke. It applies very smoothly to your lips, and I find having the pencil tip makes it super easy for me to shape my cupid's bow (which is practically non-existent, I have to draw it in.)

These wear reasonably well considering the price, I pair them with the Rimmel lip liners. I find I only need to re-apply after eating. Nice!

I would definitely recommend these to a friend, in fact - I need to go out and buy every single colour!

Snapped a few of these up during a recent Farmers promotion on Maybelline of buy 3 for the price of 2, but my Farmers only had the 4 I purchased at the time.

These short, chunky crayon type pencils has a soft, velvet based "lead" colour to them that is cased in word and plastic black wrapping, with the colour of pencil stamped on the bottom. They also come with a clear acrylic lid that firmly sits onto of the pointed end. I found that the colour pay off with every one I own is pretty intense, but allows you to build the colour up further so you can have a subtle or drama impact look. The formula is creamy to apply, and doesn't flake, bleed or feather into your lips. Setting to an almost matte finish means it hugs your lips for a longer lasting pout. I enjoy using these as lip prime colours, then placing another lipstick or gloss over top for a longer lasting wear look. I would take care when you go to sharpen them though as the formula is creamy and could be a bother to sharpen so pop them into the freezer for a few minutes to ensure that the colour is solid will aid this task.

Had this for a while now and keep forgetting to review this even though I've been using it quite regularly. I heard so many raves about it so I bought it when Farmer had a gwp on Maybelline products. I have the beautiful, classic red shade called Red Essential. I love the design of a lip pencil since it gives all the color and pigmentation of a lipstick plus the extra control. The only thing I don't like about packaging is how when I try to sharpen it, it seems to be quite wasteful. And with a short wee pencil like that I'm already about half way through. I've been loving statement red lately so this has been a staple in my makeup bag. Application is super smooth and looks just as creamy as it feels. It doesn't feel drying at all and when I apply it pretty thick, there's not feather kind of look where the lip color sinks into the wrinkles in your lips making you lips look super dry and gross (anyone? Please tell me it's not just me). There's none of that with this, it looks so smooth and velvety. It's not very great at staying on my lips throughout the day. I definitely have to take it off and reapply it after eating and leaves the typical lip print on cups and mugs (but at least I can instantly tell which glass is mine hehe). Also I've the dreadful habit of licking my lips every now and then before I talk so I end up licking quite a fair bit off. Lets hope it's not too poisonous! Overall a wonderful lip pencil that looks stunning and feels soft on my lips. Definitely worth the buy! I've now put In with Coral in my wishlist since I was so impressed with this.

I have this lip pencil in 'Nude Perfect', and it it just amazing. I noticed my local Pak N Save started selling Maybelline, and these were down to $6.99 - so it was practically law that I tried it! I couldn't even wait to get home, I tried it on right there in the car! It has quickly become my favourite brown toned nude. It is super easy to apply - it really does glide on the lips. I line my lips first with this, then I fill them in, to ensure a nice even coverage with a sharp edge. There was no tugging, no pulling - nothing. The have reasonable wearability - it can take the odd drink - but I would recommend touching up after eating and drinking - Luckily it's so small that it's convenient to take anywhere! The pigmentation is phenominal - I only needed one coat! I don't find this drying in the slightest - but I am very much a matte lipstick girl - Velour lips are my jam and I don't find those drying either - so I can't really say too much about that. All in all this is an absolutely fantastic product - The affordability, the pigmenation and the lasting power makes this an absolute must have in your collection, I urge you to try one today!

The pigmentation of these pencils is intense! I bought it in "in with coral". It applies so evenly and smoothly to the lips. I like to line them first with the pencil and then fill in the rest to get a defined line. The pencil has incredible staying power without drying out as much as I thought it would. Although they do dry a little I found it helps a lot to scrub and moisturise my lips first to reduce drying out. I now want these pencils in every shade the pigmentation is just so good!

I tried this in conjuction with the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick. Now the two colours I recieved were not a match but I tried them seperately and together to get a feel for how each product worked.

The Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil was superior out of the two. It's colour was stronger and did not smudge so easily. The pigmentation was good and the finished look was strong. The Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil also had decent longevity on the lips and made the lipstick last longer as well.

The Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil was creamy to apply and came out as a solid colour. This meant a bit of transfer did happen but it fortunately didn't mess up the look.

It terms of its packaging and presentation it is essentially a big pencil with a softer tip than eye pencils. This means that it is quite big for a lip liner but too small to be a lipstick which makes it an interesting product in terms of how you decide to use it.

I recently purchased In With Coral and wow, the colour is amazing! It's so vibrant and bright. Quite a bit brighter than I would normally wear, but I am getting used to it. These lip pencils are super pigmented, and I found that I only needed one coat.

My lips tend to be on the dry side and the product clung to the drier patches - definitely pays to put on lip balm before hand.

I have 5 of these beauties and I love every single one. (Thank you Chelsea xxx). I have the shades fuchsia desire, in with coral, fab orange,  red essential and berry much. It's hard to pick just 1 favourite so I've narrowed it down to 3. The ones I reach for the most are fab orange, red essential and berry much. These colours are absolutely beautiful!!

They are very creamy and extremely pigmented. You only need to do one application and you're good to go. They do apply evenly but I find that you get the best results by prepping your lips for application. So exfoliate your lips and apply a small amount of lip balm and you'll be left with a flawless finish.

They do tend to smudge so just be weary when your hand is near your mouth because your lip colour will smudge/transfer. But other than that, these lip pencils are amazing. The quality is amazing given then price so I highly recommend these if you want beautifully coloured lips without having to sell your soul.

When I saw that this product was launched I thought it was just a lipstick stuck inside a pencil. After seeing the price at New World I thought I may as well buy it. I picked up the shade 'Pink So Chic' which in my eyes would be described as more of an electric purple colour.

The lip pencil glides on very velvety as promised and with fully opaque coverage, it makes for a nice bold lip. It leaves a satin finish which later goes down to semi-matte on my lips and still moisturizes my lips throughout the day. The stay power is also pretty good, it does transfer a bit but I've never really tried any lipstick that had no transfer.

Will definitely be trying more of this range! 'In With Coral' is very tempting!
