How Long Have You Had Your Hairbrush?

I was reading an article the other day, recommending we change our hairbrushes every SIX MONTHS.  This seemed a bit extreme to me, but I do agree its important to keep our brushes in tip-top condition lest we risk them damaging our hair.

You see, built up debris of styling products and damp hair can lead to bacteria growth, and melted bristles from heat styling can actually snag the hair as we brush.  At the bare minimum we should be removing excess hair from our brushes after every use.  For the Gold Star of Care, we should be washing our brushes weekly.  Using baking soda and vinegar is an easy way to remove product build up and scalp flakes, helping to keep our brushes in better condition for longer.

We're putting the latest hair brush release from Mita to the test.  The last three Mita detangling brushes are all Top Rated by you, the people of New Zealand, so we're super excited to get our hands on this colourful beauty!

The Mita™ GEMTIP Detangling Brush is a unique 3D Flexi-Control Brush with multi-nylon bristles & gem tips.

Each bristle is physically formed into a smooth round sphere, like a delicate gem, free of sharp edges. The Mita GEMTIP detangling brush is super flexible with long & short thin bristles to remove tangles effortlessly and painlessly, reducing hair breakage.

The two-length bristles work perfectly to detangle and massage the hair whilst massaging the scalp and gently cleaning away dandruff and dirt from the scalp.

As well as for use on dry hair, the GEMPTIP shines when used in the shower.  It helps to spread shampoo and conditioner evenly along the hair and helps rinse them away more quickly without snagging or pulling on wet hair.

This brush looks great! I have been using a tangle teezer brush for the past few years and it has been working well, but I do think it is time for a replacement. The bristles of this brush look interesting and I would be keen to try it out. I really like that it can be used on wet and dry hair. Thank you for the tips about brush care, I did not know brushes need to be replaced every 6 months. :)

I'm ashamed to say it's been years since I've replaced my brush. I haven't found the need to, but reading this article makes me think twice. I do wash it and clean it regularly. But it's still good. If this one does what it says I'd be keen to change brushes!

Would love to give this a go...love the fact that it can be used for wet AND dry hair. Seems perfect. Also, love the fact that the bristles are rainbow coloured!

Hmm so I didnt actually know you should replace your hairbrush after 6 months! I brush my hair daily dry, and also (altho i know you shouldnt) I brush my hair when its wet. So to hear you can also use this in the shower is fantastic! Would love to give it a go.

I have to admit that I do not look after my hairbrush particularly well. This one sounds amazing and looks much easier to clean compared to my boar bristle one.

My two girls and I share one brush between us as we can’t seem to find one that we love. My 12 year old daughter with thick hair constantly has matted hair underneath and would love to try this brush. Fingers crossed no more tears and Tantrums over knots.

This hairbrush sounds incredible! I have my current hairbrush for around 10 months. I love to try it!

I've had my hair brush for years but I do wash it. I like that this one does a massage.

I share my hairbrush with my husband and it’s about 10 years old!! It is minus bristles and tips of bristles. Generally I clean the hair from it when I notice a build up of it. I would love to try this hairbrush for obvious reasons and the fact it can be used on wet hair is an added bonus. I also have never used a detangling brush before but I have long hair so this sounds a great feature also :)

I has mine more than 2 years!

Omg I have had my detangler brush for like 4 years!!

Love the colours very pretty. If this is similar to the other detangler they put out it will be good. Yes please I would love to try this and on my daughter's long thick hair too :-)

I would love to try! I had another mita detangling brush and it was amaaaazing! But I lost it camping in the summer and have just been using my old one.

This sounds amazing and exactly what my daughter & I need, we both have thick long hair & both cry trying to get any brush or comb through our hair, this sounds like it might dry up those tears. Our current hair brushes are about 4 years old but I regularly clean them but we seriously need to replace so this would be a great opportunity to try before we buy.

I have a lot of different hairbrushes..hard to find the right one...and I don't throw them out...my bad!! My hair is long and damaged right now and I do find my brushes (because they are soo old) are snagging on my hair big time, so thanks so much for the heads up re washing them often and also disposing of them when they no longer "work". This brush sounds really worth using, so I would love to trial and feed back. :)

I tend to look after my brushes clearing the hair between each use and my girl often breaks them and it can be tricky to find a good one.
