What did we do before dry shampoo? Seriously?! It's like a magical powder that transforms your hair from a greasy mess to fresh and manageable with just a sprinkle or spray, and a rub.
Before I discovered dry shampoo I was stuck in the trap of washing my hair daily - I now wash it once a week, and end up reaching for my dry shampoo almost daily. I've tried a lorra lorra dry shampoos (curse of the job...) and I definitely prefer a spray rather than loose powder product. I'm clumsy and well, powder anything has a high chance of ending in disaster - loose powder over my head? Yeah, might as well just dunk my head in a vat of flour.
My favourite brand is Batiste - no surprises there, it's New Zealand's best selling dry shampoo by far, but what I love about Batiste are the scents. My current fave is Tropical, so coconutty and nommy. And...flamingos!
But I don't just use my dry shampoo to refresh my do or instead of washing my hair...no, no, no. I got tricks. Here I give you my ultimate dry shampoo tips and life hacks!
1. Spray dry shampoo into your hair before you go to bed. I find Batiste amazing for the overnighter! The formulation absorbs the oil in your hair overnight and you awake with fresh hair plus extra body and volume .
2. Use a bristle brush to get more out of your dry shampoo. Don't fall into the trap of spraying shampoo all over your hair, just use it on the roots and use your bristle brush to distribute it further!
3. Use dry shampoo instead of hairspray when you’re after a more subtle backcomb. The other bonus is that it’s super easy to brush through the next day.
4. Let it sit. If your hair is really greasy, let the dry shampoo sit on your roots for 5-10 minutes before massaging in - it'll soak up more oil!
5. Prevent your fringe from sticking to your forehead. No one likes a shiny forehead but an even worse look is when your fringe gets oily and sticks to your skin. Sexy, I know. To rectify this problem spray some dry shampoo to the underneath of your fringe and you won’t have to worry.
6. Use dry shampoo to prevent bobby pins sliding. Before you use them to secure your hair in place, spray a little dry shampoo to your clips - it'll be much less sticky than using hairspray, but grippy enough to keep your 'do in place!
7. Go for the spray, not the sprinkle. You can buy dry shampoo as a loose powder in a pot or as a powdery spray. In my experience you have more chance of using too much when using the powder in the pot, and the risk of spillages is real. For on-the-go refreshing, go for the spray version. Every time.
So there we go, my seven tips for dry shampoo. Do you have any to share? And what's your favourite product? Are you a Batiste girl like me? What scent should I try next?!
Love using it as a "boof" product for that sultry out of bed look on short hair girls! so easy to use!!
