Much like Beauty Review's resident Head Pixie, BR Kellie, I'm a big fan of this time of the year. Unlike her, it's not so much the spring cleaning that gets me hyped but the changing out and up of my look. From rehashing my skincare routine through to updating my makeup, I love rifling through my makeup goodies and pulling out new colours and textures, and stashing away heavier creams and serums in favour of products that are on the lighter side.
So, how you can you update your stash and bounce into spring with a fresh new look? Read on...
Skincare
After hiding under layers of clothing for months on end, now's the time to get out the body exfoliants and lush moisturisers and start treating your skin so that when you get your limbs out they're smooth and silky, not scaly and lizard-like.
As for your face... If your skin becomes more oily, or even simply less dry, this is the time to lighten up, swapping out thick serums and moisturisers for something less heavy. If your skin does tend to oiliness in the warmer months, you might also want to change out your hydrating cleanser for an oil-controlling gel cleanser. Oh, and if you've been skipping the SPF, now's the time to reintroduce it and get into the habit of applying it daily before heading outside.
Face
It's time to get your glow on! That doesn't mean sparkling and glittering like a disco ball, but embracing that juicy, hydrated look! Toss aside matte everything and make the move to products that will leave you looking like you've spent a week at a health retreat on a tropical island. Swap out the heavy foundation for a serum foundation or a BB cream. Try cream or liquid blush, highlighter and bronzer instead of their powdery cousins. If you're priming or setting your makeup, skip anything mattifying and use a hydrating version instead.
Lips
Much like your face base, less is more when it comes to your lips. Skip the liquid matte lip and go for a lush, wet-look gloss. Don't like the feeling of gloss? A tinted lip balm will nourish your lips while giving it a beautiful hint of colour. As for the colour? Pink's always gorgeous, but a coral or even orange shade will lift your look while embracing the joyful feel of the spring season!
Nails
Chatting to a nail technician the other day, I asked her what the most popular colour had been during winter, and it came as no surprise when she said the darker colours, such as burgundy, had been most requested. Now with the days becoming brighter it's time to go lighter. Think sky blues, sea greens, pastel shades, as well as pretty pinks. You could go more vibrant still, with tangerines and sunshine yellows, but it's nice to leave a little something for the super hot months, don't you think?
Hair
If you've always wanted to embrace the sun-kissed hair look, this is the time to give it a go! Whether you try the gentle diffused highlighter look, or go for something a little more chunky, framing your face with highlights will add dimension to your face while brightening your complexion and lifting your look!
So, my beauties, do you update your skincare and cosmetics come spring? What do you swap out? Or do you keep your look and routine consistent throughout the year? Chat below!
