What do you use under your foundation?

No two ladies are the same when it comes to makeup.  Products that are perfect for you don't always work on a friend and sometimes you'll try a much raved about product only to be left underwhelmed.  Then there's the seemingly endless number of ways to apply your makeup and infinite combinations in which to use your products.

Since the whole 'prepping your skin' revolution took off it became clear that there were several different techniques for creating the perfect canvas for foundation. The most common options are;

  • Primer - it's a crime not to prime!  Primer lovers like the smooth and even canvas created by skin primers, that are created to create the perfect surface for foundation to adhere to.
  • BB Cream - for some they offer the perfect level of coverage; for others, BB Creams create the base for foundation.
  • Moisturiser - lots of people do nothing except moisturise before applying foundation.  It can help prevent flaking.
  • Blur Cream - designed to be used solo or under foundation, blur creams give an airbrush effect, blurring fine lines and blemishes.
  • Powder - powder? Under foundation?  Yes some ladies prefer to use powder first and then apply their foundation!

So what do you use under your foundation?  Are you a primer convert or do you use something else?  Why do you prefer your go-to method over other options and could you be swayed to change?

I use a primer when I have a big day or am going out somewhere that I want to have immaculate makeup for, day to day I use BB cream and layer on top of that :)

I use my serum to prime then moisturise and apply my mineral foundation powder. They work well together and keep my make up looking fresh all day.

I usually use a moisturiser or a bb Creme as a primer. I have been told an anti chaffing Creme works just as good for a base for makeup if or when I decide to try it I will definantly ask the BR team to add it to be reviewed

When I do my makeup it's during the day so I need sunscreen, so I have my Apple a Day cream underneath my foundation. I have gotten a sample of a primer before from Clinique and used that once when I was going out to dinner so didn't need sunscreen. I definitely noticed my foundation stayed on longer and looked so much smoother but then again dinner was only a few hours as compared to a full day.

Primer or BB creams

It's a crime not to prime! See, I do listen ;) I finished my favourite Revlon primer today, so I'll be using my L'Oreal blur cream until it runs out. I also consider that a primer as it has a similar texture/feel to my Revlon one - and I really love the finish it gives my foundation.

I tried some garnier 5 second perfect blur samples and I really liked them so I've been using that. My layers currently go moisturiser, sunscreen, another sunscreen (because I get burnt super easily), 5 second blur, liquid foundation, powder :) Haha so many layers I could be an onion

I always use a primer these days, its a skincare must for me now.

I've recently started using a primer and what a difference! My foundation lasts longer and stays looking 'fresh' all day. I've just started using it under my BB cream (if I'm not using foundation) to see how that it goes and I'm just as happy with the result. Absolutely sold on it!

I used a primer then went to a bb cream under my foundation and now back to a primer, which I use most days usually only in the area I am noticing fine lines!! Other days I like to put it all over my face, I defiantly find it helps my foundation last a lot longer :)

I have used ALMAY tinted makeup base when I don't want to use a foundation just to get a even look and that worked well. I have not use a primmer and would love to get my hands on some to try. I have always just cleaned my skin in the morning and used moisturier before foundation. (:

I use my everyday moisturiser. I've never found a primer that works for me, they all leave my makeup sliding off after an hour and make it really difficult to blend my foundation. So I'm a "nothing" girl really! =)

I moisturise, bb cream and then foundation :-)

I am a BB cream girl, ever since the Garnier BB cream trial i am obsessed with it and have replaced all my other products

I agree, it makes such a difference for me too when I use primer - my makeup lasts so much longer
