Calm -Essential Corrective Gel

Consistency is a thin cream not a gel, green in colour, fragrance is nice not strong,i found one push of the applicator and it did my whole face and neck. Quite pricey as it is only 30mls but it did work and helped with my redness, made my skin feel less tight. I do not like clarins packaging too busy and hard to find the english directions. Yes i would recommend it if you can afford it.

Tips: Do not need to use a lot, a little goes a long way

Not 'anti-red', but lovely

Like the Calm Essentiel Emulsion, this comes in a handy tube format with a pump dispenser and a firm-click lid, so it's portable, hygienic and very easy to dispense the amount you want. Love it. (Plus it's pretty but simple packaging in white and dusky pink.)

The gel itself has a nice, light-creamy texture (lighter than the emulsion) and it melts easily into your skin.

The floral scent is pleasant enough but very strong, which worried me a little (my skin's super-sensitive). It turned out to be fine in terms of my sensitivity, but it was stronger, more floral, and longer-lasting (lingering for hours) than I would personally like. Not a deal-breaker though.

As for performance... My skin was VERY tight, reactive and uncomfortable before the trial (it gets like that most winters), and my usual gentle moisturisers were stinging on application. The first time I applied the gel, there was a very slight stinging feeling, which disappeared quickly (so that was actually already an improvement), but after that, every time I used it my skin felt better and better. On its own it was definitely calming and soothing. However, it wasn't hydrating enough, so after letting it sink in, I applied the Calm Essentiel Emulsion. This combo was great, and within a week it had broken me out of my over-sensitised, reactive cycle completely. In my experience, that's really quick for such unhappy skin.

It's pricey for a 30 ml tube, but a half-pump is enough for your whole face, so it'd last for a good few months.

It's an 'anti-redness' treatment and pigmented green, but I it didn't make much visible difference on me, and it's not moisturising enough for my dry skin. It has the same calming, soothing ingredients as the Emulsion to normalise and re-set upset skin, so I do like it, but I wouldn't buy it. I'd skip that step and go straight for the more hydrating Emulsion every time (which I LOVE). If you have traumatised skin that's oily or normal though, I imagine it would be perfect.

Tips: For really distressed skin, I'd apply this to clean skin (skip serums and everything else) to let the soothing oils and botanicals work directly to re-balance your protective layers. And add some Calm Essentiel Emulsion on top, or a drop or two of the Calm Essentiel Oil, if you need more hydration.

Pretty good so far..............

So firstly the packaging for this is fairly plain, white cardboard box with no fancy pictures etc on it. Clearly says what the product is on the box in red print.

I have patches of redness and burn scarring around my chin which is quite red unless covered with makeup. I used to use a green veil underneath my foundation years ago but haven't for a while. This works the same as it is green and works to mask or correct redness. I have used this every morning prior to moisturising and before applying my makeup (just under 2 weeks). To be totally honest I don't think it has made a huge difference redness wise, however I will continue to use it as it does say it can improve with daily use.

I must say that it smells really nice and goes on easily as the small tube has a pump which makes it easy to use and take with you if needed. I found that I needed to hold the tube upright to get it to pump out properly.

It did sooth my skin, as after cleansing and first thing in the morning my skin is usually quite tight and dry so this was lovely to put on.

I will continue to use this gel as I think that it will continue to work it's magic after more time :) Price wise, it's a bit on the high side for my budget, but Clarins is on the higher side and really is a good product.

Tips: Other than giving it a wee shake before pumping, not really!!

Clarins Calm-Essentiel Redness Corrective Gel

The packaging is sleek and I love the feel, however it gets pretty close to toppling over quite regularly since the pump is a lot smaller than the bottle. I like that it arrived with a clear packaging over the top of the lid to show it was a fresh new bottle! It would be nice if more instructions were included on the product (such as what order to use the products from the range in, or what to apply it before/after products not included in the range e.g. standard moisturiers/oils).

The pump applicator was a real let down, and unfortunately puts me off ever buying the product in the future. It took a long time for me to get any product out the first time I used it, and over the two weeks that I trialled the product there were days where I spent more time pumping the bottle to get product out than I did applying it to my skin! Please Clarins, consider changing the bottle design!

The product itself is really nice - a pale green which I didn't expect (but which makes sense since it's a calming product). The scent was floral and a little artificial, but not overwhelming. It is described as a redness corrective gel however it felt more like applying a silicone primer - it was slightly cooling to apply which was nice. I used about two pumps each time - a little goes a long way so I think the 30ml bottle is reasonable.

I didn't noticeably see my skin as being any less red immediately, however it felt nice to apply and I really liked applying it in the morning before a moisturiser. Sometimes in the morning my skin feels dry after moisturiser only, but I don't want to apply an oil before I apply makeup. This product combined with a moisturiser type product meant that my skin didn't feel dry, itchy or tight in the morning which was ideal.

I would definitely consider buying this again if the pump was changed to a lid. It gives me that boost in the morning that is worth the price tag, especially as I haven't come across a similar efficient product from a different range.

Tips: Tip: Apply on clean skin before moisturiser in the morning.

Packaging letting the product down

I really like the idea of this product - a redness-correcting gel that calms redness while disguising it. I did notice a difference in my skin while wearing it - I had no inclination to do my usual fake tan or BB cream because my skin looked more even and less flushed.

However there were a couple of downsides to this product. The first is the packaging. This product is in a tube with a pump dispenser on top. Usually a pump dispenser has a wee tube to the bottom of the bottle to bring the product up. Obviously that's not going to work with a tube that is shaped like a toothpaste tube. This meant that when it took ages pumping before product could come out, I wasn't sure how to fix it. Normally I know where to shake the product to/apply pressure/etc. However, after a while the product started coming out. Next time I went to use it... I'm back at square one! After lots of futile pumping I tried squeezing the tube gently and that got it going and I haven't had problems since. However, if I had paid the RRP for this product I would have been very unhappy about having to battle the tube like this! Assumably Clarins have used this design for a good reason, but a little advice would be very helpful!

My last issue was again around the lack of information provided. I assumed this was a makeup product and was using it after the emulsion. Halfway through the trial Beauty Review contacted me with information - apparently I was supposed to do this first and finish with the emulsion. Information for how to use the product should really be provided on the box, but Clarins is heavy on languages, light on details!

This is a good product, but make sure you get some information from the store before you start using it, because the information isn't on the box.

Tips: Use this before your moisturiser.

Seeing Red

Clarins Calm-Essentiel Redness Corrective Gel sounded like something I needed on my life for those days where my skin looked more flushed than flawless and a Rudolph-like nose became a whole new facial feature.

The first time I used it, I scrutinized my face as the green gel melted clear into my skin. If I squinted, I thought I saw a difference.

So of course I used it again, and again and again. There is a difference, but on my skin it is only faintly detectable.

It does however feel lovely at sits well with make up, so I've used it instead in place of a primer.

Its good

I enjoyed using this product, but I probably wouldn't purchase again until summer. I imagine this would be an awesome product to apply after a long day in the sun as it immediately soothes dry and tight skin, but my skin rarely feels very very dry and tight nor do I get a whole lot of redness, so this product was a little redundant for me. Overall, a nice product that goes on smoothly and feels great, and I will be saving the remainder for summer!

Doesn't wow me

I was super stoked to get on this trial....thanks BR! A little bit about my skin, it can be very fussy! I have to be careful what I use as some products set my skin on fire and I often get a horrible irritation. I have redness on my chin and cheeks and get occasional breakouts.

The Clarins Calm-Essentiel redness corrective gel comes in a 30ml tube with a pump. I have been using this in the morning after cleansing but I only put it on my red cheeks and chin. A little bit definitely goes a long way, it has a lovely faint smell and had a green tinge which obviously counteracts the redness.

It sinks into my skin well and I get no tingling or irritation at all. I don't feel like it makes a really dramatic difference to my redness but it does reduce it. Maybe after using it for a longer period of time I may get more results.

For me it is a step that I could easily miss out simply because it doesn't wow me. I will however continue to use the remainder of the tube but it is not something I would go out and purchase.

Red-less?

I have not used a product to reduce redness in the past and was openminded for the few spots where I take issue. The product is dispensed through a pump which helps to ensure only a small amount of product is used - and I was surprised to know that the 'gel' was more of a green based cream. After multiple applications I am still unsure whether the kind of redness I have issues with can be treated by a gel or whether the product just wasn't as effective as it promised to be. I think I'd still refer this to friends that have issues with redness and are more severe than me, but the price point might be a hinderance to this.

A green cream

The first things you notice about the Redness Corrective Gel is that it is green (like many anti-redness products), and that it is actually a cream. I have some red patches on my cheeks and some other places on my face, so was interested to see how this cream would affect this issue. After just over a week I can't say there is much change in skin tone- perhaps a slight one? It did absorb fairly easily into the skin and I normally mixed it with the emulsion to ensure even coverage. My skin overall is slightly softer and mayybeee less tight. I cannot say though that I felt an instant feeling of well-being. I used 1-2 pumps each morning. At approximately $64 for the 30ml tube Clarins is on the upper end of pricing.

Tips: Try to get a sample first before committing to buying the full sized product.
